  • Sorry haters. You have amateur ears. What an orgy of creativity. Holy crap.

  • love it :) shes so funny

  • ... i actually like this. yeah, it's bad but it's ridiculous in the kind of way that the Hollywood she's talking about is such a satyrical business.

  • Still love ya, Liz. Always will.

  • Lol this song blows

  • To be honest I always hated her work. I think her 1990s was tiresome, pretentious, and trite. Though I lived in Wicker Park at the same time as her and hated the entire crowd like Urge Overkill. So I put my bias on the table.

This song is total and utter shit. Its like a cheap rip off of Eminem, without her being able to rap. One wonders why she continues to humiliate herself and not just get a real job.

  • All you people bashing this song are missing out on the incredible wit. Besides, this isn't even a serious song. It's not like she's gonna rap for the rest of her career. You guys abandoned Liz when she decided to do pop-rock. She doesn't care about you anymore. Funstyle is for the fans that actually get her. Creative expression is more important than catering to loud bitches who want another Guyville.

  • Love the hitch hiker's guide to the galaxy reference..Liz is still awesome

  • OMG ive never heard something so aweful and brilliant at the same time. Liz Phair is a genious. LOL "MADE OF STONE!!!!!!"

  • Im a Liz Phair Guyville fan and I really like this, seriously her approach reminds me of her early material. Just Liz messin around and not having a set pattern to follow, hope this gets an official physical release even if just in indepedent stores.

  • A Great (but weird) song

  • Liz Phair is a genius

  • I'm guessing the people writing the mean comments are the teens who liked "Why Can't I?" and still haven't learned about satire. That's OK, they're trying.

  • great publishing houses of ursa minor. lol.

  • The style of this song reminds me of some of Frank Zappa's creative yet quirky work as a parady.

  • THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME

  • THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME

  • i think people that don't get this ...just don't get LIZ. This is all kinda Genius!

  • Eeeeek! She's channeling Tila Tequila. *puke* *gaaaaaat* *baaaarf*

  • some of you are horrible. she is a great artist who is just having fun and expressing herself. you think if she cared about how it sounds that she would release it? she went through a rough time and now she doesnt give a shit if people hate her. shes inspirational.

  • holy crap.... please... please.... never felt embarrased to listen to a song..

  • @NeoQuello It's meant to be a joke about her career.

  • @madeyes4u Or her career is become a joke? When you have to explain a song or a joke....

  • @NeoQuello holy crap you..im a huge liz phair fan and if u dont like it then listen elsewhere

  • o wow....just terrible haha

  • God awful

  • @blueshadowmoses What's so "God awful" about it, though? Really, not trying to bash your opinion (because everyone is entitled to one), but look below and read Childofiona's comment. He/she is totally right.

  • @madeyes4u She can't rap well, the words are extremely stupid, it sounds like a cheap rip-off of Eminem, the melody in annoying. But songs are like, well drugs, if 99 out of 100 people who take a pill fall asleep we call it a sleeping pill. We don't wonder about the innate properties as a sleeping pill. People really hate this song, and in the ends that really all there is in entertainment.

  • Wow, this is absolutely terrible. It makes me wonder which Liz Phair is the real one.

  • Whether or not you dig her music (and I think very few people are with her EVERY step of the way) you have to admit she's not afraid to take risks. From the explicitness of Exile to the teen pop sound of her s/t to this she's a wild card. I'm not a fan of everything she's done (beginning with this track) but I respect her for that.

  • Yea I have no idea what this is. But I too like the "why can't I?" liz....I have alot more opinions about how shes lucky she made a come back with that awesome album. Sure it was over produced, but it was awseome.

  • @xrockchild yeah, it was "overproduced" and "awesome", but it wasn't LIZ PHAIR. It was Liz trying to do exactly what she did...get a hit song.

