waitaminute ....when you pause at 2:08. that was NOT the 6. thats either the 1 or the 3 train. the 6 only has 1 small window where the conductor peeks out on each side. the 1/3 has two which is what your looking at now.. the new trains such as the 6 dont have ridges on the side, the 1/3does. my god this is 2009 and movies are still making errors.

However - Walter Matthau was not a 'controller' but a NY Transit cop. I will have to see the new one on the big screen to see how much better this version is - as i suspect that it will be with CG and a better bigger budget.
As I remember the original, and it was some time ago. Matthau was not a controller but an investigator in the service of the NY Transit Police, who was, therefore, free to go about and interview suspects. A controller would not do that.
Not that important but it might be well worth me taking the time to investigate further, just to be sure.
The original was great, so was the TV version with Vincent D'Ononfrio. This one looks really good though. In the original Walter Matthau 's character was much more assertive and together than Denzel Washington's character. Washington's character appears to be passive and was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Robert Shaw's character in the original was bordering sociopath, John Travolta appears to be channeling that.
Judging from the previews in my opinion the updated version looks promising and I agree that putting Travolta an Washington was a plus. Perhaps no one loved the original 1974 version as much as I did, but to make the new Pelham 123 identical with the old one would do both movies grave injustice! Times have changed and after all, this is 2009 NYC, not 1974 NYC!
The 1974 version is SPECTACULAR. The Denzel and Travolta version looks like post 9/11 TRIPE. What a shame. Shaw and Mattheau were brilliant. Not to mention the 70's gritty NYC was so dirty and wicked. And a killer soundtrack.
I agree with mwhite36, when I first heard about a remake of this film, I was apprehensive, I am such a fan of the original, I felt a re-do wouldn't live up to the quality of the first. I felt a little better hearing that Denzel and John Travolta were gonna be involved. Now, after viewing the trailer, my mind is now at ease. It looks like the producers and director were respectful of the tone and feel of the original piece, while adding a bit of a spin and style to it. Looking forward to it...

Nice point here... many americans (and non-americans) tend to use a when they should use an. Always use an instead of a in front of any word beginning with a vowel or a letter, word, or acronym with a sound similar to a vowel, like, 'That is AN SAT test.' SAT sounds like it could/does start with an E, as in Essential, therefore should be preceded by AN instead of A. If you are going to post, make sure you do it PERFECTLY, w/o any imperfections, otherwise your point is moot.
Looks decent enough. There's much worse being slapped up on the big screen nowadays. I'll take my chances with Washington and Travolta any day. I love the milk line. Gives a fantastic peek at the dynamic between Denzel's character and his wife. Makes u wonder if she ever gets that milk. Oooh the suspense!
While the original had class and real tension, this one is going to be nothing but lot of explosions and CGI gimmickry. Yet another example of how Hollywood has fallen.
I really don't have too much faith in it, I agree with murdoc on the milk line, and also judging by the way they do the countdown at the end, Tony Scott is still gonna do his stupid "My Name Is Domino Harvey" Editing Technique, the only movie he got that right was Man On Fire, but not he's like a 4 year old hitting a bunch of buttons.

waitaminute ....when you pause at 2:08. that was NOT the 6. thats either the 1 or the 3 train. the 6 only has 1 small window where the conductor peeks out on each side. the 1/3 has two which is what your looking at now.. the new trains such as the 6 dont have ridges on the side, the 1/3does. my god this is 2009 and movies are still making errors.

why do people complain about it..."ohh that was a classic why remake it..leave it alone"...old is old and new is what we live in..if the old was good..than thats good..and if this is better...than i dont care how good the old one was...in y opinion..im ALWAYS excited when people or writers make remakes...its a challenge...and yes some sux but i wouldnt mind if they remake everything..i like too see different views of film making....ADAPT!!!

is he the coolest and he also gave money to a children's hospital in NM alot a people were so grateful on the news . His message to Roswell was a challenge to meet his donation next year. I have family there and everyone was bummed now their oh so happy .God bless Denzel for his heart

However - Walter Matthau was not a 'controller' but a NY Transit cop. I will have to see the new one on the big screen to see how much better this version is - as i suspect that it will be with CG and a better bigger budget.

As I remember the original, and it was some time ago. Matthau was not a controller but an investigator in the service of the NY Transit Police, who was, therefore, free to go about and interview suspects. A controller would not do that.
Not that important but it might be well worth me taking the time to investigate further, just to be sure.

The original was great, so was the TV version with Vincent D'Ononfrio. This one looks really good though. In the original Walter Matthau 's character was much more assertive and together than Denzel Washington's character. Washington's character appears to be passive and was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Robert Shaw's character in the original was bordering sociopath, John Travolta appears to be channeling that.

The charm of the original is it's simplicity, the equality oif it's cast & it's subtleties.

Judging from the previews in my opinion the updated version looks promising and I agree that putting Travolta an Washington was a plus. Perhaps no one loved the original 1974 version as much as I did, but to make the new Pelham 123 identical with the old one would do both movies grave injustice! Times have changed and after all, this is 2009 NYC, not 1974 NYC!

The 1974 version is SPECTACULAR. The Denzel and Travolta version looks like post 9/11 TRIPE. What a shame. Shaw and Mattheau were brilliant. Not to mention the 70's gritty NYC was so dirty and wicked. And a killer soundtrack.

I agree with mwhite36, when I first heard about a remake of this film, I was apprehensive, I am such a fan of the original, I felt a re-do wouldn't live up to the quality of the first. I felt a little better hearing that Denzel and John Travolta were gonna be involved. Now, after viewing the trailer, my mind is now at ease. It looks like the producers and director were respectful of the tone and feel of the original piece, while adding a bit of a spin and style to it. Looking forward to it...

right. there is no train line called pelham 123. and was that times square where the hijack begun? hmmm.. yes. yes it is. the 6 does not stop there. and the cieling R142 train model looks more like an r46. was denzel washington running by the williamsburg bridge, which is where the j, m, and z trains go? the 6 does not go there. i live by "pelham 123" and this is a disgrace to my neighborhood! i will never watch this movie. this is a disgusting movie... :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Nice point here... many americans (and non-americans) tend to use a when they should use an. Always use an instead of a in front of any word beginning with a vowel or a letter, word, or acronym with a sound similar to a vowel, like, 'That is AN SAT test.' SAT sounds like it could/does start with an E, as in Essential, therefore should be preceded by AN instead of A. Mixed emotions about this movie being remade - but I won't pass judgment, since I haven't even seen it yet or read any reviews.

Looks decent enough. There's much worse being slapped up on the big screen nowadays. I'll take my chances with Washington and Travolta any day. I love the milk line. Gives a fantastic peek at the dynamic between Denzel's character and his wife. Makes u wonder if she ever gets that milk. Oooh the suspense!

I really don't have too much faith in it, I agree with murdoc on the milk line, and also judging by the way they do the countdown at the end, Tony Scott is still gonna do his stupid "My Name Is Domino Harvey" Editing Technique, the only movie he got that right was Man On Fire, but not he's like a 4 year old hitting a bunch of buttons.
