  • so even though they took the hill, i heard something about a fire mission on the radio. does that mean they were about to airsrtike their own men?

  • Epic Movie!

  • Anyone know what the final battle looks like?

  • What did he whisper in his ear when he sat down next to his buddy?

  • @rockynkelli Some other people have wondered that too. I don't know myself. It kinda reminds me of that scene in "Reservoir Dogs" where Harvey Keitel whispers to Tim Roth and makes him laugh - I have no idea what he says either. Maybe other people know.

  • @HenryvKeiper He says "feels good"

  • @rockynkelli ..I have watched it several times and the closest thing I can come up with is that he is either saying, "life is good" or "that was good." I am about 95% sure the last word is good...anyone else wanna take a stab at it?

  • @rockynkelli he says "feels good"

  • @iapiaya If you are refering to the Vietnam era about your 'experience'. I was a baby at the time but if my history books are correct. Any Soldier that showed up and fought for a Country that didn't even want to grant him basic Civil Rights will always be a better man than you. My Dad and Uncle both served in Veitnam. My Dad was killed there. For my Dad, Fuck you. Disrespectful cocksucker. Funny thing though, we fought for our Rights and won. Did Native Americans win their struggle?

  • @Ihateyourfuckinggutz Me as a HISPANIC whose father served in the VIETNAM WAR IN 67' AND 69' with the ARMY 101st AIRBORNE AND 82ND AIRBORNE I AM DEEPLY SORRY FOR THE LOSS OF YOUR FATHER. But my dad said he was treated bad for being hispanic and wearing the US uniform but put it behind him and it made his skin thicker and vietnam made it browner...

  • the end quote is on the Vietnam memorial wall in NYC

  • this movie depicts the REAL sheer brutality of the Vietnam war

  • whatever happened tp Tim Quill, the other two had fine careers, he was good in this.

  • Major Michael Davis O'Donnell was killed when his helicopter was shot down after extracting a special forces team inside Cambodia. Just in case you don't know, Major O'Donnell wrote the poem at the end of the movie.

  • @TheWizardTrembyle I knew his relevance to the film, but unfortunately I did not know that he died while in service :(

  • @HenryvKeiper TheWizardTrembyle is a troll so don't mess around with him. He pretends to be a psycho maniac under the name of MKShaggy1985.

Please troll MKShaggy1985 because he gets away with idiocy. This guys rages and PMSes and nobody seems to realizes it.

  • @HenryvKeiper

Neither did I. Cheers Wizard. And may Major D. O'Donnell rest in peace.

  • @TheWizardTrembyle Nice game you play MKshaggy. Be a raging nerd that whines about his life and then act like you're insightful. Somebody needs to go kill themselves now. :)

  • As a former British soldier and radio operator, yes, the radio call is heartbreaking.

  • We lost the war in Vietnam for various reasons: (1) Our strategy of limited war sucked, (2) The hippies (aka communists) did damage on the home front, (3) but the most important reason is the war in Vietnam was not worth losing the Cold War over, which took up the vast majority of our military resources, and wasting them in a land with no strategic value was stupid. In the end America won the big war, which was our cold war with Soviet Russia, Vietnam was only one battle in that war.

  • it is a movie -- what does the private whisper to the sargent after he crawls to the tree?

  • These three guys deserved to survive, they were so cool.

  • A good soldier- his instinct is to look after his comrades first, guy in the middle does this. You are either thoughtful of others or you are not, you arr either brought up like this or you are not.

  • what does the guy in the radio say?

  • @DaCevkoch Red 6, the call sign of the ranking officer, is trying to reach his units, designated by the call signs Red 16, Red 16A, and Red 16C. All those units failed to respond, implying that their officers, as well as their radio operators and head NCOs, had been killed in the assault. Furthermore, the way the chain of command works, subordinate leaders hypothetically should have picked up the radio commo after their death, so the entire unit is sort of implied KIA

  • @PRLTMFW

    thanks mate

    thanks a bunch ;D

  • @PRLTMFW Excellent point.

  • I think this movie is accurate but I don't see how you would think its the most accurate. Haven't any of you seen Platoon? That wasn't written by historians. It was written and directed by a vet.