  • Hell yes Liz I love you. Screw Capitol Records they can go fuck themselves. This record is brilliant and totally you. I"m not a fan of rap at all, but some how you made it work. I like the ending with the dark sounding to of Bollywood. Then the folkish sound of Smoke. Liz YOU have always impressed me and stick to what you believe in unlike these other crappy female singer songwriters. Hard core liz phair fan till the end. Can't wait for the tour dates :)

  • She's got a good voice and her earlier stuff was good, but this just shouldn't happen.

  • OK, Liz Phair is ridiculous. Ridiculously brilliant! She's obviously saying something here: Do I have to sound like shit to get people to listen to me? I love the "tablets...made of STONE" line. Relax people, she's clowning!

  • @childofiona Rock and Roll is a purely Capitalist activity, there is nothing else to it.

If it does not sell and it does not make money, its shit

  • why she did this to herself???

i was the number one Liz fan .but this is like she was seating having a shit and singing.

pointless waste of time to put out this songs.doenst pass any message,no feelings on it ......no wonder why she lost her record deal and her management.

Capitol Records wanted to make her a star ,but dont know why she drowned herself... i want the =Why Can't i LIZ BACKKKKKKK:(

  • God, she's hot, but this is painfully bad

  • Comment removed

  • This is funny, she is driving the critics crazy, they can't decide if it is genius or pathetic. It seems like it is really two albums, a comedy album mixed with a more serious album in classic Liz style. She has definitely got people talking about it, love it or hate it, they aren't going to dismiss this as boring or a pop music sellout.

  • what is this shit?does phair go crazy?

  • Im offended and in love at the same time. Ah, my brain.

  • reminds me of Nelly Furtado's "Powerless"

    fun song!!

  • ugh

  • I like it.

  • I love the ominous shift at 1:40. This is really fun, clever and entertaining. Her rap is more than decent too.

  • Liz Phair's warning to MIA ?

  • she's so gangsta!

  • unlistenable

  • I love it! It's catchy and was going thru my head all day @ work.

  • If you actually think about it, this shit's meta as hell. It was MADE TO BE DISLIKED. 'U Hate It' for a reason, etc.

  • **UPDATE**

Hey guys, go look in the description box and click on the link!

  • She's a sharp wit, that's for sure. People who don't get this are morons.

It's not meant to be a chart topper for mainstream or indie, it's Phair recording something that she feels deeply about in a funny way. Pitchfork's review of this is a joke as well.

  • I really normally shit like this .. like LOVE weird shit like this. But .. Liz Phair GO HOME! GO HOME! I'm just.. man, the last stuff was REALLY disappointing, then this new stuff is just.. tepid, trying too hard, and comes off as petulance.

  • This song is not actually that bad. It sounds a lot like Imani Coppola.

She's obviously doing what she wants to, which should mean more than if she was just playing it by numbers in a generic singer/songwriter way.

  • **UPDATE**

Hey everybody, go to her website. She has a short message posted directed to the fans.

  • this is a horrible song! it hurts my ears!!

  • Loving the new Liz Phair. Anyone that doesnt get this stuff, never got Liz. It is fucking brilliant.

  • She's an idiot.

  • @Macroptiliummosaic But you are here sucking her dick, arent ya?

  • @jogafl Um, actually I hate this song and everything she's done since her first album, so shut the fuck up.

  • @Macroptiliummosaic and yet here you are, years later, still can't get over her. Lick your lips!

  • @jogafl LMAO dude, thank you for this.

  • Seriously, this release is audio crappage. I'm dropping this chick like a bad habit.

  • this is pure crap

  • Mmkay. I listened to the whole album all the way through, word for word, note for note........and I'm giving it a solid 3.5/5 stars.

It's totally old skool Liz just being sarcastic and silly, but with a nice little sprinkle of some sincerely meaningful songs.

Regardless of all the negativity, it's not terrible at all!

  • love you liz

  • love it

  • If it wasn't Liz Phair then it wouldn't be that bad. It would be possibly acceptable, but it isn't. We all know she can produce better albums. I actually thought Somebody's Miracle was the best album she's put out lately. I usually listen to one of her songs and absolutely fall in love with it. This album not so much.

  • VUVUZELA! VUVUZELA!

