Some doctor completely over reacted and told you wrong. The treatment for paraphimosis is to pull the skin forward again. It may require application of ice, squeezing the head a bit. In very extreme case a small incision can be made in the skin to help pull it forward again. Circumcision is completely out of line for something like that.

This controversial issue is similar to getting your daughter's ears pierced, which I had done on my daughter when she was 3mos. It hurt, she cried and she stopped and it was done and over with! This video is only "out there" if you grew up in a pro circumcision culture such as the US, however it is worth noting that only us Americans practice secular circumcision on the majority of our babies -- Europeans for example don't do this. I won't speak from experience, but I was never given the choice. You at least let your son leave the hospital whole. He was circumcised because he needed to be, and that's fair. Don't deprive future kin of their rights. If your son doesn't understand now, he will later because it was necessary. I am 22 years old and I will never understand.

this is a very good video. i didn't circumcise my son because, i didnt want someone cutting my son up when it is not medically necessary and also i want to give him the choice. later in life if he is truly unhappy with his foreskin, then i will do whatever is needed to make him happy. even though it is 10 times more expensive to circumcise when they are older. parents are just being lazy if they want to circumcise their son because it will be easier to clean. it takes 2 seconds!!!

alax, if you intend to subject a young baby to the trauma of circumcision, then you are unfit to be a parent. A baby is NOT anaesthetised, but a child or adult ALWAYS is, which at least reduces the pain. SUBCONSCIOUS memory of traumatic events persists and will affect a person's psyche at some level. Circumcision is being over-daignosed in circumcising nations (e.g. USA). It is very uncommon for a guy to need circumcision.

My son also had paraphimosis but he was successfully treated with a dorsal slit incision that doesn't require the full amputation of circumcision. In a pro genital cutting culture as we in America have, doctors will conclude circumcision is necessary in exactly the same situations where a doctor from a non-genital cutting culture would not. If your daughter had an analogous condition with her clitoral hood, do you think the doctor would ever recommend clitoral hood amputation?

ukaluk, circumcision doesn't "prevent AIDs". Believing that myth is one of the surest ways to GET IT! Education and responsible sexual behaviour do prevent or reduce AIDs. The USA has a higher incidence of AIDs per capita than the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Sweden and Germany; in all of these countries less than 10% of the male poulation is circumcised compared to over 80% in the USA.
