  • Anubis is the Egyptian god of death and funerals.

  • Thats a royal dog im getting one love their golden coat

  • I own a pharaoh named Jypsy, and have for a little over 9 years. She's an -amazing- dog, and though she's getting older she's still so full of life. :) They're a wonderful and intelligent breed... And the fact that they 'blush' makes me love my dog even more.

  • I have had two Pharaoh Hounds. First was called Cairo (he has videos here) next was a rescue named Aladdin. In my opinion they are the best dogs to have ever, if you are wanting a purebred. I plan to rescue next time. In face Aladdin was a rescue.

They are NOT Egyptian. They are from Malta and genetic sequencing has discovered they are nowhere near that old

I like them because of their behavior, not where they came from. They are simply awesome.

  • very very old breeds of dog Whippets Greyhounds and Pharaoh hounds very very smart and athletic dogs they need almost constant stimulation and exorcise and they are friendly even with strangers :)

  • Anubis. Nicely thought name, mines name is Osiris he only bows for me but I think its clever to name them after the pharaohs.

  • @OsirisBows Osiris isn't a pharaoh, he's the God of the dead. :P The pharaoh of the Gods I think is Ra. Egyptian mythology is extremely confusing, I prefer Mesoamerican and Norse to be honest.

  • I'm looking to get another dog in a few years, and my mom said before I do I have to research some. I was looking to get an old english sheepdog, but my only concern with them is their eye problems. My second choice is a pharoh hound, but I was wondering if they have any known health problems.

  • @DecemberWolf107 they do have health problems, and you might not know about it until it's too late like with my first. He was the son of the Best of Breed at the time and we still don't know what caused his deterioration.

The one I have now has had seizures. We don't know what is causing that either. Pharaoh Hounds aren't free of disease or illness.

  • It's funny, 'cause I want to have this dog.. And with the same name..:) Btw. he's really cool. :)

  • THESE AE SUCH AWSOME DOGS :DDD

  • I'm confused, I know Eyqptians worshipped Greyhounds and I myself have a Greyhound. Are the origins of this dog Eygptian as well?

  • @xxxTayaRoisxxx no it is Maltese ( from Malta )

  • I heard that this breed is rare...is this true?

  • @ps2ps3gamer yesbut in malta it is it is common as it is a Maltese dog ( a dog from malta) we call it kelb tal-fenek

  • he's cool. i bet he's so fast.

sometimes if you grab an animal by the back of the neck, they think they under attack. i just learned this, so i'm trying to see, with my cats, when they think it's an attack or a massage. bye.

  • @benjie414 my cats dont think that am im attacking them when i grab their scruff of the neck,. They are aware that they have done something to upset me and yeah. They dont feel threatened about it only my lil kitten nero kinda thrashes a lil but its cuz he is young and dont know my rules and ways of the household yet.

  • Are they born to have the ears like that?

  • Pleas join Pharaoh Hounds / Klieb tal-fenek on FB

  • I have a pharoah and i was wondering if you know if there is a black pharoah because mine is black!!

  • @LovinBristol57 If you have a black Pharaoh, it means that it was cross-bred with another breed with black coloring. But actual Pharaoh hound are all red with some white markings on the chest, face, and sometimes tips of toes and tails.

  • Anubis was the name of the underworld and afterlife god in ancient Egypt

  • The Pharaoh hound is the national dog of Malta.

  • WOW - what a beautiful and smart doggie you have :)

OF COURSE his name is anubis ;-P

  • Pharoh Hounds are so pretty! Is it true that they blush when they're excited?

  • @kishichanX3 Yup- very true! Their nose, around their eyes, and the insides of theirs ears turn bright red- especially when dreaming! :)

  • OMG

    Love the name!!!!!!!!!!!

  • These Originated in Malta (for those that do not know its an island South of Sicily and North of Libya) Malta has several very old temples which are older than the pyramids and the egyptian civilization might be correlated or ascended from civilizations that inhabited Malta around 10kyears ago. This means that the god Anubis in the egyptian culture might have originated from the dogs that inhabited Malta thousands of years ago, as other animals were venerated too (like ox), this dog was praised

  • This dog is called a Kelb Tal-Fenek, it's a maltese farming dog.

