They were taught how they were called out of the world religions and governments. They were taught how to discern false brethren and teachers, not to greet them or invite them in their houses. They were taught to rebuke those who contended with true teaching and withdraw from them. They were taught holiness and separation. They were taught one body, one spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all.
The true, eternal and unchanging Word of God. Jesus Christ.
They were taught righteousness, that they would repent from dead works and be prepared for good works. They were taught to be content with what they had, not to love or trust money. They were taught to love each other and care for their children, widows and orphans. They were taught to endure persecution and how to respond to those who persecuted them. They were taught how they no longer knew Jesus as a man in the flesh but knew Him in the Spirit of God who lived in their hearts by faith.
The true leaders of the church are given in Ephesians chapter 4, as a fulfillment of prophecy in Psalms 68:18.
The fruits of the Spirit, the qualities of the Spirit, the gifts of the Spirit, the ministries of the Spirit, are all given to the church as they are taught in the letters to the church.
The warnings to the church about false prophets, false teachers, false brethren, are all given in the letters to the church.
People no longer have any FEAR of the living God! Pastors have "watered down" their messages & perverted Christ and the gospel! The Jesus most people know & relate to IS NOT the One found in the Bible! The church (starting with the leadership & then the people) is just as guilty as the unchurched worldly sinner, in Rom. 1:18-32 (*vs. 21 - 25*). There remains only a few good men of God & prophets who preach & take a stand against sin & corruption in churches, and a small remnant of people.
Too many pastors are more concerned about "padding their pockets" than for the welfare of the souls of the people .... HIRELINGS ! Most ALL churches have followed in the footsteps of the Pharisees, as in regards to Mark 7:1-13 ( vs. 8 - set aside the Word, vs. 9 - reject the Word, and if continued long enough vs. 13 - make to no effect the Word ). We're also seeing the days of Amos 8:11&12 - pastors not preaching hardly any Word & "sheep" leaving churches & searching for a place to be fed !
Amen ! Preach the Word ... the entire counsel of God ! No wonder we so seldom see healings, true conviction & conversions of sinners, and any mighty moves of the Spirit of the Lord. Pastors are more intent on sending people home "feeling good" , instead of "feeding the flock"

The true gospel and Christian doctrine are seldom if ever taught in context with the letters that were written to the church.
The geunine church is unique in all the world, just as it was in the 1st century roman world.
The Christian church is God's creation, purchased with the blood of His only Son, Jesus Christ, the "Annointed One Saviour".
It's not created by man or defined by government or a social organization or a non-profit corporation.
Never has been, or ever will be.