  • @Transformers2themax "Hamburger Hill" is far more accurate in terms of portrayal of the military in uniform, tactics, orders, etc. "Platoon," by contrast, is inaccurate in this regard. Furthermore, "Platoon" was a fictional story, whereas "Hamburger Hill" is completely true. A vet or not, Oliver Stone should have known better - in fact, inaccuracies in his other films (such as his script for "Midnight Express") show that he isn't one for complete accuracy when it comes to film portrayal.

  • @HenryvKeiper Perhaps. Platoon was a much better movie though. Artistically speaking.

  • @XenophobicPiglet Nah, Porky's II was far superior.

  • @HenryvKeiper The battle seens were very inaccurate, but American soldiers did screw around with Vietnamese civilians like that in "Platoon."

  • @Transformers2themax and filmed in london...

  • @Transformers2themax - So Oliver Stone shot his commanding officer did he? Grow up!

  • @Transformers2themax They are different kinds of films. Platoon is a film about a regular Army platoon full of mostly draftees who probably weren't born to be soldiers, with the exception of Elias and Barnes. So the movie delves into their internal struggles and the morale of a unit.

Hamburger Hill is about the 101st Airborne in general at the battle of Ham. Hill. These weren't draftees.. they were volunteer Paratroopers. So the context of both movies are completely different.

  • @Transformers2themax

Hamburger Hill was written by James Carabatsos, he served with the 1st Air Cavalry Division in Vietnam during the late 60's. Since he was not involved with the battle of Hamburger Hill he needed to do extensive research, which involved talking to those that were there. The writer WAS a Vietnam vet. The director was not.

  • @deleond2

It's worth noting that this was one of the early films that Dale Dye served as technical advisor which is why you don't see any of the ridiculous historical inaccuracy like in Platoon where Barnes is walking around with a Colt M4 carbine that didn't exist yet and can't be claimed as a CAR15 because he wasn't in Special Forces or MACVSOG. Things like that really bother me.

  • Give those VC pieces of shit hell.

  • platoon is a really good one

  • I always thought this was better than Platoon.

  • It used to really mean something to be American .............. nowadays people invade our Country as illegal aliens and directly and indirectly add to the violence, gangs, and poverty therein. When will this Country stand up for itself instead of standing on foreign soils to what ends??

  • @DetroitLove4U Well as for mexicans coming to america I can not blame them If I had a family in such a bad place I would move also

  • The point of a war is not to die for your country but to make another poor bastard die for his.

  • Those radio calls are from the battalion's C.O. He is trying to get a response from

the totally wiped out Companies, those basically being Red 1-6, Red 1 Alpha, and Red 1 Charlie. All of those wasted lives for nothing but the bantering and machinations of the U.S. Political system which should have kept their stinking

noses out of the "Police Action". They should have called it a WAR!

  • DOOOOOONNNNN CHEADDDLLLEEE!!

  • Vietnam sucked

  • Best Vietnam movie ever.

  • bugerking on hambuger hill xD

  • I can't believe lot of US troops died talking this hill for nothing. Because couple of months later, they abandoned the hill.

  • in 2008, i showed this movie in class, students didnt take there eyes off this movie, in fact i didnt know until later a few fathers called me to thank me for showing this movie in class, they were vietnam veterans. though i got written up for insubordination, from the administration i didnt care i taught vietnam and this movie helped me. thank you for uploading this blessings to all

  • @hanno21664 Thanks for sharing this story. I think it's a different kind of Vietnam film than most because: 1) it's a true story, rather than the more popular "Platoon" and "Apocalypse Now," both of which are pure fiction; 2) it presents the war in a non-compromising way. It doesn't try to be patriotic like Wayne's "The Green Berets," but neither does it try to be anti-military. War is hell. You don't have to get preachy, you simply have to show it. The audience will get the message.

  • @HenryvKeiper thank you my friend for your reply, i always did and still talk to veterans, whether from ww II, korea, vietnam, gulf conflict, and even the Afghan and Iraq conflict, because as my grandfather said "books are important but who better to back you up and give detail then veterans, always read yes, but always learn from veterans as well" sure those movies you have mentioned are good heck i have them, but as you have stated Ham. Hill is real. thank you friend

  • @HenryvKeiper

Yeah man there is noting glorious about war. In the end you are just very happy that you are your buddies made it out alive and that you get to see your family again. I am very thankful to God that people where praying for me while I was in Iraq, cause there where some close calls.

