  • 13 - first year of high school

  • Wow, very impressive. I played in St John's Smith Square during as a part of the New Year's Day Parade concerts. My high school Wind Ensemble, Amador Valley High School, played there because we marched in the 09 New Year's Day parade.

  • Liked your article in the Horn Player...must have been a brilliant experience! Remember sitting next to you at ensembles at the Conservatoire festival with you pulling out masses of music for us to play! How does it feel to be Britain's most famous amateur horn player?

  • Cheers Stephen, and indeed we had a great time in NY. British author, Jasper Rees, deservedly so, is the world's most famous amateur horn player. If you haven't read his book or seen his play, do so. His courageous example is an inspiration to any adult who wistfully contemplates an unfulfilled youthful passion.

It isn't often one gets a chance to make music with 20 other good horn players so it might as well be good music, so I bring my own. Full credit to Cala Music Publishing.

  • Great video!

    Hugs from Brazil!

  • wow at 0:07 i have played in the church in the background and my school is like next to there!

  • I Love this

  • you mean.... you dont even play a single note in this video?

  • Now that would be something. YTSO winner arrested on South Bank for noise violation. There's plenty on my channel.

  • best of luck today, and i love how you included the sights of London in your bio. and best of luck again.

  • Thanks. The show went down very well with the audience and we had a gas. So much energy.

  • Nice video, break a leg at the show man!

  • Cheers! I have never seen such a large group of musicians who have never played together before, gel like we did over such a short space of time. Bravo to Tim Lee (for his grand idea), to Ed Sanders (for executing on it) and the YouTube team.

  • Great video. Good luck on the performance. It's such a great idea. I love composing for the horn.

  • this is a very nice bio, thank you =) and wonderful perfomance yesterday!

  • Thanks! We had such fun being part of it - but ours was the easy bit. The hard bits were handled superbly by MTT, his helpers and the YouTube team.

And the mentors were an enormous resource.

  • i always thought Vienna was the horn capital... but cheers nonetheless.

  • Well that is still a matter of some debate by outsiders, but amongst hornplayers (and soundtrack producers), there is no question London has more superb, world class hornists per square km than any place else. That is not to belittle Wolfgang Tomböck, a paragon of virtuosity and his very skilled VPO colleagues who play boldly on tricky instruments that make listeners weep with joy, but the centre of gravity started to shift to London a century ago.

  • Yes messure.....but haf you ever rode a 49cc. moped around the wall of death with your handies tied behine your back whistling im a yankee deedle doody and also balancing a bucket of wet teabags on your chin ? ...???... .....i think not....., you havent lived my friend !!!!!! Yours etc.

  • great video,,, i love your delivery,,, when your looking at all those horns on the wall,, is that the horniman meusum in forest hill...if not you should visit their collection good luck in new york

  • Thanks. These are the Brain family horns behind me and are on the ground floor of the Royal Academy of Music Museum, just behind the delightful shop. Also in shot are Dennis' uncle Alfred's horn on the left and above me, Aubrey Brain's, his father's horn.

Indeed the Horniman was one of my first stops when I arrived in London many moons ago.

  • Horn capital of the world, and Capital of the world in General!!! :D I liked your video chap, and love zee music.

  • Penn? Hah! A local! I live near Beaconsfield. It always astounds me just how many talented people live around here.

  • Nice Jaguar

  • just watched the one that's been pieced together with everyone. They edited it so good and you were definately the best.

Having just watched this i still love the line. "enough about me, let's watch the ducks"!! Good luck in new york

  • Cheers. When I did my Tan Dun video, our aquarium was in the background, and, as if on cue, our growing catfish did a lovely turn. I have a ham, for a fish.

I thought the duck pond was appropriate, because if that fish grows much more, the duck pond is where he'll end up.

  • That's my bro....well done!!

  • I'll be at the concert to see you guys! Im thinking of coming to UK to study Horn for grad school.

  • Excellent Evan. Studying here is a wise choice - horn capital of the world, after all. Why settle for second best? I'll put you in touch with several students if you would like and you can get their opinion which college might suit you. There are four in London to choose from.

  • Yeah I would really love it to study in London. Hopefully I can cough up enough money to get there. But I'd love to get the chance to study with David Pyatt or Richard Bissill, and all of the great hornists from the UK. That would be great though if you could put me in touch with students from the different schools. I'd appreciate it!

  • Interesting video.Hope you enjoy your time in New York. Please come back to YouTube to show how you got on.

  • cool vid! See you in NYC

  • see you in NYC
