  • No offense to Chris, but this song belongs to Jimmy. His version is a million times better. Chris's just sounds like mumbling... muttering... it's emotionless... This song was made for Jimmy's voice to sing it. He gives it life, heart, and soul.

  • @awishedforsong Im agree

  • @awishedforsong Emotionless?? Really?

  • @awishedforsong u r an idiot.

  • DOES ANYONE KNOW WHO ACTUALLY IS THE WRITER OF THIS SONG? i HAVE SEEN IT LISTED AS BOTH CORNELL AND GNECCO. EITHER WAY IT'S A GREAT SONG AND BOTH SINGERS DO AN AMAZING JOB. IT'S FUNNY CORNELL'S VERSION SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING GNECCO WOULD DO WITH IT'S GOTH-SYNTH ARRANGEMENT.

  • @farrell57 Written By Alain Johannes and natasha Shneider and Chris Cornell

  • @DerechoUVXal thanks

  • @DerechoUVXal damn I hear Pet Sounds in there

  • @farrell57 It's Cornell matey

  • i lik jimmy gnecco version in my opinion

  • Send me the mp3 please!!!

  • that's because you don't know what a good voice sounds like. I'm guessing you also don't like jeff buckley.

  • I totally have thought of jeff buckley too when listening to Chris sing! I mean it's different, but somtimes there's just something! I for one love them both!!!

  • jimmy gnecco's version is at least a trillion times better than this one.

  • @dannyphil

    No it is not.

  • The live version is

  • the eleven and cornell's version is at thousand trillion much better

  • This by far is my fav CC song ever, and I am a huuuuuuuge CC fan. What beatiful lyrics? I got to meet him after a show once and asked him to play this at the show he had coming up in Cleveland a few weeks later cause I was gonna be there, and he played it!!! Very nice man!

  • ;) the beatles influences are really present on this song...tx for sharing

  • this is going to be my wedding song

  • In the Shakespearian sense, a death can also be an orgasm, haha

  • People die for a reason.

A death can be a legend

A death can be a history

A death can pass it on

Which death would you like it to be?

  • AMAZING VOCALS!!!!

  • Thank you for posting this. Wish i could hear a studio finalized version. But this is good. Nice post.

  • I've already got an mp3, but thanks. According to wiki (not 100% reliable, I know), the song was released to members of the Eleven Street team, whatever that is. Probably an online fan club. Not sure if they only got a digital file, or if there was a promo cd distributed.

  • eleven is the band that played with him... it was their street team

  • @sarah38e

Eleven is so holy and alain's guitar sound so divine that my ears can't handle it...It's so sad that Natasha died, isn't it?

  • So is this version available on CD anywhere? I can't find it.

  • what a great song, thanx chris

  • man i wish i cud get my hair like his xD

  • wish he'd kept his hair like this! its a bit funny looking lately... must be timbalands fault

  • Lol i'm glad chris is trying new things. I don't particularly like what he's done but hey, as long as it's what he wants. Its good to try new things. Im tlkin bout his music by the way...not his hair. lol. but his hair isnt bad now..jus different.

  • damn, he's such an amazingly handsome man.

  • I know...with those beautiful haunting eyes...

  • this song was written for ELEVEN (natasha and alain) and chris cornell

  • no man this song was written by Chris cornell, check your spiderman 2 soundtrack and read who wrote the song.

  • i know right? some people are soo dumb

  • I am not a fan of love songs but this is something else...

    Cheers mate!

  • all this debating on who's version is better is so opinionated. So, in my opinion.....I pick Cornell's voice over the music from the Spiderman recording. The production for the movie definitely puts more feeling into the song........it's not all the singer. Chris definitely could have benefited from singing over that music.

  • Jimmy Gnecco sings it better, Cornell is good but Jimmy really knows how to make it sound intense.

  • This is by far the best version.

There's something more in Cornell's voice that goes beyond the music.

  • did you ever hear the original by jimmy gnecco??

  • Can you post a link where I can download this??

  • heya! , I couldn't find a working link on the web but you can send me a message here on youtube and I'll send it to you by email :)

    Good luck !

  • So what's the story behind the song? On wikipedia it says Cornell didn't write the song (but we all know that wiki is reliable) and on the Gnecco vid it says Cornell had a part in writing it.

  • Its a demo for an Eleven song they had Cornell do the vocals on. This and Heart Of Honey were giving out to Eleven Street team members. Somethin like that if I remember correctly

  • Thanks. His music with Eleven is sooo good.

  • jimmy did write this lol... i dont think cornell was even in the picture...

  • Go find the sheet music dipshit. It says composers Alain Johannes, Natasha Shneider and Chris Cornell

  • FAIL!

  • My opinion when hearing Gnecco's version is that it didn't sound like he was singing his song. It sounded like what it was, Gnecco covering a Cornell song. He sings bazillion times better with his own songs.

