I honestly think more people should carry their side arm openly, instead of concealed. I would worry if I were to see someone bend over and see a gun, meaning they have a reason to hide it. I would worry about someone openly carrying it because you see it, know it as being there. Now if they looked in any manner negative then I would have a reason to contact authorities. People who oppose the open carry are incredibly naive. Especially now that we have the repeat offender prison population roaming around victimizing everyone. Our broken criminal justice system does not adequately address the repeat offender problem. Criminal courts all over are backlogged, jails and prisons are overcrowded. Nobody seems to care until they become a victim. Law-abiding citizens should open carry everywhere.

I build custom firearms but these guys do not need to be pushing the boundries and carrying weapons openly in public. Had a guy come over to my house once for dinner and he thought he could keep a loaded Glock on his his hip when he entered my house. I said ahhh, No sir, you are not allowed to carry loaded weapons in my home. The 2nd amendment isn't going anywhere, have a little decency if you need to carry go concealed and don't do it for shits and grins, only if you need too which is rarely.

Guys I know who have carry permits aren't likely to shoot someone they shouldn't. We are well trained and practiced in the use of firearms. If firearms are so dangerous, they why not disarm police? The police carry firearms to protect themselves, and so should citizens.
I can certainly understand the reluctance of companies to openly endorse firearms within their establishments. In cases of accidents or wrongful death, companies doing so would likely be held liable in civil lawsuits. Wouldn't exactly help customer relations either. Thus, the notion of a roomful of overly enthusiastic gun owners blasting away wildly at bad guys during a robbery or whatever is a nightmare. Companies are far more comfortable with CCW (what they don't know...).

I've been around guns all my life and I haven't been scared of a gun once. My first shot was when I was around 6 which I shot a 22LR and now I'm 13 and have alot more practice with guns. However, unlike your suggestion, that doesn't mean officers are not employed and expected to provide protection to individuals. They simply cannot be held liable if or when that fails.

If I wasn't a libertarian, I would REQUIRE everyone to carry a firearm whenever they left their property because it would serve the public safety to have universally armed people, and as part of their duty serving in the unorganized militia. It would sure scare the piss out of the criminals. The rest of the people are quite trustworthy with guns. There would be a net public safety benefit, as has been shown in academic studies.
So there is a good case to legally COMPEL people to carry guns.

I don't think the Brady Campaign should exercise their First Amendment rights anymore. Just because it's their right doesn't mean they should. They should be ashamed of themselves. I can certainly understand the reluctance of companies to openly endorse firearms within their establishments. In cases of accidents or wrongful death, companies doing so would likely be held liable in civil lawsuits. Wouldn't exactly help customer relations either. Thus, the notion of a roomful of overly enthusiastic gun owners blasting away wildly at bad guys during a robbery or whatever is a nightmare. Companies are far more comfortable with CCW (what they don't know...).

The case you cited (Warren v. District of Columbia, 444 A.2d. 1, D.C. Ct. of Ap. 1981) had to do with the liability of a police agency failing to provide protection. The court ruled that an agency does not have a "legal" obligation (no law, contract, etc) which infers legal liability in such cases. However, unlike your suggestion, that doesn't mean officers are not employed and expected to provide protection to individuals. They simply cannot be held liable if or when that fails.

If I wasn't a libertarian, I would REQUIRE everyone to carry a firearm whenever they left their property because it would serve the public safety to have universally armed people, and as part of their duty serving in the unorganized militia. It would sure scare the piss out of the criminals. The rest of the people are quite trustworthy with guns. There would be a net public safety benefit, as has been shown in academic studies.
So there is a good case to legally COMPEL people to carry guns.

I carry a gun to defend myself, and those around me, from criminals-and I couldn't possibly care less what skin color the criminal has. If I feel threatened, I'm not going to let anyone close enough to me to lay a hand on me, and because I have a gun, I can back that statement up. You can hold as many black belts in as many different martial art forms as you want.

@isl1968 You make a lot of assumptions....and not surprisingly at all, all of them are wrong. I don't wear skirts-with or without a belt. I'm not sure what you mean by "make shift nuts", but I've never had a belt anywhere near my genitals. I pretty much got along just fine with the people I went to high school with, and was never scared by any of them-black white or Mexican. I have never cared what color a person's skin was, as long as they conduct themselves in a civilized manner.

@isl1968 And the only time I have ever had a knife pulled on me, it was by a guy that I had never seen before, well after I graduated from high school and college, But rather than getting into a physical altercation with the guy, all I had to do was unholster my sidearm, and he dropped the knife and ran, which was fine with me. Believe it or not, most of us really don't want to have to kill anyone. What we want is to be left alone to come and go as we please without fear of attack-by anyone

Why would even think that? Are people basically good or basically evil? I think the vast majority are basically good and the few who are evil will be scared off by the good people when the good people are armed. Having people armed would confer an enormous public safety benefit.

Some people need rules that keep them afloat. Just like you. Yes you can open carry or conceal but that doesn't mean that you are a police officer. It just means that you can carry a pistol for show not for application. Investigate how the law limits your use of the weapon. It's call homicide, negligent or not. It costs time and $.

Sodomy already is legal. There was a Supreme Court decision a while back striking down those laws.
Suicide? What are we going to do, give 'em the death penalty? Ha.
If heroin was legal, there would be an enormous public safety benefit. When was the last time liquor store owners and distributors shot it out? If it was legal, it would be so cheap that addicts wouldn't need to steal.
