great song one of my fav u2 songs but cant help thinking he put up the video just to put his fav song on it . not that bothers me but the pictures of the sun are just well average
Thanks for putting this up. Amazing song and I love to blast it full volume ----- and sometimes that even isn't loud enough! Saw them perform this live in Florida, what a fantastic performance!
How good did it feel to find the UF 12" single contained both this & Love Comes Tumbling, cos I never did get the Wide Awake EP for myself.Still have said 12" at home somewhere.Like Spanish Eyes, they do have some great B sides
One of the great things about The Edge is that his guitar work is so simple, straight forward. That's not an insult. He gets the most out of each chord he rips! :D Great song! Thanks for posting it :)
@Papatauenga...Edge is one of those few players where you hear three notes and you immediately know it's him. Like Knopfler, SRV, Jimmy Page, Jerry Garcia etc.
The Edge probably has a lot to do with it... It's just so unique, I don't think I've heard him so frenetic elsewhere (at least yet).
Man the Unforgettable Fire is another of my favourites. I didn't know they were coupled. If I start going after some singles, it'll be one of the first. (And yeah, already got 1980-90 w/ the B-Sides.)
One of my favorite U2 songs....there are many, but this in is my top 5 and thats saying alot!! But this is a powerful, fantastic song!! It goes well with Love Comes Tumbling, which is on the same EP. Along with Bad (live) and A Sort of Homecoming (live), 1985's Wide Awake In America is probably the greatest EP ever!!!
@ KittichanU2: what a wonderful video....thanks!! Your pictures along side '3 Sunrises' is absolutely majestic!! I can now say I've attained peace of mind!!
This has always been my favorite U2 song..just breathtaking songwriting, vocals, musicianship & music & lyrics with a spirit and joy that's mssing from their current music..and was so brilliant back when they still had their own "unforgettable fire". Thanks for sharing this..BTW, I bought the "Unforgettable Fire" on vinyl and wore it out...great & timeless record.
evening U2 fans. this is a classic U2 song that didn't make the final unforgettable fire list. you can see & hear bono & edge rehearsing this song on the U2 go home dvd which includes the making of the unforgettable fire. the demo doesn't have what we know as the final product. bono starts to sing and folds his arms and then laughs. this song demo was done in 1984 while they where in slane castle. questions or comments?
@misterlypton Well, because the Joshua tree was like the TOP. And then there was that "ACHTUNG BABY" which was YEARS ahead of its time. And then...They got bored and started hired a DJ and then BOB GELDOF kidnapped Bono to AFRICA and he came back and was never the same!!!
I've been listening to U2 since 1982, and for some reason this is still my favourite track of all time by the lads from Dublin. Edge at his hardest, edgiest. Very nice vocal harmonies. Thanks so much for posting this and your video, KittiC.
And that's a strong statement because I LOVE THESE GUYS. I wish one day to feel and hear the music the way you all do even more intense if possible? LOVE YOU ALL PEACE, GOD BLESS All YOU U2 fans. It's fans out there like each and everyone of you that make this U2 experience a dream come true cause you no what without YOU this wouldn't be possible.Your apart of this great powerful engine which runs strong. The "fuel", so give yourselves a pat on the back better yet hug and say thank you I LOVE YOU
A while back in a much music interview and the band too makes no bones about it often has said that it's not about them "the band" but their music is about ALL the fans.Thought that was so sweet and genuine.Only angels could say such a thing.Their music is designed to reach out and comfort all.inspire and touch your heart . amazing songs like this are proof.I wish I had half the passion and love that a lot of you die hard fans throughout central and South America and African countries have!
I could be wrong but from my experience the U2 fans throughout South America and Africa are so passionate and love U2 it seems stronger than other parts of the world.I think the music resonates and hits home stronger in these regions because of the harsh conditions : poverty, economic, political, religious etc. having less can often make people appreciate things more and it ties into their upbringing suffering & adverse conditions they were faced with, music that can easily relate too........
u2 is so special to me there will NEVER! be another band that will come along that will do it for me quite the way they do.Thank you God for blessing me and the rest of U2 fans with their music.I'm so appreciative.Love you God :)
Great song, U2 seem to have a habit of burying their best work in b-sides and limited editions. I recall the album Wide Awake In America being a low priced and subtly marketed attempt to flood out the pirated albumns doing the rounds at the time.
1969Gigi, I just saw your comments now apon scrolling down the list (sigh) .Your in my thoughts and prayers buddy. I don't know if your still around or if you'll ever get this message? The good Lord will make sure somehow...I lost my father to cancer 5 years ago and think about him all the time(reminiscing about good 'ol times)Music can be very powerful and a great motivational tool, great for uplifting the soul. That's the beautiful effect that this great band U2 has on so many.love you buddy G.B
If I remember, U2 had two albums before this came out: Boy and Unforgettable Fire. Three Sunrises came out in 1985 on a short album that, if I remember, was not a huge hit but it had a long version of Bad that was incredible.
I got this CD LONG ago and scratched it all up and had to get rid of it. It also had the extended version of BAD, Love Comes Tumbling, I forget the other lol. Beautiful dong. I want this played at my wake. (Cancer patient).
Fluoride makes teeth and bones brittle, impairs brain function and increases docility. It is a byproduct of aluminium production that would otherwise be classified as toxic waste and does not belong in toothpaste or drinking water. Then again, neither does arsenic, but I digress.
I just realized that no U2 song from 1984 to 1985 actually says the name of the song in the song. "A Sort of Homecoming", "Bass Trap", "The Unforgettable Fire", "Bad", all great songs by the way
