  • Lol the voice is Steven Merchant!!!

  • @KeKeKeilan Really? I've found tons much more powerful laptops for a lower price. I love Macs, but they're overpriced. I use both interchangeably.

  • After an upgrade everything works fine.

  • I'm also playing on macbook pro 15 (2011) 1440 x 900, only I play with standard 4gb ram. Everything is smooth, except my mouse lags a lot! When I move with my keyboard it's no problem, but when i move my mouse it has a lag...

Someone know how to fix this? BTW I've tried to play on lowest and highest settings >> no difference.

  • @coloboque I don't believe it is your graphics settings. What kind of mouse are you using? Isn't there a setting in game to decrease mouse lag?

  • @aznguyen316 thanks for the quick response. I'm using apple multitouch mouse, but even if I use my finger on a book's trackpad it gives me the same lag (so it's not mouse-hardware related). No in game settings for that thing...

  • @coloboque maybe your mouse sensitivity needs to be changed, although i do not know how you would do that on a mac, im a pc guy

  • are you happy with this laptop? how does this run tf2 and wow?

  • @greedisgoodz very happy and yes it runs TF2 perfectly, similar performance as portal 2 as it runs on the same engine. WoW runs fine too if you look at my other videos. sub me.

  • how did u get AMD in there?

  • @schm147 The AMD is referring to the GPU. The CPU is Intel, AMD bought out ATI for their graphics division which is why there is now an AMD 6750 in the MBP.

  • Comment removed

  • Nice specs mate. I looked at the MBP line of notebooks a while back when I was looking for a college laptop. How much did this config cost you? Seems like it belongs in the $2,200 range.

  • is that the apple 8gb?

  • @hassoow93 aftermarket 8GB from newegg, the G. skill

  • The 2,3 Ghz Upgrade is so fcking overpriced

  • @RonnyW1GER I agree!

  • will this work on an acer aspire 5739g laptop with windows 7 premium?

  • LOL at people who think Macs are just for gaming and come in saying "lol my pc is so much moar 1337 brah". No one cares, that's not the point. The point is that Macs have great software on OSX, run smoothly, and are very user friendly, AND if you so happen to want to game on them as well, you'll get pretty dam good frames as well, not 80fps, but if you want a gaming machine why would you even get a laptop for it, that's just stupid.

  • @KeKeKeilan Most people don't buy a Mac because... Look at their prices... But they are good Laptops :)

  • @RudyGames Ya, all I'm really trying to say is that people shouldn't bash Macs just because they can't afford them. Especially considering with the components included in a Macbook pro, Apple's prices are very justified. The only PC laptop I've seen with comparable specs had the exact same price tag...the only difference was that it looked bad and didn't have as long of a battery life. I think it was a lenovo?

  • HOLY HELL. THAT IS SMOOTH.

  • Thanks man, I'll need to go to apple assistence

  • and what is the temperature that your Mac comes when you play portal 2 in celsius

  • Man Plis, you ar my chance to know if are my macpro have problems or not, I have exaclty same macbook pro 15" Hi res with i7 2.3 and my mac pro every time that I Log off of my user a very black sharp (like a move) came from top and bottom, can you make this test and tell me if this happens. Try to open the face cam HD, calendar I tunes, photo Booth and google chorme dont close anything and try to log off, PLIS man you are my salvation, before I take on technical assistance

  • @punked9001 just tested it, um nothing. just logged off like normal, I logged back in and all is good. no black sharp lines anywhere.

  • what dos Anti-Aliasing

  • I'm buying a fully upgraded 15'' Macbook Pro tomorrow ...

Think it is a wise move ?

  • @xkingwoodx If you want to save a few bucks, get the 2.2 instead of the 2.3. The difference isn't that big, and I just got it cuz it was readily available in store for pickup so I paid the difference haha. But the hi-res and Anti-glare is great too! good choice if you like OSX, I'm a grad student and use it everyday for school, papers, journal researches etc

  • Where did you bought it?

  • @chatoYmani The Apple Store

  • But how much did this cost?

