  • I'm so stoked for Leonard Cohen's new album "Old Ideas" on 1/31 ...His new single "The Darkness" is great!!

  • Jeff Buckley rip you will never be replaced -_-

  • Curse you, Watchmen, you have ruined this song...forever!

  • i dont know who myzerbear is.

  • all is all

  • WTF about the top comment? C' mon!

  • @pragmaticalpaula123 Rest In Peace? What?

  • @pragmaticalpaula123 Thank you for a wonderful post. Rest in peace, pragmaticalpaula123.

  • Only a couple more days until the new album "Old Ideas" is released!!! Who else is excited?!

  • God his voice has so much soul in it. Something Jeff Buckley can't match

  • Check out my cover of this song ;)

  • I first heard K.D.Lang's version of this song preformed at the closure of the winter olympics and loved it. But this version adds so much more to the lyrics.

    Both versions hold my admiration.

  • every tym i listen to this music i fall in love with this guy ... does it means i am become a homo?

  • @aRaSh710000 yes

  • DEXTER SEASON 6 PROMO <3

  • I don't like the lyric order in this...

  • @Red123Mint I bet thats because of Watchmen.

  • @Red123Mint you need therapy..

  • @Red123Mint Because of watchmen lol? :)

  • @Red123Mint Spare us your pathology

  • People need to remember that Jeff Buckley's cover is of John Cale's version, not any of Leonard Cohen's incarnations. Cale and Buckley use a different combination of verses than the various Cohen takes I've heard, and therefore it gets a quite different meaning, and isn't that part of what makes this song great- that it stretches so wide and fits so many different moods?

  • Just awesome voice....

  • How you think? This song can be in church on wedding. Only chorus? In moment when we are going by church...

  • Leonard Cohen rocks. My parents were big fans when I was kid... Now 30 years later I have an awesome border collie who loves to sing so we named her Lenny after yours truly...

  • hi guys, id really appreciate if you checked out my cover of this song on my page and let me know what you think of it :) it would mean the world to me!

  • Whenever I hear Cohen sing this I always picture the flaming orgasm in Watchmen.

  • Leonard Cohen was a poet before he was a musician. He switched because he thought the money'd be better. It's completly acceptable to say that the various covers are better than the original, musically.

  • Leonard's the Daddy.

  • ah,my ears...are currently experiencing eargasm!

  • i'm stowned.. this made me depressed in a good way.. a feel good place of dark things in my life, but made me think of the lights between them, the happyness i had with people, around fire's, singing, love.... god, i love my live.. but i hate it so much to.

  • Yes, Cohen wrote the song .. the original score was a little different, but was still distinctly Cohen

  • Want to know how he wrote this song? It took him 2 years and 80 verses: h t t p : // notnicolajames . wordpress . com

  • @CthulhuIStruth i don't know his thoughts, but I know what it is to feel, sometimes i have feelings that other people have, not too often but sometimes it actually happens, i have an invisible ruler that i use to measure feeling

  • Who here is presumptuous enough to say they know Cohen's thoughts!?

  • I made a cover of this song and im 12 so I appreciate it if you would check out my videos.

  • See the live version... any way Cohen is an amazing songwriter!

  • wainwright rufus version is way more better -_- im not hating im just say O_O

  • @deytroney66quen You ARE hating, liar!

  • @MisterBigBlunts no im not lying O_O his sond good i gess but rufus is beter way more!

  • @deytroney66quen no way, you are out of your mind...wainright even changed a bunch of the lyrics and got away from the actual song...he butchered it

  • Why does this remind me of 'Of Mice And Men'?

  • jeff buckleys version is overated.... this version is just the best by far i think anyways

  • @stifler9098 i don't quite agree. jeff buckleys version is far more intimate. i think leonard cohan would agree.

  • Play this when your having sex, she'll do you the favor.

  • Buckley sings this song like a child. Leonard Cohen sings this song like it's meant to be sung, like a man.

  • @frsamour you have no soul

  • @frsamour buckley doesn't sing this song like a child. wtf are you talk about?

  • @frsamour Like a man who can't sing.

  • @frsamour yes sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

  • @frsamour It killed Buckley!?/

  • @frsamour I'n MY opinion only.

  • @frsamour

Cohen truly sings the song because he lived it...Buckley was very much influenced by people like Cohen and also sang it like he was feeling it. Without Cohen being the master...there wouldn't be any students like Buckley to take up that march, right???

  • beautiful.

  • Jeff bucklys cover blows this away

  • Awesome.

  • Did this guy made this song?

  • @800sarina Yep

  • @800sarina No this song was written by the lord back in the 420's

  • @800sarina Yes, this man is Leonard Cohen and he is a legend! God! Have you been living under a rock?!

  • @audrey60hepburn yes- even the rocks move when Cohen sings...

