nice I have to play this in my youth orchestra group but it's been changed to an easier version i find it sooo fun to play on my bassoon :) Great job!
I'm a 31 year old rock-musician who just realized after watching this the true beauty of classical music. So many people all working together and doing awesome - it's like a super-band. It IS a super band!!! Just all acoustic. Amazing how I never appreciated this before!
Simply a great performance. The performance of Brahms's 1st Symphony was equally impressive. Sadly one of the last concerts to have Jan Diesselhorst on stage, who passed away only a month after this concert. He truly was a great musician and person.
I like the maestro's brisk tempo. The accents add just the right amount of "fire" which keeps everything moving. A great orchestra performing in its tradition of excellence. (No offense.. but I see Bilbo Baggins when I look at Simon Rattle)
I love this recording! This, along with a performance conducted by Barenboim (same orchestra) are among the best out there. Even better than Kubelik, who shies away from the timpani accentuation heard very clearly at 0:27 here. When it sounds so good, why, OH WHY?!
Is it true that the average age of a musician in the Berliner Philharmoniker is roughly 30 years old? What a sound. I am an American, however I must say I have been hardpressed to find too many orchestras of this magnitude. Oustanding!
Let me know you my personal relationship with this piece of music.
As child of 10 years, I heard it from the orchestra of our music school teachers. I loved it from the first moment so that I wanted to learn the trombone or violin. Now I'm playing the violin and this very happy!
Second, once I had a wonderful melody - beautiful as it was from heaven - in my mind, and I searched after the origin: I found it in the melody of the flute/oboe in the Trio.
(ah, what the hell, here it goes). A friend invited me to one of these digital concerts -I think this one- and we "arrived" late, at the end... can you believe it? "arriving late" to a digital concert??'???

Ahhhhh! Sir Simon Rattle he brings this wonderfully new and refreshing sound to the Berliner Philharmoniker its amazing. The Karajan era might be over but in no way is the Philharmoniker worse than before, perhaps they've gained a new dimension in their music making
For more of this wonderful group, click on BerlinPhil at the right and you'll get their channel. I'm subscribing. You can't get too much of a good thing. And THIS is a VERY good thing.
The dirigent looks as he has more fun than the whole orchestra :D

Here, Dvorak threw in some short passages for oboe and piccolo. Quite an exquisite tone colour! Love the way he explores different WW combinations!

It was some kind of overture for his concert on 6 January 2008, followed by Brahms's 1st Symphony.

I guess it does for me what religion does for others.