  • I love Portal 2 and I love Mac:)

  • where did you get the Portal 2 version for mac ?

  • @IiIEragonIiI it's on steam, if you buy it on steam you get to play it for Mac or for windows, don't have to buy it twice.

  • i decided to abandon the mac, because windows really has the upper hand on GAMING. youve got to admit

  • @TheDsihelp I do admit and I've had to fight my demons more than once on switching back (and have switched back) for gaming purposes, had an M11x, a Sager with 260m GTX but I keep going back to OSX cuz I love the OS more than windows and I use it for school, battery life, Applecare all that are more important to me than 5-10more FPS on a windows notebook. But I get you, I keep wondering if I want to go back at times.

  • why didn't you enable anti aliasing? is it to much to handle for the mac, or is it just a personal choice?

  • @vengeance1992 It's become a personal choice. I can enable it and performance does suffer a little, down to 30FPS with vsync but I just don't see much of a visual benefit from jaggies or slightly less jaggies, especially since I'm playing at a high enough resolution where it becomes hardly an issue. AA is almost always turned off in all my games unless it's some 10 year old game haha. There are a lot of other options I'd turn up first before AA, like AF, vsync, etc.

  • @aznguyen316 thanks for the quick reply, I guess it is time to place my order at apple now xD

  • @vengeance1992 AA is pointless if you are running it at the right resolution, and texture quality.

  • @weinerschnitzelboy Not really, even at the right resolution, depending on the game, jagged-edges can still be evident, sometimes radically and sometimes minimally. AA can really spring the image quality and sharpness of a game or image. AA is taxing on both CPU and Video Card, but because everything has to be Anti Aliased on say X4, then every single thing you see on the screen will be improved but uses a tremendous amount of video memory.

  • @weinerschnitzelboy i allready know since i bought the mbp and portal 2 now xD

  • I like my 2nd gen i7 clocked at 3.2Ghz, 6GB of 1600Mhz RAM, and GTX 570 setup better XD

  • @weespat wonderful! comparing a desktop to a laptop.

  • @weespat Now carry it onto a plane... :P

  • @DivideBYZero69

I'm pretty sure no one would notice if I brought my 35lbs tower and my 25" gaming monitor on a plane. And the sad part, they probably WOULDN'T notice if I had it in my check bag XDD

  • ok i just wanted to make sure there wasn't a big diff. the man in the istore tried to make me buy that one. he said it would make a significant difference. wanker lol

  • im sorry, but why the fuck would you pay $250 dollars for 0.1 more GHz? thats really dumb..

  • @TheDsihelp it's not only 0.1 more GHz it upgrades L3 cash memory to 8mb and you get more GHz when it does turbo boosting compared to 2.2GHz's turbo boosting

  • hey guys do you think i should have bought the 2.3 ghz processor instead of the 2.2ghz i7? is there a big difference?

  • @paraplu020 i dont think it matter.. its .1 GHz, who cares?

  • So, this game can be played with higher Rez than usual?

  • damn you game hard.

  • @isaacbsuttle Sorry, but you'd be looking at medium/low more likely, intel graphics suck.

  • do you know of an (relatively) economic option of notebook which runs Portal 2, everything on mid, filtering at 2-4x?? or do you know of a website with that kind of specific information?

  • @SVN4 go to notebook review site and go to their forum for what laptop should I buy? Fill out the information and someone will surely help you. Google the site since I can't post the link.

  • @isaacbsuttle Really well. 1280x800 resolution, medium/high mess around with a couple settings. Medium shaders and textures most likely, prob high on some others. You'll be fine!

  • great video, I'm about to buy the 15" and portal 2 is already waiting for me so this gives me a good preview:P do you think the high res display is really worth it?

  • if i get the 13 inch macbook pro should i run on lower setting then yours?

  • @lemonhead110296 yeah definitely you should. But just test it out. You can prob get away with medium shaders and texture. I forget what uses up CPU but high on CPU based settings. No AA will help. You'll be fine though! 1280x800 resolution (native) for you.