  • @haszK Thank you for your service. My father is over there right now.

  • @haszK Thankyou fore your service to this nation

  • @HenryvKeiper

We were soldiers is a good one about Vietnam also..

  • @darkswerk Ah, yes, I agree. That is a good one. The original writer even said it was the only good Vietnam War film he'd ever seen. Actually, I was living on Ft. Benning at the time they were filming it :) That scene where they had the party at night took place right across my house, and that scene where Sam Elliot walks across the open plain was only two blocks from where I lived. The stadium scene likewise.

  • @HenryvKeiper My uncle fought in Vietnam and this was his pick for recommended movies, as for it being most realistic.

  • @ykaiilah Thank your uncle for his service. And his taste in films :)

My dad wasn't in Vietnam, but he has military service, and he likes this out of most Vietnam films for its accuracy in attention to detail (how units move, how situations are handled via communication, etc).

  • @hanno21664 if this movie is rated PG-13 then u should hav been able to show it and if it was rated R and if they were all seniors then u should hav been able to show it.

  • @nwilson59 hello my friend, its rated R, i was teaching all grades, i had contacted ALL parents via phone told them i would be sending out a permission slip, some parents knew of the movie, told me they would be happy to sign it, every slip was signed and i was still fighting the Admin to show the movie, they sad the students might not understand the violence or be offended. such BS. but i finally showed the movie

  • @hanno21664 Movies that might make 16 year olds think twice to sign up are to not be shown in class ?

  • hello my friend, well i guess that was the thinking of the administration. i was teaching about the vietnam conflict and wanted to show the best movie i could dealing with all aspects of life for a soldier in that time period. I was told by school administration that it was"too violent, too disturbing, and might effect them mentally,"plus some moron vice pincipal told me "it was a fake movie that fight like that didnt happen that way" i showed the movie i have no regrets doing it either

  • even though i got permission slips in i still got written up for insubordination. one father told me they the govt should have a Congressional Medal of Honor for teachers. i told him higher pay would do nicely for me. take care friend.

  • @hanno21664 if you are teaching anywhere in north america...i think being punished for insubordination like that means you are doing the right thing for our children

Well done and keep up the good fight to truly give our kids a real education.

Sometimes kids need to be shocked and awed to open up their eyes...A film like this is perfect for it

  • hello my friend and thank you for your kind post, i want to share this we had a vietnam vet at the school with the ROTC classes and every one kept thanking him for his service, i approached him and said welcome home my friend, he looked at me got up gave me a hug and told me he never heard that in his life after vietnam until i said it,he expressed to me that what i said meant more to him than anything else. after seeing him cry i started as well not a ahamed to admit that take care friend

  • @hanno21664 Thanks for doing so.

  • @yoyoofloco your welcome my friend. i thought to myself after i graudated with my history/philosphy degree the best way to really understand history is to talk, learn, and listen to the war vets. even people had family in the armed services in any way in the 20th century, even they had stories to tell. i had the honor to listen to a ww I vet when i was 20, he told everyone before he started that war effects everyone even those at home. thank you again my friend take care.

  • One of sadest war movies in history

  • in the beginning of the movie there are 14 people in their squad. At the top there are only 3. The radio messages are from HQ to squads that were completely wiped out, which is why there's no reply.

  • I think that the Arvn got that. Was that Honeycot and the 3/187.

    Fuck you.

  • philosofic

  • They went with songs to the battle, they were young,

Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.

They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,

They fell with their faces to the foe.

    They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

    We will remember them.

    Lest We Foeget

    Vietnam TET 1968

  • There has never been a logical reason for war.

  • @grazer7 yeah there is - to protect our freedoms. I guess you must take yours for granted.

  • @grazer7 Three words: World War Two

Heck, if putting a genocidal regime out of power isn't logical enough for you...

  • Yeah but that wasnt the reason. Hell we dont care what the regime is inside a country. We were more scared of ReD Russia. We only went to war to protect the Geo-political balance that the a number of countries which would become 'The Allies' liked.