  • @DanielCBAValaitis no, Kelb Tal-Fenek means "rabbit dog". They are for hunting rabbits

  • What a beautiful dog! I love the name! It is perfect for the breed. He is such a gorgeous dog!

  • how much r these dogs

  • @jameswebb01231991I don't know going prices now, but a few years ago they ranged from about $800 for companions and around $1200 for show quality.

  • I want a Pharaoh Hound SOOO BAD!! Did you get him at a rescue or a breeder? If you got him a breeder can you please tell me if you have a referrel? Cause I cant find any where I live ):

  • @XxXJoshRgXxX I got him near Portland, OR. I had to fly in and get him. The breeder is Nefer-Temu Kennels. :)

  • Comment removed

  • one of the breeds I'm interested in getting once I have the time. Beautiful breed, but smart too.

  • ....Damn it. I've wanted a pharaoh hound since I was in Elementary ....and I wanted to name it anubis , now i feel like i have to schoose a different name lol

  • @VillainousPuma Don't worry- you can still do it!! There are quite a few owners who end up naming their Pharaoh Anubis.... but no one will know :)

  • those ears are really cool

  • I find these dogs to be absolutely gogerous! Actually wanna have one in my story, could you give me some charastic traits of the dog?

  • @nikigurl08 They are very intelligent, full of energy, and extremely family-oriented. Running and chasing are their 2 favorite things, and they are very eager to please. :)

  • hes sooo darn cute

  • so cute!!

  • fucking love your dog! im getting a puppy in January been waiting since i was 14 to get a Pharaoh Hound.

can i ask how often you run with it though? most places say i have to run with my him at least 5 times a week. :) thanks

  • @dcdh101 Thanks! :) I'm glad to hear you were able to find a pup! Ours gets his exercise by running on our property. We let him "go to the back" and he can run around forever until he gets too tired to run anymore. LOL If you don't have room for him to run, I would highly suggest taking him out for a run at LEAST 5 times a week.... maybe once a day if you can. They have SOOOO much energy, and definitely need to be able to get it all out!

  • I used to have one! But he died from breast cancer (Im not kidding guys) Put to sleep.

RIP Vickont. ♥ My family will always miss you beautiful creature.

  • @Teencat Aww... I'm sorry to hear. I'm sure he will be waiting for you!! :)

  • how much do they cost roughly?

  • @CursedExileUnltd I'm not sure what they are running nowadays, but you can probably expect to pay $1000, +/- $200

  • how the fk have u done that!!! my pharaoh is 5 and as mad as a hatter lol has no self control at all, just giggles at the prospect of doing something like that haha

  • @stugibear19 Hahahaha!! I know what you mean!! :D Anubis is mad, too- but somehow I've taught him well. I think it was cause I started training EARLY! LOL

  • Good doggie.

  • Where did you get him? I really want one and haven't really found any breeders.

  • @a11ie I got him from Nefer-Temu Kennels in Portland, OR.

  • @a11ie you can easily get one from Malta

  • So cute! What a beauty he is!! The wave at the end was just precious!!!

  • @ZbmwM5 Thank you!! :)

  • Anubis is an awesome name for an pharaoh hound XD i love how well trained he is, if everyone trained their dogs as good as that, there would probably be a lot less "bite incidents" :(

  • @ravengurl100 Thank you for your kind words :) And yes, I do agree... if people would actually just devote more time to their dogs, it would make a world of a difference.

  • My friend breeds these beautiful dogs, when I first saw them I was hooked, he also breeds Dobermans too and his family has been breeding them for I think four generations. I have to get abck on you about it, he has 3 golden brown coloured one like your doggy Anubis and 4 raven black ones. His 3 year old black Pharaoh Hound is named Anubis too and a brown one named Cleopatrea.

  • @KoboshiBlackClaw I've always wondered what a black PH would look like (even if it's not their biological color) :)

  • @missgreenbtm he crossed them with on controled breeding to get one even though he's not full blooded people still wanted to pay top dollar for one. :)

  • yeah, he is beautiful, and calm. but with a name like Anubis, I need to see this dog with a full black coat!!!

  • What a beautiful dog. Definitely my next dog. I already have two dogs so I'll have to wait because my husband wont let me have another one.