  • do you think i wouldbe able to play it on my baseline, macbook 2011? im pretty clueless when it comes to these things but i really want to play it on mac

  • @TheWhasssupDude Is it the white macbook? Or the 13" MacBook Pro or 15" baseline MBP? I guess if it's a 2011 anything, it will run since you have minimum a 320m nvidia or HD3000. Let me know further details, but yes with any 2011 MacBook you will be able to run it. If you give me more details I can tell you how well it would run.

  • @aznguyen316 it's the white macbook, cheers if it'll run i'll buy it i just dont want to buy it then not be able to play it

  • so did you buy it or download

  • @kingivanthe3rd I bought it and then downloaded it from steam.

  • @aznguyen316 What are your temps while playing games?

  • the same that I have :)

  • working well on my athlon 64 3200+ 2gb ram x1300/1550

  • @aznguyen316 actually I do believe some source games now support multi-GPU but again, that's not what that means in the graphics settings here.

  • lol multicore rendering has nothing to do with your quad core...its still 1 core rendering cuz your GPU is 1 core.

  • @JanBirsa actually I do believe some source games now support multi-GPU but again, that's not what that means in the graphics settings here.

  • @JanBirsa Dude, Every graphics card is already multi core, they have hundreds of sharder processors on them on a single gpu. Yes that option in Portal 2 is meant for dual core, quad core, or hexacore processors. They programmed that game so that those with multi core CPUs would benefit from the coding. Valve has even stated that is the purpose of it...I mean come on man do some research before you post up things like this, it's embarrassing.

  • @Cleezy88 lol thanks for explaining that. I had it all typed out but it got busted so I just shortened it. But yeah definitely talking about CPU here =) thumbs up

  • @JanBirsa No, multicore rendering refers to the processor, in this case it will make a big difference.

  • @ATLMember ok I googled u rite :P

  • you unlocked it? with potato people?

idk any potato people but if u know how to get this fo free msg me cuz it aint on tpb yet.

    plz

    <3

  • @username12131415 I meant like early unlocked on steam. Yeah you can go to steampowered and purchase the game. Valve is still an independent studio and deserve the money for this game. They rock as a game dev. if you're going to support the gaming industry, why not these guys instead of those greedy publishers.

  • Just what I was looking for awesome video !

Does the macbook pro handle games well in terms of temperature ? I'm planning to get one for programming and gaming! - Plan to game alot!

  • @ToadyEN there aren't as much games as there is on the pc

  • @Se7entijz MacBooks are PC's aren't they ? I can just install windows through bootcamp and then I have access to all the windows enabled games.

  • @ToadyEN mm good point I think so

  • @ToadyEN Yeah, but they do cost much much more, and don't offer as much horsepower, they also run really hot and don't have too high res displays. Nice looking machines for sure though.

  • Fuck my life, I have MAC OS X 10.6.6. and i cant fucking play the game! Somebody who knows what i can do?

  • @formerdave94 Why can't you play? Does it say you're not able to? If anything just go to the apple sign at the top left corner of the menu bar and click software update and it will update you to 10.6.7

  • @formerdave94 Buy a PC.

  • do u noe if it will work on the macbook pro 13" (i noe there are 2 13" ones, but im referring to the least expensive one. the one with 2.3 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor)? i want to get a macbook but i also REALLY REALLY want portal 2. and im bad at all the computer terminology and stuff so i dont noe exactly whether its compatible or not

  • @siumaihargow Yes it will work on the Macbook Pro i5 2.3Ghz Dual core 13" model fine. You'll be good to go, it's a great laptop too!

  • @aznguyen316 T|-|@|\|K5

  • how do you think this would run on the 15in late 2009 (2.53ghz, 4gb memory) would run this on semi high settings? thanks

  • @topgearnut1989 Is this the 15" MBP or the 13" MBP? If it's the 15" with the 9600m you'll be able to run on some highs and mediums. If it's the 13" with 9400m then it'll run okay, prob lowest settings. I have a video of it on a 2009 regular Macbook 226Ghz 2GB memory but only 9400m. More details please!

  • @aznguyen316 sorry man, its a 15" MBP with a 9400M and the 2.53ghz dual core, 4gb memory.

