It's not JUST the hardware that makes a computer run really well and reliably, it's the software that runs the hardware. Mac OSX is really what makes the Mac Pro a very very efficient and reliable computer. Best personal computer on the market, and by far the fastest.

Sorry but you can't. This is a PPC mac and Xeon is Intel. It's a completely different architechture.

The dual 2.7 Ghz model is the quickest G5 out there besides the quad 2.5 Ghz model. If you want the quad you're going to pay about 1500 USD and at that price you may as well invest in a Mac Pro. In the long run it will be a better investment. In any case I have the same model as you and it's a wonderful machine. If you can live without Snow Leopard it will continue to be a great machine for years.

I disagree with you and would have to agree with alexxmidinite. I have had my G5 for a year now and it's by far the best computer I have ever had. I use my computer mostly for music recording and editing as well as film editing and it is superb! I'm only using four gigs of RAM at the moment but will soon upgrade to 8 Gigs, thus increasing it's potential. Maybe in the future after I graduate college I will get a Mac pro but as for right now, I have absolutely no complaints with the G5!

I would also like to add that all of the recording software and editing software I use as well as plug-ins and upgrades are supported by PPC. Yes intel is better, there is no arguing that. But I do feel this computer will last me quite a long time and is holding up very well thus far :)
