I gave this a try and forgot you used the large fastener and had the very problem you mentioned with the magnets being so strong, the paper just buckled when I tried to open up the book market after I glued on the magnets. I ended up covering each of them with a circle of paper and that seemed to help since they don' t have contact with each other so the paper lets them "release" apart easier.
Wow, that is awesome, and fairly easy instructions thank you for sharing this cool idea. It looks like it has taken a fair bit of time and effort so i hope anyone that you give the bookmarks too appreciates it.