  • damn, I'm surprised how well the 2011 mac runs things...im gonna wait until next year for a complete design change and even more awesome specs. too bad i'll only have 11 months to play with it before the world ends... :- P

  • @CullenX yeah if you can wait, always wait =) I do expect a redesign too and of course ivy bridge CPU's. Love the 2011 so far though!

  • were you playing with a controller or keyboard/mouse?

  • how much did the mbp cost you?

  • @tjeppi I'm assuming 1799

  • @tjeppi scratch that, it's actually $2,449.00

  • @tjeppi according to the specs he has on the description, it cost him 2,799.00

  • I have a five year old laptop just just got Portal 2 and it runs at like 2fps at min settings, i'm so jealous

  • @fogglee damn dogg, that's pretty bronasty. You got any other comps or hopefully you got it on PS3 and just tried to see if PC worked? Oh well steam will have it in the account forever so whenever you do get a new new, d/l and play it!

  • @aznguyen316 I wish i did have a games console but hopefully i'll be getting an Alienware m11x this year or next, I think I just about deserve it for putting up with min spec everything for years -.-'

  • Did you download yours off steam or get the CD? Because i'm on a 2011 macbook pro and downloading it off steam however it's 100% done and just says 'download paused' - in the downloads tab it says suspended but will occasionally switch to downloading for a second. I've been downloading for about 12 hours total, on and off (however it was 100% in the first 1-2 hours).

If anyone could help me, it would be VERY appreciated!

  • @ObsessedProductions Yeah I had it pre-loaded off steam before release and had it "unlocked" at release time and I was good to go. Haven't heard of your problem though I have heard of random issues with downloading etc. You may have to try to download again. MIght as well try instead of waiting another 10+ hours.

  • is it regular that a macbook pro have about 5000 rpm while playing portal 2?

  • @53595359 yes, totally normal. Gotta keep it cool some how in that ultra slim design.

  • mind telling me how you got that for free?

  • @MacBoyProductions Got what for free? I purchased the portal 2 two-pack. But not sure what else ya mean for free?

  • @SammyJay2008 I found an example of the screen tearing before I turned on v-sync. Check at 2:30 and look at the picture frame when I turn my head toward it. Do you see how the entire image wasn't in sync. The screen kind of "tore" horizontally for a split second. Yup, vsync gets rid of that

  • "i've got a quad core" - its a virtual quad core mate

  • @willwilson28 Not sure what ya mean by this buddy. It's a virtual 8 threads, but it's quad core... i7-2820qm, google it homie.

  • My MacBook runs Portal1 smoothly, any chance it will still work the same for Portal2? Someone please reply.

  • @FisherxCOREEEE Can you tell us what MacBook you have? Is it the 9400m? If so check my video I made for the 2009 MacBook with 9400m. Subscribe!

  • Thanks for the video mate, as you may guess from my username, yes I read your comment properly and now no this was being played under OSX lol!!!! Runs incredibly smooth, I got Portal 1 when it was free to celebrate the Steam launch on Mac and thoroughly enjoyed it and it's humour. This looks just as funny?

  • @marksapollo Yeah, I'm only in to chapter 2, but al the reviews say if you enjoyed Portal 1, Portal 2 is an even grander, more complete game with great writing and humor. I'm sure you'd enjoy it immensely.

  • Running mine at 780/990 same settings as yours except with trilinear filtering. Never dips below 60 which looks perfectly smooth with vsync on.

  • @shinsource Oh nice, I assume then you are playing in BootCamp and over clocked?

  • which sensitivity you have? or how does your mouse set up ? My mouse acceleration is totally crap, But from what I can see...yours run much smoother...

  • @Skaiters I have mouse acceleration turned off. I pretty much left the mouse on default. I'm using a Razer Naga Epic also.

  • @aznguyen316 Cool! Can you please tell me how did you turn it off? did you use any external software? I want to make my mouse on iMac work like windows one because I don't like this acceleration thingy....

  • @Skaiters There should be an option under the mouse settings in-game to turn off mouse acceleration. IF not check under system preferences under mouse and make sure no acceleration is turned on there either.

