When my epson wouldn't let me print 1 more important sheet and I knew that it still had ink I was mad. I bought a continuous ink system (CISS) for $20 and haven't had to buy ink in a year so far. I am in charge of a 70k office supply budget at work and will never buy an epson product.
Funny I was watching french documentary on "planned obsolescence", or how corporation make their product life cycle shorter to have you replace them/buy new one, when you don't really need or shouldn't need to.
Let's take Apple. My first fat Powerbook bulk laptop, lived for 7 years or so. My white Macbook lived for 4 years. My Macbook Air has only one year and is starting to slow down..
Prices are not only going higher, the rate at which we have to renew our devices is also faster and faster.
@Augurae My problem is shoe companies pulling this stunt. It seems like my shoes as a kid lasted a good 2 years or more. And I was very active and always running around using them. Now, I have to buy new shoes almost every 6 months or so, even though all I used them for it to walk into town or work. It's not like I'm grinding the bottoms down on purpose.
my printers sucks so bad I can literally put in a fresh cartridge, and without printing a damn thing at all in 3 months the printer will tell me to replace the cartridge due to low ink level. It wont even allow me to print until I do. When I check the ink levels they are low but there is still plenty in there. I caught my printer doing a self-cleaning all by itself once a day or two.. I think during the self cleaning It burns off ink. you have to unplug the damn thing
Save a fortune and use continuous ink systems, I use one on my Epson B1100, comparative prices work out at about 50p per cartridge, I do crafting and believe me it saves me a lot of money and mess.
and when THAT is getting empty, you can buy really cheap ink in big bottles, open the original cartridge and fill it in and then close it again!!! voila! but the opening is in different places, depends what company it is...
This doesn't work on my Epson NX400 printer. At all. In fact, it made the printer tell me I was completely out of ink instead of telling me I had more of it.
This is another bullshit on YT, the hole is not even a switch, it is just the guide for IC. I just take out the chip and see it, there is no reset switch.
That my be true for Epson printers - don't remember but think your printer was an Epson. However, the chip is accurate on my Canon iP4700 printer; when it says it's out, it's out!
It's fake, but this video doesn't make sense anyway. If your printouts are faded, you ARE running out of ink, regardless of what the cartridge chip says...
Pressing the button doesn't magic up more ink out of thin air...
What he "pressed" was not even part of the circuit board. Just a dip in the plastic! :) Not a secret that manufacturers get their profit on the supplies and not the printer and there are tricks on both sides (refilling, cartridge id, resetting counters, non resettable counters) but this video is pathetic. :D Why would they put the button there in the first place if they want to sell an other cartridge anyway? :D lol (thumbs up if you agree)
This is why I just let the ink tell me where it's at instead of resetting the chip. If my page comes out dim the I'll change it. Good trick though for those who aren't nostalgic like myself.
im usually not the person, who klicks on videos, just to say it's fake, but this is fake i think, cause the chip normally the chip only reads while printing, and counts the used ink.
when you reset it, it should still say empty, or full, but not the real value, apart from that i don't think ompanys would build in such a button, cause why should they?
@muh1h1 Your logic is incorrect. You assume that the command that is read when the button is pressed is reset value to some number. Either full or empty. But that is not what happens. What it does is resample the amount in the cartridge. Because the cartridge was taken out and the powdered ink was moved around it will have different reading then it did before. I just pull out my cartridges and shake them.
This is great for cartridges that are "almost empty". Another option is to find your closest island ink-jet store. They can refill and reset the cartridges for you. Check their locations at islandinkjet . com
Online and I think ebay They are selling "inexpensively too" re-settable cartridges. They still run out, but you refill the cartridge and put it back in. when it gets pulled out of the printer the chip auto resets itself. Instead you only buy ink, how cool is that. This works really well for me. Epson cx7400. beats $50 for a set of cartridges.
I had a friend tell me this a few years back, and I always do the reset mem. before I throw anything out. but i never knew I could do any damage to the printer. But printers are so throw away NEways
This is only applicable when we have some error in our software.. I mean.. That there is ink and computer is not detecting it.. But if cartridge is really empty.. It'll damage your printer!
That is interesting but my printer ink reservoir is clear and I can see that there is nothing in there when it's out. But I'll double check that button to see if mine has it. I have a Cannon
If the printer gives less color, isn't that becuse it's actually running low on ink and not 'cuz the ink indicator says so? reseting the memory won't reset the actually ink and give the prints more color..
HP Deskjet 2000, $ 24.00... HP 61 Ink Cartridge. $ 24.00 ... EVERYBODY know it is a SCAM. To be fair to HP, the whole industry is scamming consumers and anti-environment - these bastards should support re-use, refill, recycle. Consumers will support if only one of them break away from GREED and be different.
Ho smontato una cartuccia epson stylus color TO804 ma il punto che schiacci con il ferretto non è altro che un perno di plastica che non ha niente a che vedere con il circuito ctampato e i condotti dell'inchiostro. Di che cartuccia stai parlando ?
Pressing the reset won't magically give you more ink. Sure it may help you read the levels better but when you're out of ink, you're out of ink, despite what the computer will tell you.
You gotta be careful with this. Printers that do not have the head built into the cartridge [like the Epson above] will overheat if there is no ink supplied to it [even if you are not printing that color] and will burn the heads up. Your attempt to save cash could cost you your printer.
@LusoAustralian Funny you say that. I ended up with a brand new Epson Stylus 1400 because a friend found a new printer with cartridges cheaper than buying a set for the Epson Stylus 1400 he already had.
um.... what if it isn't printing anymore?? i'm pretty damn sure that if it physically won't print... it doesn't matter how much ink the cartridge says is left in it... if there is no ink left... there is no ink left...
@jacobdanner91 It's just a guess, but my answer is that if this video is correct, then that circuit board thinking the ink ran out so it stopped the printer from retrieving the ink properly but... it's a wild guess, I don't know.

i use the same ink but the new cartridges prevent you from resetting anything. there is no button on the black ink, and the color ink one doesn't do anything. when you take the chip off the black one you see that it just relays to another sensor inside the cartridge and I dunno how to get to that one without destroying the cartridge. but thanks anyway

i use the same ink but the new cartridges prevent you from resetting anything. there is no button on the black ink, and the color ink one doesn't do anything. when you take the chip off the black one you see that it just relays to another sensor inside the cartridge and I dunno how to get to that one without destroying the cartridge. but thanks anyway
