This newswoman said that was Air Force one as the E-4 command post was being shown. Do people know the difference. I used to provide the security for that plane at Offutt. Andrews was the base for the E-4 as well. But AF0ne has two tones of blue and is shown in this clip sitting on the tarmack. Just wanted to clarify.

When responding to a Klaxon (alert siren) the name is given to only those that have "need to know". We used Silverdollar at one time. It was a mobile command station from STRATCOM that sent out with Air Force One from Offutt AFB, Nebraska. Offutt AFB was key to much of the success with responding to the attacks and landing air traffic and securing radio contact with only important mission information.
This plane is not equipped with any weapons but does have extensive counter measures. It is always prepared for launch at Offutt.

The E-4B "Doomsday" plane was original built, well...for doomsday, like 9-11. The reason for its white color is to make it look like any other oridianary plane. It was flying around the White House to make sure it was still safe for the president(Bush) to return to at Andrew's Air Force Base, even though the white house is a no-fly zone-even for the president himself. I may be right or wrong, but all I do know is that on 9-11, that plane WAS headed for the White House.

If the President was on a single-engine cessna it would be called Air Force 1. It is a name given to the plane in which the President is flying. Yes, the "nice shiny blue nosed plane" is normally AF1, but not then- Bush was on the E-4B, which was given the name AF1 as soon as he stepped on board.
If the President was on this plane shown taking off (E4-B) NAOC then it is deamed call sign ( Air Force 1). What's the problem here? A) The powers that were supposed to stop it knew about it and were preparing for it, and the catastrophe came sooner than expected.

The E-4B is stationed at offut AFB. Their were contigency plans and other plans to be followed as to the immediate course of action in the event of a national emergency, and the pentagon or other national military command structure was attacked or destroyed. The E-4B went up because it was a national emegency and a 2nd command plane needed to be in the air incase something happened to Air Force One.

? That is Air Force One at 0:22 and the first shot is an E-4 AACP. Just note the color scheme and the pod on the top of the aircraft taking off. Sadly if you wanted the enemy to not know which large aircraft to take out in the event of an invasion, I would not have chosen the design with a distinctive bulge on the top. I would have made it out of a standard Boeing design with a standard color from an airline company or the gray scheme from the KC-10.

@jdmifsud14 From this video, yes, and the E-4B clearly has distinct, different and non-uniform colouration at the front and tail ends. It also begins to be shown at 0:22, not 0:27. AF 1 has a uniform colour tail to nose. Oddly though, if AF1 is indeed the first plane shown, then we see a pod on top of it, while not seeing this on the E-4B, which I've read about being among the very few planes to have electronic communication pods on top of them. I also read that E-4B's are all white.

And the title given by femr2 for this video is about the E-4B taking off, but the video doesn't show anything of the kind. It shows AF 1 in flight, just after take-off, but we don't see the E-4B leaving the ground, or even moving at all. And based on the colour and the pod on top, the plane reported as AF 1 looks more like the E-4B. Check Wikipedia.

Two misunderstandings: 1) I had understood or misunderstood jdmifsud14 as saying that the E-4B is the plane seen at 0:27, so I additionally commented for this reason. 2) The reason for my first post is because as we see the E-4B taking off at the start of the clip, the news reporters are talking about Bush being in AF1 and I would not normally think he'd be sitting for long in it once it's on the ground. I know plenty about the E-4B and almost nothing about AF1.

No need to worry though, for as said in my reply to you above, I know enough about the E-4B. People can check the Wikipedia page for this, but even here at Youtube there are several good videos that are clear about what plane is shown. This video wasn't clear and you could have added a brief word to to be clear for everyone.

@lrossi888 I wasn't sure to recall if the reporter said that the plane was AF 1, but just replayed the start of the clip and the reporter clearly says it's AF 1. Maybe she hadn't, and perhaps still hasn't, learned about the E-4B and that it's the sole plane to have the pod on top, or the sole U.S. plane to have this. The two planes do look very similar, but there are some differences that are immediately viewable; the pod on top, and the stripe and lack of it on the side of the plane(s), f.e.