  • @aznguyen316 hmmm...I am playing WoW, and I cannot find this function in-game options...System preferences does not allow me to do it either ( you can check it yourself...I can change speed only....)

  • What you may not have noticed was that your FPS dropped to 15 at 11:07

  • @DandamanV all good in the hood. That happens, but it still runs very well, almost always at 60, occasional dip to 30. Been playing through chapter 2. Lookin good!

  • hey aznguyen316: is it possible if you could do a record gameplay from a computer compared to a camera. cuz i really wanna see the detailed quality of the game on the macbook pro. i might get it either macbook pro or xbox. so im debating. plz put up a recording of portal 2 from screen recording. i wanna see the quality thanks..

  • Stopped in 02:15, dont want to see spoilers =/

  • this should be fine on MacBook Pro 13" 2010 right? .

  • @kabbalahhhh Yeah should be fine. I just tested it on 2009 with 9400m and it ran okay, low res necessary but the 320m is a lot better than the 9400m. check my vid here: watch?v=QPxsjKhaG34

  • @kabbalahhhh i was wondering the same thing lol

  • i feel bad for buying a macbook a couple years ago. just recently built a pc for 800$ and it is godly comppared to my macbook gaming wise. never wasting money of a macbook again.

  • i know that the source engine runs well. but i wouldn't be able to run this game with an integrated graphics card, would i? i have a good enough processor. just integrated gpu

  • woo supports controller. portal 1 didnt

  • lol at all the mac people shitting there pants over how well there machine runs the source engine. welcome to 2005 kids XD

  • @numba1netsfan /facepalm

  • @LilCosco08 No, he's right.

  • @InjexDnB Erm... No.... we're not shitting out pants. But have fun keeping the generalization that Mac users know nothing about gaming

  • is this work for 2009 macbook pro. purchased it around June

  • NOOB

  • Anyone already try with a Macbook Pro 13' Mid 2010? The one that have the 320m.

  • @MrGustavoq Almost guaranteed to run fine. Check my video of the mid 2010 with 320m for Left 4 Dead 2. Same game engine, probably more intense due to zombies and gunplay and it runs very well on it. Portal 2 should have no problems. But of course this is my opinion and if I had a 2010 I wouldn't hesitate to get it. Plus minimum requirements list the HD3000 and the 320m just as good graphically.

  • As far as you know, last time you checked, everyone looked...pretty much alive, not dead.

  • The Source engine runs well on most machines. Valve is awesome for releasing this game on 4 platforms on day one.

  • @FrosChannel It was delayed forever though......

  • @anshuvorty Its not a Episode 3 atleast.

  • That sounds like Gaius Balthar's voice....

  • What is the command to show FPS statistic?

I want to try on my hackintosh with GTX 460.

  • Wow... looks amazing on the new 2011 MBPs. Loading it up now on my 17" quad-core, can't wait to try it! What's the command you used to show the frame rate in the dev console?

  • @ThePauloman80 net_graph 1

  • @ThePauloman80 ShowFPS 1

  • Whats screen tearing?

  • @SammyJay2008 When you move around really fast or whatever and you see the frames not loading all in sync. It's hard to explain but if you google screen tearing pictures you can see what it looks like in freeze frame. basically like the top half isn't in sync with the bottom half it's really brief. But it happens a lot. Since I was getting 120+ FPS which isn't necessary, turning on v-sync sets it to 60 or 30FPS and keeps all frames in sync and no "tearing"

  • How about CU/GPU temp on the MBP? And how fast are the fans spinning to cool it down?

  • @LKFlicks maximum fans and I checked SMC fan and it was getting 86-88C

  • @siramnesia yup lol he's great.

  • Nice voice from Stephen Merchant :)

  • is that steve merchant?

  • @SirAmnesia sounds like him, yes

  • the spud sack was a lie.

  • @oliverwalsh93 Sorry buddy! Did you get the golden potato? I assume the Valve pack was fail to you? I only got 4 potatoes, from KF and group join lol.

  • the spudf sack was a lie.
