  • Very nice.

  • Like your videos and your web site, thanks lads !!

  • playstation one...lol

  • Thanks guys for a diy that you actually can build at low cost. I won't even name another vid that claims this yet put up no plans, and then offers to sell you one for the cost of a low end professional rig. Heck why would I be looking at diy if I had $1500+ dollars to spend?

  • Thanks ;)

  • that is pretty cool

  • why not run the wires through the rods?? that might cut down the amount of wires you have!

  • PLEASE RESPOND!!! how are you supposed to transport this with a car?

  • I built one from the video and it works perfectly for my purposes. It takes a little getting used to. There tends to be a little bounce If I do jackrabbity starts and stops, but with practice I am able to film smoothly. This is the best DIY boom and the easiest construction instructions I've found on the Internet.

  • I have to say that this is one of the best DIY jib crane tutorials i've ever seen here on Youtube! This is absolutely fantastic and I can only hope that when mine is finished that it will look as good as yours. Great job guys!!

  • Absolutely brilliant considering the low cost - I'll be building one this weekend but might make it substancially longer to get those really high shots - thanks guys for the inspiration!

  • Nice build! There is however, I noticed, a little shake when doing vertical movements? Anything to make the movements more stable? Maybe using roller bearings? Or a heavier build?

Seems like the crane is moving to readily, should be a bit more hesitant.

  • good idea thx

    thank

  • good idea thx

  • when you dont film, you can play games on your play station :D

  • @n3o2CA :D thats EXACTLY my life! you just described it in 11 words... wow... thats sad.... (except a ps3 not a psx)

  • Nice job fellas!

  • THIS VIDEO GOT ME TO BUILD MY OWN CAMERA CRANE THEN I STARTED ADDING A RC P-T-Z , THANKS GUYS AT NEXTWAVEG

  • Super job. You can custom make something matched to your camera weight, skills, applications.

  • Thank you for posting this. I used this video to build one myself. I used aluminum tubing that that I purchased online and that made it lighter in weight.

  • Hello

Great video, I have a question. I need the music you use in the minute 8:45. Can you tell wich program you use?

I use the same music in another video in Spain and now I have to use again. Thanks

  • @Ladelgadapareja The music you need is called 'City Guy' and is by Ross Jordon. You may want to search for an instrumental version if you don't want the lyrics. Hope this helps?

  • Ha! U guys are awesome!

  • Look a mine at lecameraman.fr

  • its crazy how good that sketchy thing works!! thanks for posting

  • ill buy one for you right now. how much u asking for?

  • very cool design! thumbs up and high five! vamos!

  • cool

  • So clever!!! Thanks so much for sharing your design!!!!!!!!

  • a bit late i know, but nice job man, that looks really good

  • awesome guys!

  • and what camera was on the jib

  • what.camera do.u usally film with

  • You say its a 'How to build' video, and yet you build bits of it off cam so we cant see how you properly build it.

  • Wow, video output looks awesome compared to dirty and cheap setup! Great work!

  • what adjusts the camera level when you go up and down, and what starts and stops the recording?

  • @mrmartyman7

I was thinking this as well..

And came to the conclusion that it works very simply:

It pivots on the 2 main supporting poles - when it goes up the top pole pulls the vertical "mainstay" in (the bottom pushes it out) and the vice versa.

So... as long as you cut the poles to be correct at some point (and with one above the other), it should stay vertical the whole way up and down.

  • @immersionimages

You can see it working on this professional one: youtube.com/watch?v=d5YU9317iOI

This one also has a manual adjustment for the camera angle...

  • @mrmartyman7 1. Usually the audio is recorded externally. 2. Either start and stop when the camera is near the ground, or use a wired/ir remote (many consumer cameras come with these)

  • Very good and Thanks

  • idddddduuuuuunnooooooo

  • How big should the lazy susan bearing be?

  • wow, u guys are geniuses :D

  • how much does it cost?

  • lol nice idea with the ps1!

  • That is awesome and inexpensive! (notice I didn't say "cheap") Thanks for the inspiration! You have a new subscriber!

  • The weight on the back should balance neutrally with the camera while it's on the rig, it makes the shots much more smooth. For your camera set-up, ten pounds looks like too much weight. Proper adjustments you don't have to fight to keep the nose end down.

  • you should put that thing on a dolly and you'd have a VERY professional set up for super awesome shots. :)

  • HEY! Great vid, thanks a lot! One question, I'm having trouble hooking my camcorder up to a Portable DVD Player. Can u make a video explaining how to hook up a camcorder to a screen, or just give me some directions or something? THANKS A LOT!!

  • Make one to work with a Arri Sr3 or a Arri 416 plus HS and I'll be in business!

  • cool this is great ;)

  • good job guys

  • Really good video. I'm going to try and make one of these. Just because I want one!

  • does the shock absorber on the rode videomic move around or does it just stay level?