War is about Power. Only reason. When its about defense, its about the other guy trying to get geographic/political control/force of will over other nation-states.

  • @fp470 No contest there; that is a fair perspective to take regarding the objective nature of war.

Still, I think it was a good choice to keep said geopolitical power out the hands of Nazis. War is terrible, but, on extremely rare occasions, morally justified.

  • GOD BLESS AMERICA AND GOD BLESS THE HERD!!!!! ROCK ON MY HEROS< ROCK ON WEL 1/503 173d Abn Bde 66-68

  • Bah humbug. America didn't lose the war due to lack of military prowess. America lost the war because of hippies.

  • hooah

  • actually we didn't lose the war at all , we lost the peace. i've had no peace since june 1969 when it was my job to fly over that A.O. for a year on sniffer missions with C troop 2/17 Cav 101st. the hill did look pretty much like that in the movie, except the dirt i remember was still red for a long time after. The tree stumps is what i remember looked like that. it made it hard to get close to the ground so the Blue teams could get back in the chopper. i still don't like hippies or commies. tj

  • @tj5555555 Thank you. The fighting men and women of this country have my respect.

  • I'm Vietnamese...

And I agree, if the US stayed a bit longer, they would've probably wipe out the NVA and VC through continuous bombing.

  • More than you moron.

  • @RAINBOWHORSES and Jane Fonda

  • @RAINBOWHORSES no we lost the war due to the lack of mexican troops

  • @thesouthrapsucks if u had mexican troops u guys would have takin that hill like nonthing.

  • @GiFtEdv3 Mexican troops? it took Mexicans 13 days to take the Alamo lol.

  • @RAINBOWHORSES and Congress

  • @RAINBOWHORSES...America "losing' the Vietnam war is such a subjective topic. Did we finish the job in a politcal sense? NO. But we spared millions of Vietnamese (North and South) a miserable atomic death. Something everyone fails to remember. WE COULD'VE NUKED THEM AT ANYTIME DURING OUR STAY. THERE'S NO WAY TO SURVIVE THAT KIND OF ENDING. HOW LONG DID IT TAKE JAPAN TO SURRENDER IN 1945? WE SPARED ALL OF VIETNAM FOR HUMANITY SAKE...

  • @RAINBOWHORSES America lost the war because they couldn't fight a guerilla war, they could only fight a conventional war!

  • @ectomy1235 America lost the War because we lost the allegiance of the South. America lost nothing on the battlefield. Vietnam was never worth it. Now South Koreans had the resolve to vehemently stand beside America and help fight off the Communists, which is why South Korea is Free today.... and prospering.

South Vietnam had internal problems even before the War. They lied about the prowess of their military. And even went as far as falsifying pictures of dead NVA that they "killed."

  • @StonewallJackson26 just to remind you but there is British blood in korea as well may not have had the biggest presence but we where there and fought tooth and nail.

  • @dantae666 Sure Britain lost 1000 dead in Korea. They contributed, just like Canada and Turkey. My grandpa was in Korea, attached to Baker Company, third Battalion, 25th Infantry Division(Tropic Thunder). He told me that he had a run in with some Brits on the Pusan perimeter close to the Naktong River. " Real colorful guys." As he described them.

  • @RAINBOWHORSES And Yes! Hippies had a lot to do with America losing the support of the Southern Vietnamese.

  • This was filmed in the philippines, That's chris at 4:09 at the end, I befriended him briefly in the early to mid 90's, I wonder how He is doing now, anyways I wish him the best in his acting career.

  • Anyone know, what he whispered to the Sgt?

  • awesome tune...fits the battle perfectly

  • Nothing like the real shit !! A co 1st bn 506inf

  • at the end the guy on the radio who requested fire mission was he the onli one left?

  • I think that was just incidental dialogue at an another event. If you listen to the theme music, that same radio conversation is put in there before the end credits tune.

  • @jaredlee283 I think that scene is really important because there they are quietly sitting at the top...realizing all the shit they went through to get there...finally its done............than the radio kicks in and he realizes....oh fuck......the world is still going on...there is more to do in this god awful situation.

