Personally if it was possible, I would take features from both camera to make one great one. I liked the overall quality of the Nikon over the Canon. The Canon somewhat washed everything out with the orange tint. I too, didn't like how the Nikon color focus changed every time you put something in front of it. How ever way you decided to go, you can't go wrong with the video hd quality.

The change in color is called white balancing and it looks like both cameras auto white balance to find the natural color it should record in...So basically when you hold something up really close to the camera it adjusts the way it preceives color based on that thing (the color white gives best results)... The canon although it takes longer to focus finds the natural light better. So the canon has my vote.

We have the nikon 6200, $118.00 from office depot the day after black Friday. I have until Jan6 to return I agree the still pics can suck. u have to be aware of lighting, if not pics will be blurr..its best to take in the dark/low light to get the best clarity. Honestly it 2much, I just want to point in click. My current camera is a polaroid its perfect but doesnt have HD. I may just sit back & wait unti I find polarid hd on sale (4 me whats the rush- I need 2stack my pennies&get the best deal).

Id say the second camera because the focus is clearer but then again you said you forgot to turn on auto focus on the first one so that part is still to be decided unless you make another vid and turn on auto focus. The sound quality is better on the first one.

Well, to @nacora1trini when videos are taking in the bathroom they will always have that yellow tint because most bathrooms have yellow lighting... The only thing I know with white lighting would be the outdoors or letting the sunshine in your windows... but on another note @mrsdivalike I think the cannon is better suited for the job. You didn't ask for sound quality, you said better picture quality and I think the cannon gets the job done!! :)

nikon has better sound, cannon recovered faster from the color change but i noticed that when people record in the bathroom depending on if the door is open or not it gives that yellow tint... see if you can try another camera if posible

Are there any good regular camcorders that you can get for the same price? I agree about the sound being better on the first, but the picture better on the second. Still, if there's one in this price range, I'd try to find a camcorder that is made for video rather than a point and shoot camera.

I don't know much about cameras but here's what I know, you have to play around with it. I have the canon powershot elph 310 as well and that camera is a beast! Play around with the ISO settings and white balance to get the best out of it. If you're using artificial lights change the white balance to auto or fluorescent, also if you're in a bright lighted area, lower your ISO setting so I won't look washed out.

wow once i clicked the 1080 it showed up so much clearer i also started the video back to the beginning they are both very clear when watching them in HD but the Nikon does get dark at times ok wow the Canon is alot clearer the focusing issue doesnt bother me i think the clearness and sharpness of the camer is what is important even the best cameras have to focus my dad is photography so i can glady ask him what is a great camera for videos if you would like but the canon def is better

I like the Canon better. The lighting kept changing on the Nikon even while you were just talking. However, the sound is clearer on the Nikon.