  • @800sarina he is songs owner and creater...other made cover.. Jeff Buckley made that song famous...but that is not his own song... sorry my poor english... original is Cohen...

  • @800sarina Yes, It's a Leonard Cohen original, and Jeff Buckley did a great version of it, re-introducing it to a new generation, and probably made it more popular than it was prior, but it's still a Leonard Cohen song first and foremost.

  • @800sarina he deed

  • @800sarina he sure did!!

  • @800sarina i dunno bro

  • @800sarina yes

  • @800sarina Yes, in December of 1984

  • @800sarina yes he did

  • @800sarina yes he made this song.

  • Comment removed

  • @800sarina I'm fairly sure he did. At any rate, sure is Order of Canada material eh?

  • @800sarina yes

  • @800sarina yes

  • This music is good even in 240p (Y)

  • lovely song

  • No peice is sung or written with more heart than the author. Hail to the heart and mind that takes a peice of life and makes it art.

  • @LuvnOldees i agree, he who writes and sings a song, is the one that live the song

  • Maravillosooooooo !!!!!

sin más que .....añadir, queda dicho.

  • Is it just me or does lc look like dustin hoffmann in that shot, kinda sounds like him too.... :)

  • @hamo1701 He does look a lot like Dustin Hoffmann in this pic. Peace

  • @B1N4RYGH0ST :) peace be with you too :)

  • My oh my, but some of you are either into deep shit or you don't like someone who thinks different !!

God-like kitchen chair chef equality gift of god to the world gone wrong ?

    It's a 7 minute pop song !!

If you're into art, make some, don't follow others !!

    Hallelujah indeed.

  • Can't beat the original . . .

  • This song isn't art or even music. It's a gift of god to the mankind and the world.

  • stick to writing, let bon jovi sing

  • You are obviously a fool! Learn yourself some music bitch! Seen "jovi" live he suck cocks 4 cash!

  • this is the fucking original, yes

  • ИЗ РОССИИ С ЛЮБОВЬЮ, ДОБРА, МИРА, СЧАСТЬЯ ВСЕМ НАМ !!!

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, this song is without ego. It's the music, the art... not the show. +1

  • fuck yeah this song rocks! :]

  • i saw him in Israel i pay 1000 NIS but evry cent was good joy, one of the best gig show i saw

  • So churchlike! I love this version

  • this man is a great artist, and a beautiful cover of a favourite song.

  • @natcord7

    Beautiful, but also the original.

  • @natcord7 .. check ur facts, man! This IS the original: written by LC 'isself!!! mebbe not the original recording (which USED TO BE on YouTube), but HIS .. nevertheless!

  • Använd presens och inte futurum.

  • I would comment on if I liked or disliked this version of this song but I can't. I keep passing out. >.>

  • Ok, Sarcasm's the wrong word - but I find this a more 'realistic' version. The mix of ordinary imagery - kitchen chair and godlike joy and how love can be base and ordinary, godlike and joyful, equally is mirrored in the music and vocal tone whereas Jeff's focuses on the God-like aspect and misses that coarse, base, rough and readyness good old Cohen brings to his words...

  • @deirdrelennon0 Both songs are beautiful, LC feels his music like you said, whereas Jeff Buckley sings with sweetness, and even with a kinda sadness, (Love is not a victory march, it's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah)... Rufus Wainwright has his way to sing too.. Everybody has his favourite version...

  • @deirdrelennon0 Exactly. We don't need the virgin sacrifices to appreciate the Parthenon, and imagining a god into this song is superfluous to the underlying beauty of the song and the singer

  • I like Leonard's version because it's more sarcastic. Is it just me but does Jeff Buckey's miss the biting sarcasm in this song? And I love Jeff's version; but it's a very clear and definite different interpretation of this song. And sometimes the biting meaning of the words have been glossed over for a more romantic feel.

  • ln so ...ma adesso non è più importante..

  • I'm sorry Leonard, I was young and dumb. Hope you can forgive me.

  • chiaro...

  • chiaro...

  • what is up with the DISLIKING with others who dislike? Let them vote as they feel for fucks sake.

  • Please all, lets not confuse the real thing with flattery, a cover is nice for both the originator as well as for the copy-cat (oh now dont get to defensive , your all professionals here, chop chop. Dig the cat who penned the first emotion, the initial tear , the first rip, and the first one to look away, eyes averted, downcast and realizations made of matters, and love(rs), now past.

I must admit to likeing the idea of Tim Buckley taking a shot at the song, maybe Van Ronk, but for this lot, later

  • this is the song and artist that brought me out of my dark times and into the wonderful world of music. the way he doesn't have to sing just for his emotions to pour from such short and respectable words. Gods bless such artists and keep them around for all times.