Anyway, I thought you were saying that the E-4B is seen at 0:27 and this is what had me really doubtful and guessing ... After all, everything I had read about the E-4B says it's entirely white, besides the stripe and some light grey in front of the cockpit; plus the pod on top, etcetera. I am a former "doomsay" aircrew member. The reason the E4 was seen at multiple places was that all 4 were participating in an military exercise. I have flown for 11 years on that jet and been mistaken for AF1 many times. Yes, any aircraft that the president flies on becomes AF1. And NO we cant be anywere in 20min, if it was so I would not have logged over 1700 hours of flight time.

This newswoman said that was Air Force one as the E-4 command post was being shown. Do people know the difference. I used to provide the security for that plane at Offutt. Andrews was the base for the E-4 as well. But AF0ne has two tones of blue and is shown in this clip sitting on the tarmack. Just wanted to clarify.

@reluctable Yes, for base ops flight records purpose. But depending on who is aboard and what flight configuration they are flying it changes. When responding to a Klaxon (alert siren) the name is given to only those that have "need to know". We used Silverdollar at one time. If one or more of the 13 generals that were stationed at Offutt that normally manned the Loooking Glass sorties it was "stars on stage". Even the helo that he flies in is Army one or Marine one. I was close-in sentry and I didnt even know until I was given the manifest at the time of the alert. And no one can tell you now because it changes by the second. THere were two E-4s at the end of the flight line and one was always "cocked" ready to go. The other two were at Andrews.

@ltmcknight Not even close to being right or make sense. All aircraft have the abiltiy to navigate whenever they want. You punch the coordinated location in the navigation equipment, and it tells you just like the simpler car ones do. Turn left 20 degrees for this many minutes and so on.

It was a mobile command station from STRATCOM that sent out with Air Force One from Offutt AFB, Nebraska. Offutt AFB was key to much of the success with responding to the attacks and landing air traffic and securing radio contact with only important mission information.
This plane is not equipped with any weapons but does have extensive counter measures. It is always prepared for launch at Offutt.
STRATCOM also had a large part with the war games on September 11th,

The E-4B "Doomsday" plane was original built, well...for doomsday, like 9-11. The reason for its white color is to make it look like any other oridianary plane. It was flying around the White House to make sure it was still safe for the president(Bush) to return to at Andrew's Air Force Base, even though the white house is a no-fly zone-even for the president himself. I may be right or wrong, but all I do know is that on 9-11, that plane WAS headed for the White House.

If the President was on a single-engine cessna it would be called Air Force 1. It is a name given to the plane in which the President is flying. Yes, the "nice shiny blue nosed plane" is normally AF1, but not then- Bush was on the E-4B, which was given the name AF1 as soon as he stepped on board.

If the President was on this plane shown taking off (E4-B) NAOC then it is deamed call sign ( Air Force 1). What's the problem here? Oh and for you nut jobs that can't figure out how that plane could be "20 Minutes" from any scene, well there is more than 1 NAOC brid. I won't say how many but there is more than 1. NAOC is absoloutly the 1 bird in America you would always expect in the sky. The only reason this bird comes down is to gas and change crews. :)

@Jameski07...this used to be true, however, recently they changed from always having 1 bird in the air, to always having 1 bird on the ground with an alert crew ready. After 9-11 they were airborn constantly for a period of time, but now they continue to simply keep an alert crew on the ready. 35 years and counting of proud alert service!!!

OK well this is just a thought about the relavence as evidence. To be clear and honest I know something isnt right about 9/11 or its aftermath... know it. However the day of the tragedy NORAD was conducting mock drills of the same event. let me elaborate, When the WTC was hit, the military and FEMA were conducting an excercise about the WTC and the Pentagon being hit by an airliner. these facts are not disputed, frankly these E4-bs are evidence of that. @420budgod The idea that mock excercises of the event was going on is more beguiling than anything else. It suggests one or both of the following...
A) The powers that were supposed to stop it knew about it and were preparing for it, and the catastrophe came sooner than expected.
B) The powers that be knew it was going to happen when it happened and wanted to minimize casualties, hardly believable since Chenney gave a stand down order.
Then there is option C. They needed it to happen.