  • PS: I understand the meaning (simbolism) of the radio comunications: the batallion CO is calling to his units and platoons commanders, but nobody answer him, because they`re all dead.

  • I like this movie. I think it`s one of the best movies about Vietnam.

I need some help. Somebody can transcript literally the radio comunications between 4:36 to 4:46 please. I`m chilean and I can`t understand very well the radio comunications to get the impact of the end.

    I`ll apreciate that. Thanks.

  • Ha ha, actually that communication (between the two times you listed) is just incidental stuff before the end credits. It's what happens before that is important. But here it is, to the best of my own ability.

"Cold-Steel-Cobra, this is Bravo-3-6, fire mission, over."

"This is Cold-Steel-Cobra (something) mission, over."

  • Thanks for your help. I want to know because when I listened it I can´t understand.

I agree with you that it´s what happens before the most important. If I`m not wrong (You can correct me if you want) the radio comunication say this

"Red 1-6, this is Red 6, over."

"Red 1-6 Alpha, this is Red 6, over."

"Red 1-6 Charlie, this is Red 6, over."

"Red 1-6, this is Red 6, what`s your radio signal (or sign real)." I`m not sure

Thanks for your help again. Grettings for Chile.

  • No problem, and that's about right. Greetings from America :D

  • The final transmission is "Red 1-6, this is Red 6, what's your sitrep, over." Sitrep is situation report, basically how you ask how everything is going in the military.

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for your information! All clear now

  • @rmunvi its sitrep "situation report"

  • @rmunvi it´s because they are wiped OUT!! that´s why they don´t answer!:D

  • @rmunvi Red 1/6 Alpha (Alpha is frenetic for Actual) would be the platoon commander (2ndLt) no answer means he's dead. Red 1/6 Charlie would be the comm guy carrying the radio, no answer means he's also KIA. Then he calls out to anyone in Red 1/6 to pick up the radio and give him a SitRep (situational report), no one answers implying they are all either killed or incapacitated.

  • It was thier job trying to free vietnam this was apperntly important hill to our leaders for tht many attampts give them a break the military has done this for america to so be quiet give respect u have no right to critisize a soilder they are given orders and they follow them

  • wat does the ending mean? symbolize?

  • The voice on the radio is calling for various commanders, and getting no answers. It's because they're all dead.

  • I AGREE'''

  • Communism removed freedom, Destroyed individualism, and was destined to fail, Full Capitalism is destined to become unsuccessful and abusive So idk, this movie puts into perspective the pain and comradery. I love talking to veterans Including my father who served as an air traffic controller and responded to firefights before that during the end of the vietnam war around 1972 during operation linebacker 2, and the stories of rockets and mortars dropping around the base. Its just so tragic.

  • What about Socialism?

  • 1 death is too many considering the communist in the long term accomplished nothing, Vietnam over time became less extreme changing from a communist govt. to a socialist govt. and now allows limited private enterprise. The people have more freedom now then ever. Considering the original US puppet govt was a dictator and the communist collapsed. Atleast we know maybe Vietnam is somewhat more free because of these wars so they didnt die in vain. The war cost too much pain.

  • man..I was gonna get this

  • good film but not a great film (i have a lot of affection for it)

  • They took the gawddam hill!

    Hooorah!

  • Ahem - Hooah. This is the army :)

  • thats it put your m16 all over the dirt nothing will happen

  • Great movie

  • One of the bloodiest war movies out there.

  • Yeah we won this battle against those ugly gooks.

  • all except they took back the hill the very next day and killed our survivors

  • Die in a fire, you seriously are going to talk down to our boys that died for us. Wake up or die.

  • i'm not downing our soldiers fuck tard thats what really happened

  • fact?

would the men who took the hill be the aforementioned survivors?

  • wow i don't i would have it . i would probally die like duffy..

  • Leadership was dead, but one sgt was left alive, and I think it is also poignant how he ignored Blackjack.

  • We should have never f u c k i n g ben there. 55000 dead Americans and 1,000,000 Vietnamese

  • Alright and if we didnt even attempt to stop communism you could have been farming potatoes in the Soviet Union!

  • Big words from a 19 punk who has never even been in a combat zone.

What? Potato farming in the CCCP?