  • thank you so much ,,,, I made mine from this awesome video ,,,, and actually i didn't listen to your advice about the tripod and knew what is the problem :D:D

  • nice

  • Awesome! Thank you very much.

  • It's a rough prototype but cool. Now I'm inspired to build one to film Mt. bike races. It'd be super cool if you made a rotating, remote mount for under the camera like a chain and sprocket drive to a knob at the weighted end of the jib.

  • Very good. Did you base your design in a particular design ? which one ?

  • thanks alot, i just subscribed and liked becous i liked this video and want more of them ;D

  • add a shock from a screen door so that the up and down is smoother.

  • Good ol' American ingenuity! nicely done. have you ever consider making one with a motorized head for the camera? maybe with a servo motor that can be controlled by an operator.

  • How t' go, guys. Real nice. Looks like it works pretty well! B.

  • how did u get the film to look like a real movie what effect did you use? like when you filmed using the jib/crane

  • @broz4lyf possibly it's just his camera,

but if it's not he did it with after effects or sony vegas and set the black on top and set the wite on top. done :)

  • @broz4lyf im looking for the same thing on what your looking for. maybe i want to make a music video. for example. the crane is one of the best things to use, so ive heard, and maybe look on ebay. :D

  • nice work guys.

  • That was very entertaining and informative. Thank you.

  • Very cool and resourceful. Love the PlayStation monitor, classic!

A big ghetto though, you may be embarrassed to show up to a shoot with that thing. LOL.

  • wow great ...

  • Impressive

  • Can someone send me a link for a Lazy Susan (United Kingdom) because the ones i find are for kitchens and are £100-£600

  • guys this is some real piece of work...kudos...

I'd really like to build one now

  • If you use metal polls like this guy did in the video, don't forget to paint it, otherwise the light will reflect on it and possibly ruin your shot. (trust me)

  • I was very impressed with your use of your native inteligence to build you own tools. The images that you were able to get from your home made crane were steady and aesthetic. Well done. RAW Instructional Technologist at U of So Fl. Tampa.

  • i like this.

  • This video has been an incredible help. Thanks so much = )

  • It's the hillbilly jib! Coming soon to a trailer park near you!

  • dude!

the PS One lcd screen is genius

I actually have one and I never thought of using it for a live view screen

    awesome

  • i was a bit hesitant at first as to how it would turn out, but the test footage came out great! good job!

  • Very nice. How much did it cost you to make the rig all together?

  • Really nice job. I can't wait to get started on mine. Anyway, how did you attach the tripod head at the top and still allow it to swivel and stay parallel with the ground?

  • Amazing idea.

  • Nice job, but I still have a problem, my camera don't have a remote control ¬¬, any way, I'll fin how solve this problem :p

    Thanks for share!

  • Great video!!!!

  • thats sooo good!

  • Loved the first test. Amazing. Can't wait to get one.

  • Very nice, cheers!

  • awesome guys

  • Great!... Congratulations!

  • Great!... Congratulations!

  • Get some really nice shots from that good job!.

  • Nice job! The shots look incredible and if you take that crane out on the streets, there's no doubt people will think you're a pro :p

  • how much did it cost you to make?

  • looks like a pro film good job!

  • Nice job dude. I was surprised at how well the picture looked with such a lite crane. Nice...

  • That is the most amazing thing ive ever seen, with the ps1 and everything! Nice job!

  • nice man, takes good vids in the end but not as a pro. crane but it's really good for it's price

  • Thanks so much for your in depth video! I put together my jib crane from mostly these plans and did a few modifications myself. I posted a video of it in action and it really is smooth. Thanks again! Jeff

  • @jbfiddler What kind of mods did you make?

I've been thinking of making one and this one seems to be the best design.

  • I have a question: could you make a similar crane jib that can hold the weight of a JVC camcorder that weighs about twelve pounds with these same materials?

  • Great Video man! thanks!

  • Comment removed

  • i bet that was a great feeling when you finished. nice work

  • the bolts will scratch ur headphones...

  • i mean i know its a sweet jib/crane but who would spend that time and money on it just buy one cheep

  • the problem withe cheap jibs is that they wobble, not designed for heavy weight cameras and also you do not get a smooth pan/tilt with them

  • Great totorial, I maybe gonna use this or by on for cheap.

  • You are a good man. Thanks for teaching us..

  • Great tutorial!

  • thank you! good vid

  • where can i find the thing that your mic was on and whats it called

  • it's a flash bracket. doing a search on Google or ebay should help you find one.

  • really very appreciable video............

  • @NextWaveG this is way too tedious for the normal person to do themselves...can i just buy a decent jib? Nothing that big

  • thouse lights thawt were in cludied i would have put the on the rig

  • you really paint it with non reflecting paint or you might end up with bad surprise during sunny days (like a light spot reflecting from your crane to your main caracter for exemple) It might sound silly but sometimes you just realise that someone in the scene have a light spot on his shirt, and when you realise that in post production, you are screwed up.