The E-4B is stationed at offut AFB. Their were contigency plans and other plans to be followed as to the immediate course of action in the event of a national emergency, and the pentagon or other national military command structure was attacked or destroyed. The E-4B went up because it was a national emegency and a 2nd command plane needed to be in the air incase something happened to Air Force One.

? That is Air Force One at 0:22 and the first shot is an E-4 AACP. Just note the color scheme and the pod on the top of the aircraft taking off. Sadly if you wanted the enemy to not know which large aircraft to take out in the event of an invasion, I would not have chosen the design with a distinctive bulge on the top. I would have made it out of a standard Boeing design with a standard color from an airline company or the gray scheme from the KC-10.

@jdmifsud14 From this video, yes, and the E-4B clearly has distinct, different and non-uniform colouration at the front and tail ends. It also begins to be shown at 0:22, not 0:27. AF 1 has a uniform colour tail to nose. Oddly though, if AF1 is indeed the first plane shown, then we see a pod on top of it, while not seeing this on the E-4B, which I've read about being among the very few planes to have electronic communication pods on top of them. I also read that E-4B's are all white.

@jdmifsud14 Again, you say the E-4B is the plane shown at 0:27, though it begins to be shown at 0:22. And the title given by femr2 for this video is about the E-4B taking off, but the video doesn't show anything of the kind. It shows AF 1 in flight, just after take-off, but we don't see the E-4B leaving the ground, or even moving at all. And based on the colour and the pod on top, the plane reported as AF 1 looks more like the E-4B. Check Wikipedia.

@mikecorbeil Rubbish. See that bump on the top of the fuselage ? E-4B. Have a wild guess at what the bump contains. AF1 is the nice shiny aircraft with the blue nosecone....on the ground.

@femr2 Bs. Two misunderstandings: 1) I had understood or misunderstood jdmifsud14 as saying that the E-4B is the plane seen at 0:27, so I additionally commented for this reason. 2) The reason for my first post is because as we see the E-4B taking off at the start of the clip, the news reporters are talking about Bush being in AF1 and I would not normally think he'd be sitting for long in it once it's on the ground. I know plenty about the E-4B and almost nothing about AF1.

@femr2 That URL does not work and trying to load the homepage also does not work. In both Firefox and Opera, I get the "Let Me Google That For You" search page at Google. No need to worry though, for as said in my reply to you above, I know enough about the E-4B. People can check the Wikipedia page for this, but even here at Youtube there are several good videos that are clear about what plane is shown. This video wasn't clear and you could have added a brief word to to be clear for everyone.

@lrossi888 I wasn't sure to recall if the reporter said that the plane was AF 1, but just replayed the start of the clip and the reporter clearly says it's AF 1. Maybe she hadn't, and perhaps still hasn't, learned about the E-4B and that it's the sole plane to have the pod on top, or the sole U.S. plane to have this. The two planes do look very similar, but there are some differences that are immediately viewable; the pod on top, and the stripe and lack of it on the side of the plane(s), f.e.

@jdmifsud14 I looked for your original reply in which you mentioned the plane at 0:27 and nothing at any other time in the clip, but it seems you removed your post. Anyway, I thought you were saying that the E-4B is seen at 0:27 and this is what had me really doubtful and guessing ... After all, everything I had read about the E-4B says it's entirely white, besides the stripe and some light grey in front of the cockpit; plus the pod on top, etcetera. Other videos here show the same.

@photography66videos Air Force One is the name of the aircraft that the president is flying in at the time. For instance when President Bush flew on to the Abraham Lincoln the S-3B Viking he rode in on was basically Air Force One though I believe they called it Navy One since he was being flown by a naval aviator

I am a former "doomsay" aircrew member. The reason the E4 was seen at multiple places was that all 4 were participating in an military exercise. I have flown for 11 years on that jet and been mistaken for AF1 many times. Yes, any aircraft that the president flies on becomes AF1. And NO we cant be anywere in 20min, if it was so I would not have logged over 1700 hours of flight time.

@JamminWagon What aircrew position did you fly? I too, served on NAOC. I find it difficult to believe that all four aircraft could have been flying an exercise when one airframe was always scheduled to be in Programmed Depot Maintenance.
