Thank your for posting this! This was aired on German TV in 1979 (ARD)..dubbed..now I get to see this in the original version! YAY! BTW, The title of this series was "DER DOKTOR UND DAS LIEBE VIEH". Met my first love then....
I was so sad when Carol Drinkwater was replaced by Lynda Bellingham in the series. Later on, I found out that she had an affair with a married Christopher Timothy on ACG&S, then she got fired, but later, they were asked to return to to the 4th season of the show, but she chose not to due to their breakup and the tabloids writing stories on the affair. :(
Thank you so much for posting these videos, I really enjoy the show. James Herriot's books help me to overcome my fear of animals (ironically, my dad is a vet), it's a pity that I can't find all of his books in Taiwan...
It's so good to finally see this in the original Version (used to watch it in German). Love this show, even one of my dogs was named after it (Tristan). Thanks for uploading.
@ThePurplebluehaze I agree this show was wonderful and showed England at it's best. But it's a bit of a stretch to say it's exactly like this now. England in 2011 is nothing like it was in the 1930's- 1950's. This show portrays an England that's all but gone now. But fondly remembered.
@Buffalobigboy69 Well, yes, maybe I should have explained myself better. I meant the fields, the colour of the grass, the sky..not necessarily the buildings etc..anyway, it's so beautiful after our dry old country in summertime, hehe
I absolutely love the books - they were always the books I read when I needed a good hearty laugh. Although there are quite a number of sad stories - some of the sad ones about dogs made me cry especially after mine had to be put down :(
OMG! 0_0 totally gonna buy this series, the books are wonderful but seeing it brought to life would be soo cool. Much better than alot of tv series you see nowadays.
Thanks for sharing. I'm reading the first book right now. I feel so bad for James with Biggins. Haha, I'm starting vet school in the fall, so it's a glimpse at my future, I suppose.
It's funny watching the show (especially this episode) after reading the books, because you know what's going on in his head when we talks to all the people.
the scene with biggins is actually from the book 'Vet in Harness'. i have been following the conversation through the book and i remember someone saying in the commentary tht the real James Herriot didnt want anything changed in the programme. although the scene in the book IS an example of how hard it was to get through to some of the farmers, and seeing how in the programme James is new, it would make sense.

I loved the books. You can't really do them justice with a serial, but it's interesting to see the time and things recreated on film.
If anyone hasn't read the books, definatly get them if you like this sort of thing.

I'm a great fan of this series. I'd say it's even my favourite one. The accent is a bit weird... Nice to find it here on Youtube!