  • @brrtown Awesome! You will love it! :D

  • smart :D

  • beautiful dog

  • @AlecseySisk Thank you!

  • pharao dogs are indeed very rare you cant find a pharao dog that easy

and they need a lot of space and must be atleast 4 times a day outside

  • They are awesome! Anubis was a perfect name for him! Wish I had a Pharaoh too.

  • omg i want one of these but i cant find them anywhere. are they rare???

  • Well, the breeders of the Pharaoh son't like to over-breed, and definitely don't want the Pharaoh to enter the "mainstream" and be exposed to over-breeding and irresponsibility. They are a pretty tight-knit group of people, and you're likely to have to get on a waiting list for puppies, as well as fill out a large sum of papers making sure you'll be a great fit for a Pharaoh. That being said- it IS possible to get one, but you will need to be pretty serious to be successful.

  • He is very pretty+well trained!! i have a 4 yr old male Pharaoh named Vanilla. he is 26 inches tall+wieghs 65 lbs. his fav thing 2 do is his Obedience trials every month. he is very good+Pharaohs r smart!! just look at urs+mine!!!

    take care+Beautiful dog!!

  • What a cute name for a Pharaoh. :) Mine is about the same size... big boys! Thanks for the compliments. You should post some obedience videos! :)

  • I just got a 2-yr. old P.H. from a breeder in NY. She didn't like the show ring so rehomed her as a pet. She's a sweet dog; I have 2 other dogs too. One of them ignores her and the other one is being a brat. My mom told me the brat is acting exactly like I did when she brought my brother home from the hospital. Now I understand why he feels the way he does...

  • Beautiful dog.

  • love your video, and the history not to you but of the breed...awsome to see breeders of this kind...thankyou,,,

  • aah, i forgot

is this kind goof for guarding ??

or he is just a hunter ??

i saw pictures of him on tombs in luxor hunting animals, and i saw a pic where he was hunting a lion with a hunter. AWESOME

  • uuuuu rrrrrr suuuuuuperrrrr, u and your dog, am egyptian, and i reaaaaaallyyyy wish to keep a dog like this, i was doin some researches on ancient Egyptian dogs,

how did u get him, have u been to egypt ?

where can i find one like this?

    plz answer back plz plz

    ahmed.3omda@ hotm. is my email

    plz answer asap

    saluts :)

  • I got him from a breeder here in the US. Pharaohs are great for hunting and guarding as well. Were bred to hunt rabbit, so they are very quick and agile.

  • They also tend to DIG quite a bit, hunting rabbits is no easy task if their held up in their borrow.

Great name too, if you say "Shred 'em up Anubis!" then anyone who knows about Ancient Egyption Gods will surely run in terror. God of the Afterlife for a reason too... *killing is his business and business is good*

  • Haha.. yeah, definitely able to dig. He loves to catch squirrels, opossums, 'coons, etc. etc. I always wanted to name my Pharaoh Anubis... although I bet many others are named the same- I still love it. :)

  • How did you train him? I hear they are difficult to train. I ask because I am going to get a male in about 4 weeks.

  • Buy the book "The Art of Raising a Puppy". Also, it will take ALOT of patience and repeating, but they are very eager to please so it won't be too bad! Just make sure you are very consistent!!

  • Thanks I will look into that. I am just worried because I have classes in the middle of the day so house training might be a little difficult. I also see your dog has the mark so does mine.

  • hello assy07, the brred might have originated in Egypt / Eastern mediterrenean, but it was later isolated only to the islands of Malta and Gozo from where they started being exported in the 1960s, initially to Britain.

  • those dogs are not easy to get because of the kennel crap who is the officials of the dog they dont just give them out which is annoying but i can fix that ill breed them myself

  • haha he is pretty, where did u get him, i've been trying to get a Pharaoh for the past month lol

  • Nefer Temu Kennels :)

  • lol so i was looking into the site and i saw Anubis's parents haha he was in the Moon Litter : )

  • such a good name for an egyptian dog :P

  • the breed actually lived only on the islands of Malta and Gozo for centuries ;)

  • Do you know how long it takes them to grow into an adult?

  • The Pharaoh Hound is a breed of dog, a hound which has at times been classified as a member of the sighthound group, yet its fieldwork description clearly determines it as a hound.