The Vietnamese were never ever a threat to us. Never. So get that proxy war shit out of your head.

To edify your limited intellect watch the Fog of War

  • Comment removed

  • and you have been shut the fuck up you prick you complain about the 1 million plus North Vietnamese what about the over 2.5 million South Vietnamese killed when the NVA took Saigon fuck off you prick

  • That war had nothing to do with us. Has Vietnam attacked us since then? Better yet, did Vietnam ever attack us? When I mean attack, I mean CONUS. Dumbshit.

  • Never help your allies. They should just die when they need help.

  • windsofsolaris you call them, the CCCP please what does CCCP stand for in Russian? Because I see so many wannabe commies please tell me what the Russian meaning is.

  • ебатecь и ваша лошадь ! Союза Советских Социалистических Республик

  • мой отец родился в Москве и был гордым моряком Соединенных Штатов, который убил коммунистов

  • Tell me, what did the USA accomplished in Vietnam?. On the end the North overrun the South anyway. So, why did they die for?.

BTW, dont believe all anticomunism propaganda you ear/read. Aint more true than Antiamerican from the other side.

  • We accomplished almost nothing. The entire point of these movies is to show the bravery these men had for doing this job, wether they wanted to or not.

  • War is futile and everyone fighting in wars pays a price so the USA accomplished nothing but getting sucked into a big heap of quicksand.

  • Can someone please explain why the radio messages is an impact?

  • Because he is going through the leadership positions (i.e. Lieutenant) and no one is answering leading us to believe that all the leadership is dead. I'm not sure if they are going down the platoon line (LT, platoon sgt, etc) or a company.

  • Fmr General and Commander of the Strategic Air Command Curtis LeMay had a plan for taking all of Vietnam and China in an afternoon. Russia had issues against it.

  • anyone know why the US didn't just invade the north, march everyone up. we had the man power and the firepower. i never understood that.

  • I believe it was a (misguided) policy of containment (ie so long as we keep the north from the south we're OK) as well as a hesitation to escalate it any further than we had to. Nixon would later start attacking the north via air attacks, leading to the North signing a peace agreement.

  • China had 6 millions troops ready to invade VN if U.S. would moved north. it would be like korean war again.

    it would starts WW3.

  • Yep...with Russia backing them ALL the way.

  • They were afraid of China getting involved.. I agree we should have invaded the North and allowed us to go and snuff out the NVA sanctuaries in Laos and Cambodia. We would devastate the NVA units and they would just go over into Laos and Cambodia and regroup and rearm and come back. We could have won that war in 3-5 years if the U.S. government would have faught the war to win .

  • at the beginning of the movie there were 14 of them. Now theres three.

  • the most incredible and tragic thing is that after they captured that fucked up hill losing a lot of men, after they devasted forever survivors' lives what did they do? they retired. why? a great sacrifice for what? this is the most dramatic thing.

  • The whole stradegy of Vietnam was about killing the enemy not conquering land...That hill only had value when there were enemy troops there to kill...The US coudn't conquer the North for political reasons & The N Vietnamese couldn't conquer the US for obvious reasons...So the strategy of both sides was to kill as many of the enemy as possible in the hope that one side would tire of the war and quit......A body count war...

  • My grandfather still suffers from Vietnam syndrome and he will not talk to me about his time there, sometimes he goes into rampages, I choose not to talk to him about it, I will never know what he is going through... This war was so FUCKING TRAGIC!!

  • Vietnam Syndrome? Don't you mean Post Traumatic Stress Disorder/PTSD?

  • i cant beleive Don cheedles in this. the ending scene of just the face was amazingly simple yet it was also memorizing

  • Red 1.6.alpha.....this is Red 6 over.

  • Red 6 hier 22echo over. Red 6 hier 22echo over. Red 6 niet gehoord, uit.

  • the guy keeps saying that over and over the radio looking for any Soldiers alive in those companies, but they're all dead

  • Fuck me? Why? This is regular dutch military radio procedure, which I'm using since Lebanon 1982 till today. It means that the station you are calling doesn't react.

  • Im not good on my Dutch but is it? Red 22echo here on. 6 Red 22echo here on. Red 6 is not heard from?