  • I think it's a shame that Jimmy's version doesn't utilise the intro riff (you know, the da doodoodoodoo doodeledoodoo doo doo doo -thing), that sort of lifts the song to a whole other place.

  • I love Cornell's older stuff, and I also like Ours and Jimmy Gnecco. If Chris had sang this in the early 90's, he would have completely blown Jimmy away but in the present...Jimmy just out sang Chris (technically anyway). Some people may wail on preteniously about "feeling" and all that jazz.

Truthfully, listening to this version by Chris...it's like it never really started. Sounded fairly mediocre throughout which is obviously down to Chris's vocal problems in the past and in the now.

  • From a technical point of view, I would say that Jimmy wins, but the argument on which version is actually 'better' is just down to personal opinion.

  • Chris in his prime had a much larger range in full voice than Gneeco does, and he has much more projected, powerful high notes. I think Gneeco's version of this song is equal to Cornell's however.

  • This is only two years before Audioslave.

Sometime in that two years Cornell damaged his voice.

Heard he had some kind of surgery but not to sure on that one.

  • yeah he lost something. his tone during the years of his first solo album was magnificant. his highs were still around in '95 which is around when he had his first surgery as i understand it

the new album sounds pretty good vocally, compared to carry on anyway

  • very wonderful song this one like it yes

  • Actually I went through OURS.

Gnecco sounds whiney and basically uses falsetto and a whiny high register for most of the material.

I prefer Cornell's tone. He has a warmer tone, stronger vibrato, and stronger belt (especially in his higher register).

Not only that. Cornell has a 4 octave range.

Bout 100% sure Gnecco can't top that.

Besides this little competition between the two wasn't created by the artists. It was created by the fans of the artists.

  • actually, Jimmy Gnecco has a much broader range. and no most of it is not falsetto. its a mix of head and chest. so this is a preference here. this is very nice coming from the artist who wrote it. BUT, the Gnecco version has incredible brian may guitar as well. cornell yells here a lot. Jimmy finessed it.

but chris is an incredible vocalist.

  • The technique is called belting. It's been utilized in Rock by many great vocalists such as Daltrey, Plant, Tate, etc. It's more of a controlled yell.

Cornell wasn't belting the whole song. A lot of it has to do with the unique sound of his voice.

I think Gnecco is a great singer.

And head voice itself is normally referred to as a mix of chest and falsetto. It's called the chesty falsetto by some instructors.

  • Love this song very much.. thanks

  • im a huge cornell fan and ive never heard this song before. its amazing in all aspects

  • OK, I think a lot of you guys are selling Gnecco a bit short here. He is not a more skilled singer than Cornell, I agree. But Gnecco is a great singer, and judging him just by Someone to Die For isn't fair or accurate.

Listen to some more of Gnecco's performances and I think you'll have a better understanding of how good Gnecco really is.

  • I suspect this guy is a cylon :))))

  • if your gonna compare cornell to a good or better vocalist you would mention someone like geoff tate or freddie mercury or even rob halford. Cornell is clearly a lot more vocally skilled than gneeco, especially when cornell was in his prime, gnecco is a good singer but he is by no strech of the imagination a better singer than cornell. end of story.

  • cornells da best

  • Comment removed

  • he's pretty hot, but it really doesn't even remotely look like he's singing o_0

  • Hi :), well the video belongs to the single: 'preaching the end of the world'. The audio you hear is actually a demo.. I just inserted the audio of that rare song to this video, I thought it looked nice. I'm glad you liked it anyway :)

  • that's vos he aint you fucking idiot its just a diff vid put on as background

  • E' disgustosa questa canzone interpretata così. E' anche stonato, 'sto tizio.

  • i think that Gnecco's version is better! but Cornell is okay!

  • well im just happy jimmy doenst sound like a mix between scott stapp and steven tyler.

(it's just a joke, no one take it too personaly)

  • Can somebody please tell me what cd one can find this song on?

  • Well, eithor way we are lucky to of had this be on our time, they spent there years getting better eveytime for us, they all Freaking Rock.....;) its ok to appriciate it all....

  • best singer alive ... creepy moostache

  • in my opinion...chris should have stayed with

soundgarden.i mean hes got a great voice!...but this musical arrangement sucks.

  • it's a demo.

    what'd you expect?

    The music won't be perfect.

  • Chris is talented, Jimmy is talented. Neither deserves to be bashed, but I believe Jimmy Gnecco has the better voice.

  • are you completely retarded? four words: TEMPLE OF THE DOG

  • Nope, not retarded. I said both were talented. Yes, Temple Of The Dog... wonderful. Calm the hell down. I'm an OURS fan so of course I favor Jimmy Gnecco. But, I'm also crazy about Chris Cornell's voice so... yes.... please calm down.

