Please let us not ignore the health care mailer that Hillary sent to Wisconsin voters today - it contains lies about Obama. She did that on the eve of New Hampshire primary by sending a mailer that said Obama did not support abortion. We ignored it and look what happened in New Hampshire: we lost the election there. PLEASE LET US RESPOND!!
Can anyone name a country as large as ours that socialized medicine has worked? And by worked I mean the level of care has increased or improvements have been made.
Obama's health plan relies too heavily on current health insurance providers (oh yeah, I trust them), and doesn't recognize that people who are not covered are less likely to go seek help if sick, go in to work when sick, and in the end cost us all because we get infected by them or we pay their unpaid bills thru higher costs all around. Also, coverage goes down, because insurers can't raise rates enough to cover increased expenses.
how many U.S. Senators are NOT millionaires? Zero? One? Why then is there even a health insurance offering for them....and then a pension program to boot?????
They spend millions to get into office-its not like perks are needed........
Obama's whole "change" stuff already became a joke the moment he used endorsement from Kennedy family to boost his compaign. How can you expect the guy to change Washington, after he proudly showed off his connection with the oldest dynasty in United States?
By the way, Teddy is probably the most incompetent Kennedy. Without the help of Bill Clinton, he couldn't even maintain his senator position. What a joke!
Great Point Senator Kennedy! It's too bad though that Hillary Clinton has a far better health insurance plan. Barack's right, there is philosophical difference between Clinton and him. Hillary thinks it is unacceptable to leave 10 million uninsured, while Barack does. Standing for Change? Why don't you take your expanded military, your charter schools, your stance against Pakistan, and your cuts to NASA's budget back to the Illinois state legislature, Obama. America hasn't been waiting for YOU!
Alyce, almost there. Neither plan is "single payer". Insurance lobbyists & the reality of putting all the people in health ins out of work won out.
Both plans provide an alternative to existing insurance plans, like Congress' plan, and make it available to everyone. Affordability comes because currently uninsured people pay 3-6 times what my insurer, Blue C/BS of Ill pays. People who can't pay are subsidized by cash payers and ins. If nearly ALL become covered, then our costs will come down.
libssck: you are wrong, you will only be forced if you vote for Clinton who madates it and will garish your wages if you do not take it. Senator Obama feels if people are happy with their current carrier they can keep them. He also will not penalize uninsured who do not buy, but plans to make health care affordable, by number one~ditching lobbyist influence upon our laws.
Neither plan forces you to change your health insurance! Don't worry, they both utilize current health insurers so they won't all go out of business, and they can continue lobbying Congress and slow-paying, low-paying, or not paying doctors or hospitals and charging you high premiums. The new plans just offer an affordable alternative that's like they get in Congress and will be available to everybody.
alyce: "you will only be forced if you vote for Clinton"
Then how, pray tell, will Obama pay for his own 'universal healthcare'? Print more money? Never pay Doctors? Steal medical supplies?
"ditching lobbyist influence upon our laws"
Lobbyists only have influence insofar as Congress lets them have influence.
Not to mention, lobbyists are important to politics: they represent the interests of the minority. From blacks, to doctors, to teachers, musicians and businesses.
Clinton couldn't pass her plan before, and she won't be able to pass it in the future. Plans on paper don't do me a bit of good without the unifying leadership to pass them. If we elect a divisive president, angry as her spouse, the policy you admire will remain where it is, on paper. Leadership is the rare thing, policies are everywhere.
How can I find out if Obama is coming to Toledo, OH? I search the obama site and can't find specific dates for upcoming rallies. I'd like to know instead of only relying on hearing it on the TV news an hour ahead of time which I found out about Bill Clinton coming.
people can say what they want about kennedy. but what i say is this ted kennedy knows that the last person he saw talk the way obama did and do what he is doing during this time was his brother jfk and rfk and if people dont believe me? check the history books the words dont lie. this man has the insperation of dr. king with the leadership of kennedy.
Pls post Obama speech at Wisconsin Democratic Gala.
Supporters are worried about Barack being constrained in responding to Clinton's negative ads.
Unfortunately, these ads get voters attention.
Barack has set the bar high for himself and Clinton is determined to exploit this so posting the speech will show supporters & voters that he is more than capable of responding to Clinton or McCain without resorting to misrepresentation, distortion or outright lies.
Well, Mr. Kennedy.....You drunk.....your health care system is good enough for all the politicians in Washington, because your a privledged class. You have the CHOICE of all the best doctors and hospitals....the rest of us who will be FORCED to have YOUR LIBERAL health care system will only suffer because we won't have any choices. We will only get those doctors and hospitals that YOU say we get to chose from! If people want health care then let them choose!
libssck... you make his point for him. He is trying to get the rest of us a health care system that is as good as the one that the "privledged class" has. (BTW: your poor spelling doesn't help your argument.)
You appear to have bought into a lot of propaganda. Try watching something other than Fox News.
1) Dear lib disenchanted, Do your homework. Around the world, most developed and developing nations either have or striving toward public (not for profit) health care structures. The US is embarrassingly backward in this regard. 2)I believe that the Senator may be a recovering alcoholic, but he is no drunk. BUT! even if he falls into his home 7 days per week it may be better to focus on his abilities rather than his supposed disabilities. My 2 cents.
Obama will bring back a government of the people, by the people, and FOR the people. He will bring honesty and inegrity back to the white house. But he needs our support to do so!! one wish to all americans.
Please take care of this man. I think he is the last hope for the peace and good things on our world.
Good for that one senator, but you can't all take credit for his sacrifice just because you share a party with his.
That's a good point about the socialized medicine, though... George doesn't seem to be complaining that he's got that free from the government, why begrudge it to everyone else?
Obamas "change" rhetoric and a new Washington, change the status quo, if Kennedy isn't part of the status quo in Washington, then who is? Bottom line, same old talk, same results. Let's see substance, results instead of good theatre.
You tell like it is Sen. Kennedy! I am an Ohioan for Obama...I don't care what those Ohio polls show. I hope my state comes through for Sen. Barack Obama...not just for him, but for the sake of our country.
I have noticed that one candidate focuses on bringing people together, which to me should be categorized as an issue and a major issue by the way and the other focuses on attacks and trying to rise by putting others down. I think she should back out of the race. There is a chance for there to be greatness in this country with a leader who truly knows the vision. OBAMA 08'
I'm praying that we can have universal healthcare like most other western countries. How can we be the richest nation in the world (despite a plummeting economy), yet millions of Americans live with no access to medicine and quality healthcare?? If we can change that, I think a lot of American expats would be willing to come back to the US to help build our economy back up.
I am not an American citizen, I am Australian. Yet, when I listen to Obama speak, heed the words coming from his mouth, I cannot help but feel "This man is truly great". He has changed my previously ignorant and cynical view on politics. Having read his books and listened to many of his speeches, I've pretty much changed my religion to Obamaism. He will go down in history as Legend.
Amen! Get'em Sen Ted Kennedy! If its good enough for Pres. Bush it's good enough for me and you. If it's good enough for Dick Cheney and all the other Republicans than it's good enough for you and me. Universal health care for all Americans!
If we get Universal Healthcare, we would be less afraid to seek employment where our hearts and passion takes us. I would do more for my community if I knew I would be taken care of if I get sick. Right now I am in a shitty job that has great health benefits... I am just too dam scared to quit... It's like being hostage!