  • sooo good! what a handsome guy :D

  • I love these dogs. He's such a beauty.

  • My Pharaoh hound Tabia is standing next to me at my office watching this intently wagging her tail!

  • Pharoh hounds are VERY smart dogs..

  • @joi1900 i have one their very very smart

  • lol hes so cute^^

  • Hahahaha--- you know- the name Pharaoh is awesome though! I like the ring to it-- LOL! Thanks!

  • Im gonna get one some day. Boy or girl I dont care the names going to be Pharaoh. XD

And OMFG Anubis is so cute!

  • i heard this breed are good runners is that true? i need a running companion.

  • Yes! They LOVE to run. I'm pretty sure that's their favorite thing to do! :)

  • can you post up a video of when they blush?!

  • Sure! The next time he does, I'll be sure to try and catch it on video. Usually, he blushes when he's dreaming, wakes up from sleeping, or gets excited. I'll do my best! :)

  • What this dog can blush?

  • how did you teach him the wave? tx.

  • Well, we started with a paw shake and developed it into a high five. Then, we started backing away further and further until he just did the wave! :)

  • what a great dog! and a great owner!

  • Anubis is gorgeous. :) Cute tricks, he seems like a wonderful dog.

  • Aww, thanks! :)

  • I'm serious, plz i must own a beautiful ph

  • where can i get 1?plz i need to know!!!

  • They are a pretty rare breed, and so breeders in the US are not very numerous. Planned litters are spaced out and usually there is a waiting list. If I were you, I would go to google and search for Pharaoh Hound Breeders... they have websites where you can contact them and see upcoming litters.

  • i find that torture for dogs. all my dog only learned 3 main commands (sit, stay, out) XD haha other than that my dog is my is just my companion.

    ps.

im not saying what you do is bad. i just dont do it

  • LOL- well I can assure you that my dog is not tortured :) Pharaohs are REALLLLLY eager to please... so many of the tricks came very naturally. He usually does does his tricks even before I tell him to! Haha... anyway, thanks for the comment. :)

  • cool cool no problem. im a dog person myself, but im only into mix breeds. idk why i think its cuz you'll never find a dog like it

  • 可爱哦。

  • 谢谢!

  • What a gorgeous dog. I'm starting to look for another dog, and I think a Pharaoh Hound might be the one. They look absolutely wonderful. Do you do any obedience with him? I have a dobie who I show in obedience and flyball and we both love it.

  • Thank you- and you're right- they are definitely wonderful! Very eager to please and intelligent, so they make wonderful dogs to train. I have done some obedience with him, but where Pharaohs really have fun is agility and lure coursing. Either way- they will love it and be great at it!

  • What a truly beautiful dog. I am thinking of either getting a PH or a whippet. At the moment we have a patterdale terrier (maybe crossed with whippet but not sure) and I was wondering if the breed gets on well with most other dogs. We have plenty of space for exercise and a loving family who would most certainly give any new dog tons and tons of attention! We also have cats and sheep and I was wondering again if you know how a PH would react? Are they good to train?

  • As long as they are raised as a pup along with the other animals, they should do just fine. They do, however, have a STRONG instinct to hunt and chase, so make sure to put extra energy into socially training them around the other animals. They are very willing to please and extremely intelligent, so yes- great to train, but it must be done properly and repeatedly. The most useful command I use is "Leave It", and he responds and knows that command very well. I would suggest it for any PH owner!

  • He's a gorgeous dog and cute tricks!

  • Aww he is so adorable! I've wanted a Pharaoh for a while now. The blush is too cute

  • They are very sweet and incredibly handsome. I wanted a Pharaoh since I was 14 and finally got him 2 years ago- he's everything I thought he would be and more. :)

  • are they a good breed?

  • I love the breed and think they are fantastic-- but definitely not for everyone. They require lots of activity and feel they MUST be involved with everything the family does- not an "outside only" dog, for sure. :)

  • Beautiful boy! How old is he? Mine is 8 months and not that patient while he's doing what tricks he knows, haha!

  • Thanks! :) He just turned 2 on November 16th... but I must say- at 8 mos old he was not that patient for sure! LOL
