@happystar8081 They can't give up. You probably wouldn't experience a smartphone without Nokia. THEY INVENTED THE SMARTPHONE. And they made history. They've been around since the Industrial Revolution.
LOL... Though I think it's better to control them with money! xD I can do it now that I'm earning $55 a day with the method I found for free at ez-casino(dot)com... keep it secret! ;)
I love Qt and the commitment Nokia is making towards it. However - why make this look like an interview? It comes off fake and staged. Why doesn't the CTO just tell us himself?
I'm glad that you are upgrading your platform. I'm w/ Nokia for 10 years but you never disapointend me until 3 months ago.
N97 is overpromissing. Screen doesn`t work properlly, get stuck all the time and acuses "low memory" when is full of it. Turns off by himself and does not respect the tone I choose.
In contact w/ support they gave me random response aksing me to send my phone to them, we both know the problem is not just mine. Why don`t you just change it as iPhone did w/ 4?
finally!!! finally!!! backward based app support.... i mean that a app created for older version will run on newer version.... now we will have to see if when new OS version comes will phones on older version get that app or not.....
well I as a developer just can't stand c++ anymore. c# is a world of difference and the future, sorry. Visual Studio is also vastly superior to eclipse, and I bought and developed a lot of plugins and tools for it. I would loose all that when switching to qt/eclipse.
@eerosalonen Well, that's good. Addons however work always better with c#, because the language is apparently easier to analyze. Just another reason why c++ sucks.
@MrMeai In Qt, you don't use all the features from C++, just a subset. This makes the code pretty simple yet powerful, and IMHO, it's very well done.
Not surprisingly, this is the same approach that Google does (and possibly others too). Search for "google c++ style guide", and you'll see the approach that they have with C++. No exceptions, no RTTI, etc.
@suy21 Two words: templates + pointers. Sure qt doesn't need all the features of c++, but the complexity of c++ features will inevitably creep into a larger project. It's just unnecessary in my opinion. And using boost to "remove" the risk of pointers, is first of all: ugly long syntax, (Yes I know typedef's, still), and you could just aswell go to c# if you use boost. Sometimes reading a complicated template is like reading damn hieroglyphs.
@MrMeai You don't need to use boost at all using Qt, and through all Qt there aren't many templates either. The parent-child relation of Qt objects also removes the need to use auto_ptr, etc.
That is brilliant! IMO, making Symbian "one" version/platform and constantly keep updating it part by part(browser, maps, UI, etc...) as they become available and making it available to all(Symbian^3) the phones like Nokia N8 is simply genius!
Wow, you're doubling down your efforts and will provide high performance browsing- sounds great, but when?
MS announced WP7, a completely new mobile OS, this year and they already are selling phones, including a good browser.
Nokia could build on S1 and still needed so much time and still has no good browser, that's a real shame. And while there are several W7 phones selling 2 weeks after thier presentation, we in Austria have to wait til 2nd half of Dec. for the N8 (announced 6 months ago!!)
nokia, honestly, disrupted the developers' trust level... so that's hard to earn...

@ronaldoart it has been changed... in the n8 c7 e7 etc (even the n900)
supposedly a lot of the n97 issues were fixed with firmware updates but the initial disappointment still hasn't left