  • you really should**

  • wow. very nice!!!

  • Good Job man...i like the fact the camera tilts down as u raise it and doest just stay at the same angle...good job on designing...the only thing is ...it could have been longer for me...but great design

  • Dude, nice homemade rig. super creative

  • lol that is infact something to make Heath Robinson very envious,...well done give a good idea what is involved ...thank you

  • I think you've done a great job making this video i'm planning on making one myself also how much did it all cost?

  • very, very, very good job, a lot of thanks.

  • a very good aportation for all the artist in expantion, congratulations from Monterrey N.L.. México

  • hey guys , thanks again , see my videos using my jib/crane

  • Just add it onto a home made dolly and your ready to kick some ass!!!

I'm gonna give it a try along with the home made dolly.

    great vid 5*

  • awesome dude...that was great..

  • A lot of work, but that's really awesome.

  • Exellent video........ nice job, thank you.

  • thats sick im making one of these and a track dolly soon

  • How much did this cost total?

  • Nice job!!!!! Thanks for the video. Any idea on how to add a "swivel" system on the camera?

  • OH YES! Where was you tube when I was in film school.

Oh yeah there wasn't really an internet back then. Just Cinemagic and Super 8 filmmaker magazines. You guys don't know how good you got it now.

    Good work guys!

  • Hey how hard is it to find a job once you get out film school man? I'm considering doing it :) Thanks very much

  • if you go to a good one you'll find work before you get out- i did, and I live in OKLAHOMA

  • Even if you go to a mediocre one you can still get a job pretty quick, even faster if you network. I got a job on the film "Castaway" that way. If you are really dedicated and don't have to have a day job, there is lots of work for a person who is available 24/7 and can travel anywhere.

  • @NelsonStJames ...as a musician...I said the very same thing.

  • Thanks, you did a good job! I'll let you know how mine turns out. 5 stars -saved as favorite

  • AMAZING!! try to build this for my own !!! totally need this thx!

  • just a idea: what about pulling your crane with a big rubber band to smooth the movement?

  • awsome... simply awsome

  • awesome!!

  • great job!!

  • The last shot was priceless with the music, Felt like a sitcom.

  • Great work!

  • Thanks alot guys... This was really awesome. I made one of my own that pretty closely followed your one...it works great. Keep up the great work.

  • Very nice results! Happy to subscribe.

  • this is amazing i wish i could build this but i have very little money and almost no space. good work though

  • Waw! That's cool. Only one problem. How much can it lift? I have an professional camera used to film professional movies. I weights like 3kg. I really want/need a crane but to buy one.... not possible! xD

  • you guys are geniuses!

  • don't like how noisy the lazy susan piece is, but yeh...good thinkin' mang!

  • but how do you transport it lol

  • thanks heaps mae. that was bloody excellent. i'm heading off to biuld one now.

    cheers

  • you inspired me a lot! thank you very very much

  • dude....u are a freakn' GENIUS

i mean come on...a playstation? i would have never thought of that...are a pure genius man.

  • Excellent job by's! Cant wait to make my own now. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • thanks alot i appreciate u sharing

  • That was great! Im going to make that now!

  • dude thats freakin impressive! great job.

i really liked how the footage came out at the end..

  • Genius! Thanks, you helped a lot. I make one for my self! :D

  • that things legit as fuck! good idea using the playstation.

  • Last week I built a crane, after I saw your Video: It workes really great. I did'nt have a lazy susan, I never saw something like that in germany... So I used two pieces of pvc, fixed with a screw. It also workes very well.

  • when u say "recording", do u mean like a music video?

  • well done guys!! thanks for sharing...appreciate it

  • because i dont have a PS1, i just bought a mini TV from goodwill. it was $10, and it worked just as fine.

  • Where did you get the lazy susan? You were hard to understand at that brief moment when you said somthing like Manars... much thanks

  • I got mine from ebay. They don't sell them in regular DIY stores in the UK.

  • What about hardware stores?

  • Same thing. We just have DIY stores in the UK really, that or builders/trade merchants, that sell bricks and timber etc... They sell some stuff like that, but don't have any lazy susan's on their website at all....

  • so u cant get lazy susans in the UK? well, if you use the extendable work lights, the inner tube of metal can swivel in the outer one anyway.

i wonder if they sell any Lazy Susans in Indonesia cuz dats wer i live...

    fingers crossed

  • Menards is a home improvement store in parts of the US. There are other stores such as Lowes, Home Depot, etc. If you don't have a store by you, you can probably find a lazy susan online.

  • Thanks I'd really like to make a jib half as cool as yours, but I'm still trying to get all of the parts, I'll try checking hope depot. Thanks!

  • Well Well Well...

About 2 minutes into this I started laughing my ass off.....thought it was some sort of home-reno-film-demo project on crack...

Then as the video progressed I stopped laughing and was stunned!!

Bloody excellent work...genuis in action...2 thumbs up..wayyyy up!!
