anyone got any idea what the name is of the nice piece of music at the end, i think it was recently updated for the new doctor who's and i love it but don't have a clue what the name is
What I love is that you watch these old ones and you realise that they use pretty much the same arty techniques and stuff, only they have better technology on hand now. The reason the new series works for old school fans is because it remains true to these old series, but with better production values (which bring in new fans).
Wish NuWHo had regenerations like this instead of relying on that combustion thing Eccleston and Tennent did. The BBC has the budget and the creative team to do it!
Imagine seeing Matt Smith's bones stretch or his hair fall out or something...
This is nowhere near as good as peter davidsons regeneration in caves of androzani that had far more emotional impact I always felt this could of been done better as tom baker was the greatest doctor of all time! Still the idea of the watcher being the doctors entity from the future was a pretty cool idea!
I've figured it out now, the old hoarse master you see in Deadly Assasin some years before, is in fact Ainley. He became that when he took Nyssa's Dad's form in Keeper of Traken.
Its funny because the new regenerations are so violent and the old ones are just one creepy ghost laying down. I was expecting a more epic death tho. I've heard tom baker is great. I'll have to check it out
I remember sitting down in front of the television that was tuned to Chicago's WTTW at 11:00 pm on Sunday, December 27, 1981 - the night Logopolis was first broadcast. I was 14, a freshman in high school who stopped watching DW a few years before. Seeing Doctor #4, my old childhood friend, regenerate was a shock that has stayed with me to this day. I even referenced it in my first feature film, DISQUIET (2006).
@Toribot: Yeah, sure - I am plugging a movie that retired from the festival circuit three years ago.
The point of my story, though apparently lost on you, was that this regeneration's impact on me was so strong that I made mention of it in my first filmed screenplay. In fact, one of the characters is obsessed with it.
I love how people like you always appear on bulletin boards and forums just to say something bitchy.
@momentsinmusic This exerpt features several: Tegan, Adric, and Nyssa. And there is the flashbacks of past companions (I.e Leela, Romana 1 & 2 and Harry to name but a few)
Goodisgoog, not all of the Pertwee OR Tom Baker era have been released on Dvd yet, and the occasional episode of Pertwee is missing from the BBC Archives, Most have been released on DVD And you might find a nice classic on VHS
this was the first time i had ever seen the doctro regenerate. It was such a shock. I was probably 12 at the time. He sacrifices himself for the earth in this episode. And then he changes into Peter Davison. I thought they were both awesome.Anyone who loves David Tenant should check out as many Tom Baker episodes as possible.
Yes whenever the actor playing the Doctor wants to leave the role the Doctor regenerates into his next incarnation meaning the series isn't depending on one lead cast member like most shows. In NuWho Christopher Eccelston's Doctor regenerated into the current Doctor portrayed by David Tennet who will regenerate into the next Doctor portrayed by Matt Smith.

I always found it odd that the Doctor landed on his back, perfectly straight. Not that it can't happen, it's just unlikely.

@The8thDOCTOR Lol, there is a scream when the Doctor falls, but none of his companions scream.
BannedFromThisSite 1 year ago
@BannedFromThisSite I don't think that's a scream, just a high pitched electronic squeal that's part of the 'score'.

So then the master takes the tardis? what happens then?
fkylw 2 years ago
That's the Master's own TARDIS. Note how the chameleon circuit isn't stuck in a police box disguise.
After that the Doctor and his buddies head off to Castrovalva where he hopes to recover from a problematic regeneration... but trouble ensues!