that is so true! i went through a mad u2 craze a while back, started by a Friends episode where they played "with or without you", and my friends were completely disinterested. so i started playing u2 in the background for a week when theywer all over, and every song repeated at least twice, they would be humming along to, and id find on their ipods eventually. u2 is not catchy tunes u love and discard; they get better with every listen. nd the better the cd, the more listens u need. ie: NLOTH
i completely agree!!! the first time I was listening to NLOTH i wasn't all that impressed, but i kept on listening and i began to like some of the stronger tracks like 1,2,5,6, and 10. But now i love all of them equally. :) i'm actually in the middle of a "u2 craze" as you put it! i just got their very 1st album and love it. any recommendations as to which album i get next???
Oh, totally! Basically, everything they've got is heavenly. My personal favorite is Achtung baby, which I thought was complete NOISE at first. It is ... BRILLIANT. And then.. I dono, just youtube them madly, and whatever day whatever song sticks out to you, track down that cd. So far though, Achtung Baby is the ONE cd that I adore every siiinngle track on. But all their old albums are brilliant. joshua tree.. a classic. youtube "rattle and hum; exit" listen to the guitar when it gets rlly quiet
Your journey will be incomplete without Unforgettable Fire. The album came out in 1984 and propelled the band to superstardom. The songs rang from intense rock to sad ballads to haunting hymns. Listen to every song with an open mind and you will be glad you took the trip. Enjoy.
One of my all-time favorite U2 songs (there are sooo many good ones to choose from). The chorus just soars...best word I can think of is "transcendent."
I think if you drop "Elvis Presley and America" off UT (which should have been a B side at best), and put the wonderful "Three Sunrises" in its place, you then have the greatest U2 album.
U2---> Best Christian Rock Band EVER! .....even if they obviously aren't strictly ONLY that... THIS ONE is utterly washed in the blood...and makes the heart just SOAR!!!!
I really loved the wide awake in america ep, bad and a sort of homecoming live, and this and love comes tumbling down. 4 fabulous songs! the bass on this one is especially aweseom.
but, on pop, there are songs like if god, gone, miami and do you feel loved where the bass is good. But I have to agree that on the unforgettable fire, there are songs like pride, wire and bad where the bass is also very good. Adam rocks!!
I listened to Pop once. U2 lost me there, Not like an abandoned child, but more like a friend that I'll always treasure yet never be that close to again. The Unforgettable Fire period was my favorite.
I agree, UF was my favorite period too, andI think if you swap "Elvis" for "Three Sunrises" (as I described in another posting to this thread), that then becomes my alltime favorite U2 album.
One reason I like the new album so much is that it reminds me of a cross between UF and JT (with a little AB thrown in here and there). I hope "Songs of Ascent" continues the sound and they continue to let Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois have a large influence in shaping the haunting ambience.
Completely agree with you on the Pop part. "If you were that velvet dress" is such an amazing song... "Please" could be one of my most-liked U2 song... So moving... Really under-rated.
to be honest I don't get what you mean......................
this is my name on the internet, because I have a real life, too and I will save my REAL name in the REAL world, ok?
if you think it's better to stick to your real name than that's your opinion, but I don't mind if nobody knows who I am, because I don't do this for profit or to get famous.
thanks a lot for posting this. I have the album Wide Awake in America and this song is never played anywhere. It is really uplifting. You made my day.
@Heir01: I want anonymity when disagreeing, commenting on politics,religion,etc.. Reasonably. I should be able to offer my REAL view on theism, for ex., w/out worrying whether Bill my Christian boss agrees. Doesn't mean I don't stand behind mine; only that I recognize words here are FOREVER, viewable by anyone, anytime. Must they be attributable to be valid? Why have to water opinions down? (Thankfully, James Madison didn't!) So.. just use JUDGMENT when assigning value to a YouTube comment??
I've always liked this song. I think I read somewhere that it was no be on TUF but it sounded too different from the album. I guess I would have to agree. I wish the Edge still played his guitar with that scratchy sound that was around this era (e.g. also Pride and Wire).
I sit at my pc drinking beers and think of old songs i havn't heard in years:)So much thanks for putting this here.I have it on 3 inch vinal but no record player!!!
hah! just like me. I just wanted the Best Of 1980-1990 CD call my own and I found the one with B-Sides... I guess that was the beginning of my B-Side obsession ^^
it's called Pleißa ("ß" is a German letter, it means the same like "ss") and is pretty much in the middle of nowhere in Germany. if you go to google maps, watch out for Chemnitz ^^
This song has such an amazing energy... When I wake up early feeling tired, I use to listen this song ´cause it makes me feel happy and bring back my energy...
I just LOVE this song and the video is beautiful, for me a sunrise is the most beautiful natural inspiring event. Well done KittichanU2 :) Best band in the world EVER!
waaaitt a minute i've been a huge u2 fan for years and i didn't know they made a video for this song!i just knew they released a mini lp[or whatever they were called) just before the unforgettable fire.thanks Schroppyo.i've got to try and find it.and thanks KittichanU2,those pictures are really nice.the song rocks and the pictures are relaxing at the same time.that doesn't work very often.
"wide awake in america"(the mini lp thingy)was actually released after "the unforgettable fire",my fault.i'll try and find it,but if anyone else finds it first don't be shy.Put It Up!!!oh and would them performing it in the studio count???personally i don't like those kind. :p
U2 Rocks! I had never heard that before except for the snippet of the guitar hook on The Unforgettable Fire Documentary. I knew it was familar! Thank you that was beautiful!
How lucky u r to see these and capture the beauty of the rising sun. I appreciate your work, your video is awesome. I love the photos and look forward to more sunrise videos.