  • @MikeLitton I understand what you're saying, but there's no denying that this is just a bad album, not entirely bad, but a good 75% of the album is crap.

"Funstyle" almost totally disregards all the good stuff about her first 3 records. That says a lot.

  • at least she sounds like she's having a good time

  • The whole album is absolute shit in every way. What the hell was she thinking? I could throw this wank together on garageband in a day. Dreadful. What happened to the stripped down album she promised?

  • @philbxt Oh yeeeah, I'm glad you brought that topic up. I remember that promise too! So much for that.

  • Lol, am I the only one who likes this song? xD Everyone needs to stop being so negative, especially those who have her songs as their NAMES-- JOHNNYFEELGOOD81-- because, honestly, she was just having some fun. Is she not allowed to do that now? Just because everyone said so? It's her life, and she'll do what she wants. And we can either sit back and enjoy it, or sit up and say, this is complete and utter bullshit. She said she was making a fun album, hence the name. Not like she didn't warn us.

  • @monamadyson omg same here! I'm trying to give this album a fair (haha Phair) chance, but so far I'm just not feeling it. But today I'm gonna take a walk and listen from start to finish. I feel guilty for torrenting it, but at least I bought it too dammit! lol

And I know exactly what you mean about the Name thing because CLEARLY you must love Liz Phair that much lol!!

  • @madeyes4u (the name thing) Lol, Ikr? (the 'Phair' thing) that's cute. xD (You not liking the album) But I understand if some folks don't like it that much. It's pretty different, but not everyone wants to stay the same forever. This was clearly an fun/experimental album, and you either love it or hate it. I don't think she'll stay like this forever, though. I have a feeling she'll start doing more Girlysound type stuff again soon. But who knows. She's unpredictable.

  • lol shut the fuck up liz phair

  • for god sake she did it for fun

when she was young before her record contract she made silly songs like this all the time (girlysound)

shes not on a label now

if this was put out as a album id be like. what the hell!

but she just released it as independent thing on her website.

  • @xoxojame Why does everybody keep saying that she's not on a label? SHE IS. She's with ATO Records. And THIS IS an album.

  • @madeyes4u Uh, no...it says either when you're about to buy it or somewhere else that it wasn't released under a label. It's unsigned. It also isn't on ATO's website, so there's another hint there. I'm sure they would have been promoting it if she had released it under them.

  • @monamadyson

Yeah, stop rubbing it in! geez

  • @madeyes4u Lol I was just saying. :) There was a rumour a while back that she was dropped from ATO, but I don't think it's true if they still have her on their website...some fans were actually hoping she'd release a "real" album, but. I doubt it. Anytime soon, at least.

  • @madeyes4u

    Wait...scratch that last part!!

  • this has to be a joke.

  • it's weird, i know it's bad, but i'm listening to it for the third time? it's seriously bizzare. i mean after somebody's miracle, nobody thought it could get worse, is she fucking with us?

  • @ohfeverhead lol I definitely think she's fucking with us. Hardcore. And I don't know about you guys, but I can't wait to hear what she's gonna say about everything...

  • stupid cunt.

  • @JohnnyFeelgood81 stupid bastard.

  • Wow, it's been a while since I've heard something that bad. Truly awful.

  • my ears just got full-blown AIDS.

  • @peyoteugly Pretty harsh man. You can be a little more respectful than that, right?

  • @madeyes4u no. i can't. liz phair showed zero respect for humanity by unleashing this aural abortion. it's like she's trying her hardest to ruin the legacy of 'exile' (a genuinely awesome album)

  • @peyoteugly Lol. I see your point, but I seriously feel for you if you think "Exile" was the best thing she ever did.

  • @madeyes4u i really like 'whipsmart' and 'whitechocolate...' quite a bit, too. but to my ears, nothing tops Guyville.

  • @madeyes4u The best one she ever did was Somebody's Miracle. I agree Exile had so many good viewpoints and it was innovative.. in 1993!! Somebody's Miracle is actual catchy without selling out, keeping the opinions of her early songs!

  • @Karliang ARE YOU ON CRACK?