  • cornell's performance is the best, but i prefer the musical arrangement on the gnecco version (though his voice is very annoying)

  • im with mr jmccarton. its hilarious watching all the typing flatulence that goes on on u tube.

  • Jimmy fucking sucks. He sounds very one sided. What I mean by that is that he couldn't sing a heavy song if his life depended on it. Chris just can do so many different things and yet you still know its him. Not to mention more soul.

  • You are an idiot

Jimmy can wale as good or better than any rocker in history.

  • Jeff Buckley has a better voice than Kurt Cobain, I still love Kurt and I still love Nirvana. Freddy Mercury has a better voice than Scott Weiland, and I yet on the whole I prefer to listen to STP than to Queen. And Jimmy Gnecco has a better voice than Chris Cornell, even though I own everything by Chris and think he is a tremendous performer.

Furthermore I will even concede that the only version that trumps Chris's is the live one.

  • archive (DOT) org/details/ours2004-05-26

  • Does anyone realise that being the 'best' is a matter of opinion so NONE OF YOU will ever prove to anyone else that your opinion is ''correct'' because there is NO SUCH FUCKING THING!!! Why do you insist on comparing and contrasting everyone?? Wankers!!

  • mmm some ppl like coke cola some ppl like pepsi let´s not argue about chris and jimmy, they´re both great.. but anyway I luv chris´s work.. lol

  • It's funny watching the back and forth going on. "No, Chris is better, no Jimmy's better, no chris, shut up stupid, blah blah blah" hahahahahahaha

  • what a stud!!!!

  • Chris Cornell is such a sexy man with such an entrancing voice. Man oh man.

  • soul rock yeahhh

  • beautiful song by a superb singer thanks for uploading u rock!

  • Wow - thanks so much for posting this - just did your Google seach too - excellent work - just wish I could download it!

    xxx

  • hehe, you can right click on any of the songs of the list and then choose: "save target as.." and then you can save :).

    Good luck!

  • u know what, even better, for any1 who likes this song: go to google and search for: "index of chris cornell lost and found" and then click on the 1st link that appears and.. voila!

  • Yeah, where do I get this??? Is this extra material from "Euphoria Morning" that landed somewhere else?

  • no actually, it's a demo from a song that it's on the Spiderman 2 soundtrack, in that record the final song it's performed by another singer. I'll send you an email :)

  • Brian May played the guitar on the Spider-man 2 version. Its a shame Chris's great vocal and Brian's great guitar couldn't have been on the same track, because Chris's vocal blows the other guy's completely out of the sky.

  • I totally agree! lol

  • pashinator are u fucking stupid dude?

Cornell is way better than Jimmy Gnecco.

  • I mean atleast Cornell's voice sounds like a dudes voice.

Gnecco sounds like a bitchy whiny teen.

  • While I LOVE Chris Cornel, he did not do justice for this song. Jimmy Gnecco put a lot more passion into his vocals.

  • Nope.

  • Huh, no way! Chris sang it way better!!

  • Yeah because saying someone is good, yet someone else is better makes me stupid. Grow up, asshole.

  • What are you, Gnecco's mother? "A million times the vocalist Chris is"? In what universe?

  • I'm not sure how me thinking that Gnecco is better makes me his mother, but okay. Let me know when Cornell sounds good live.

  • Chris sounds good from 1996 to pre-96.

  • You either get his music or you don't, and I think it's safe to say you don't.

  • So because I find one great vocalist better than another (used to be) great vocalist, I don't get his music?

    Fuckin' idiot.

  • I may be an idiot but even an idiot knows the difference between a truly great voice and someone who wines his way through a song. Then again maybe you like winners or, perhaps, you actually are Gnecco's mother.

  • No what I think is you're biased due to your username. Of course you're going to support Cornell. What's funny is a never knocked Cornell's talent - I just find Gnecco to be better. Heaven forbid someone comes along and finds a vocalist better than your hero Cornell. To be honest there are quite a few vocalists better than Cornell, believe it or not.

  • Fair enough.

  • Yes I agree there are vocalists better than Cornell out there. Good examples would be Geoff Tate from Queensryche or Roy Khan from Kamelot.

But I agree that this song is better from Cornell.

He just has better charisma and his voice is much more powerful in projection. He does great in the chorus where he belts those notes. I really doubt Gnecco could pull that off.

Gnecco does whine and his voice's timbre just can't compare to Cornell.

  • No your just ignorant. of his full career. Cornell in his prime during TOTD, Badmotorfinger and Louder than Love was head an shoulders above any other rock vocalist.

  • Im loving all of the arguing going on. All it means is that both singers are good, nothing else. Jimmy has been my favorite singer for a long time along with Thom Yorke, but Chris Cornell is still amazing/ even live.

  • holy shit! i have wanted this version forever! how or where can I get it?!?
