this album breaks my heart because the music is SO GOOD but the recording is SO SHITTY. i know a lot of you cooler people will say the recording is part of the charm, but i have always wished psychocandy was just a little bit cleaner .... just a little bit. don't get me wrong - still love the album. discovered it in 97 and still listen to it
@thenewwoodsman i hear you but wouldn't it just be another pleasant pop record if not for the shitty production? i love hook-laden pop but i think the noisy recording forces you to listen a little harder and discover the beautiful songs as if they were buried underground. no pun intended.
@ucla4eva wanker ... lol in that debut album on the dust sleeve Jiim Reid had the word "SUCK" in lipstick or marker on his exposed belly. My point? I don't need a point and neither do they, look up Metal Machine by Lou Reed - he did the massive feedback on purpose throught a whole album with the Velvet Underground - but that was to get our of a shitty recording contract. See I said shitty recording. I stayd on topic. its all in the subtext and in yer ears.
the best! doesn't pull the punch. and the recording - yeah it's intentional.

@thenewwoodsman actually the fact is not "the recording is shitty" but is more like "the J&MC wanted the recording that way".

Psychocandy (1985) is one of the most fascinating debut albums ever recorded! The perfect Velvet Underground influence!

This album is so ingenious, it's a shame there aren't any live videos of this song to be found on youtube.