TheSarcasticShow 2 years ago
Interesting observation. But actually the song "Pride (In the Name of Love)" uses both "Pride" and of course "In the Name of Love" in the lyrics.
"Early morning, April 4
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your PRIDE...
In the name of love
What more in the name of love "
etc, etc, you know the rest :-)

You dpn't hear pop once. you'll only hear it when you listen to it a few more times. I hated it, and now it's my third favourite album by U2.
AdyPole 2 years ago
I agree, UF was my favorite period too, andI think if you swap "Elvis" for "Three Sunrises" (as I described in another posting to this thread), that then becomes my alltime favorite U2 album.
One reason I like the new album so much is that it reminds me of a cross between UF and JT (with a little AB thrown in here and there). I hope "Songs of Ascent" continues the sound and they continue to let Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois have a large influence in shaping the haunting ambience.

Pop is amazing. If God..., Staring at the, Gone, Sun, Playboy Mansion, Velvet Dress, Please. Such and underrated and under appreciated album.
But yeah Adam is wicked on UF and I think he's awesome on NLOTH as well.
Hallucination 2 years ago 3

I wish the Edge still played his guitar with that scratchy sound that was around this era (e.g. also Pride and Wire).

hah! just like me. I just wanted the Best Of 1980-1990 CD call my own and I found the one with B-Sides... I guess that was the beginning of my B-Side obsession ^^

Think this was from a mini ep thing they did in 1985. Had this tune, Bad, A sort of homecoming, and Love comes tumbling.

it's called Pleißa ("ß" is a German letter, it means the same like "ss") and is pretty much in the middle of nowhere in Germany. if you go to google maps, watch out for Chemnitz ^^