  • God brought me here - hallelujah

  • @sxcpaintball : my dog brought me here

  • HEY EVERYONE ! :)

We would like to ask you to please check out our version of this song ,

all the feedback would be very appreciated !

    Thank you and

    HAPPY NEW YEAR ! :)

  • One of the best singer who ever lived - Leonard Cohen !!!!

  • This song reminds me of Shrek. Great song!

  • @ibaneziceman2007

    WHAT ???

  • riaritchies cover is nice too :) you guys should check it out

  • It's not know to everyone as Shrek song, it's also in Watchmen.

  • I have heard & liked many covers of Hallelujah. But so often I just have to go back & listen to Leonards version. And for the ignorant, the man is a legend. He never sang a song he didn't write. So the emotions you hear in his songs are his emotions, his words.

There are few artists who have no equal in the world of music & Leonard is right up there in the top 10 in my opinion.

  • GOOD!!! But... Not as good as Jeff.

  • @Merritt1000million correct. Much better than buckley.

  • chills...nuff said...

  • 806 dislikes??? Damn, where are you guys from? LC never claimed to be a singer or a stylist. The man was a poet. An artist.

Of course, in this ridiculous age where a janitor is a sanitation engineer and a cook is a chef; real artists, real engineers, real chefs have to share the stage with pretenders because the zeitgeist demands we all be equal in all things. Equal before the law has morphed. Equal opportunity has morphed. The razor cuts at the top. Beware, you who aspire and achieve.

  • @1492tomato wisdom

  • @1492tomato You have said a word or two here that do you well, equal this n that, the blandness of it all is pervasive if not simply stupifying. Fair dues to those who understand the warning, to you who continue following the path your currently on, know this, it will not go any smoother or better or anything short of your own money and lots of that money to boot. Unless you adhere to the Animal Farm life-condition in which all is equal, but some are more equal than others ciao

  • @ashley86697 Pervasive and stupifying blandness... You have the heart of the matter. Damn well said, Ashley.

    Ciao yourself...

  • @1492tomato Sorry mate but you must be a bit dumb right? With all due respect to Leonard Cohen, people can have their opinion about things so you may want to google RESPECT....

  • @75Unit I find it interesting and ironic that while you preach to me about RESPECT you are calling me "a bit dumb." I know what I wrote, why I wrote it, disrespected no one, and didn't contradict myself in my own post, unlike yourself. And how does respecting Leonard Cohen have any bearing whatever on people having "their opinion about things?" I leave it to the readers to decide who's "a bit dumb." BTW, you may want to google "dumb," and use the word properly next time.

  • @1492tomato I agree. Look at Bob Dylan. Not everyone likes his voice, but everyone loves at least one of his songs. They may not realize he wrote it, but he is a phenomenal song writer. Some of the greatest artists sing his songs.

  • @robinbobbin75155 You nailed it. If there were ever such a thing as The Writer of Our Age, it would have to be Bob Dylan, with all respect to Lennon and McCartney, Jagger and Richards, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, Leonard Cohen, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Randy Newman, et al, et al... Dylan owns it, by any criterion, whatever you think of his voice. With few exceptions, IMO, writers rule.

  • @1492tomato WAS a poet? WAS an artist? He's still around!

  • @DaveMillerish A better self-editor than myself would have caught it. Mea culpa. The blush on my cheeks is only wine, not embarrassment:-) Thanks for your kind correction.

  • @1492tomato

May the 806 prefer the other version.

  • @1492tomato they are Jeff Buckley's fans

  • @1492tomato - shit, life in general hurts, but then exalts and celebrates that pain when your born with the dubitable "gift" to see through, into and around things. Some folks can do this and relate to this song, others hit the dislike button...

  • @thezenmind44 Spoken like a poet... Or at least one who thinks like a poet. Either way, it's a pleasure to correspond with one who has more thought than verbiage in their writing. Wish I could say the same about myself. Thank you.

  • @1492tomato what do you mean was?do you know something i don,t?

  • @1492tomato I like your response, very well worded.

  • @Goodbygirl Thank you. I like your screen name, very well chosen.

  • no disrespect, yet kd lang does Leonard proud with her cover, the emotion fills each "rise and lift"

  • @rainspirit100 You betcha! KD does everyone proud with her covers. She gets it - all of it - pretty much every time - and has the talent to convey it; whether onstage or in the studio.

  • I remeber time when I moved in you and the Holy Dove she was moving too... I mean, c'mon!

  • LoL the shriek song!!! Damn kids and their stupid ways of finding timeless classics.

  • Legendary frontline

  • No one sings this song better. Leonard cohen sings his song the best way possible. Love the original verson, hands down!!

  • To the new generation this song is know as "the shrek song". god save us.

  • @ClackJam

    No its not... -_-

  • Leonarad Cohen - Hallelujah: your music composition is sincere & so
