Holy Crap!! They are STILL on strike??? I booked a room for 3 days at that hotel in 2005 and they were on strike then. Man just close that place down, not all that great. They kept charging my credit card 2 months after I had checked out.
Johnny Edwards said this year "The War on Terror is a Bumpersticker" .. hmmm .. Well Johnny, that so-called bumpersticker just MURDERED Benazir Bhutto today, probably the leading proponent of Democracy in the middle east. John, get a fucking Clue ! .. if you can't afford one (lol) then try Rent-A-Center you moron.
Nice thought about politicians doing anything on the workers behalf, they just want your vote, and will do nothing once elected. Good luck to these people.
John Edwards is the only candidate for the people. In the last several years he has traveled out of his pocket to promote higher minimum wage and successfully helped pass higher wage bills in many states.
He is the ONLY candidate to say NO to BIG Business and Special Innterest PACs.
Also, the only candidate with full universal health care coverage- Important to the 47 million people without AFFORDABLE Insurance.
God bless you for making a prayerful and educated vote.
Three cheers for John Edwards! Unions brought us the weekend and will continue to stand for working class families. Senator Edwards knows that one of the ways to end poverty and to strengthen the middle class is to allow workers to organize. Thank you, John Edwards, for your courage and commitment to working class families. You will make a great president!
I can't believe Edward is stupid enough to follow this union in their crusade against a small independent hotel run by an immigrant family. The congress plaza is not a chain like Hilton or Marriot that can afford what these idiots are asking for. Its time the rich, fat union leaders to stop sucking money from honest working families.
Evidently the owners are strong enough to lower their employees' wages.
"All powerful union?" With all due respect, I think perhaps you ought to check YOUR facts. Workers' unions have been steadily losing power--health care, wages, pensions, job security...benefits in general. Workers deserve living wages.
First of all, the Plaza workers got a 5-10% raise, just not the 60% raise they demanded. If the unions are losing strength, thats a good thing. Big corporations and huge trade unions are the cancer of our free economy.
You say socialism like it's a bad thing. More socialist countries have free healthcare, education, many programs to give back to tax payers, not just kill them. America bears the shame of being the last western nation to not give it's people healthcare. If we can fund wars, propaganda, corporate welfare and no bid contracts to rebuild countries we tear up, we can stand up for workers rights. What do you want to do? Abolish labor laws or bring back slavery?
Yes, we all can think for ourselves. Yes people realize what they are doing and taking a stand in what they believe is their right as a US citizen so stay on the right side. Don't be a turncoat!
If you truly gave the Hon. Senator Edwards all due respect, you'd acknowledge that he's the working poor's best advocate--the very best they've had in decades. Subsequently he is the best advocate for every American citizen because this country can't stand much longer the way it is now--on the backs of the poor. We should all be working for economic justice before our nation fractures and falls to its knees.
Families, ordinary Americans, are struggling to survive. Populist gobbledygook? No. We need change in this country--and that seems to scare those with an I-got-mine-you-can-fend-for-yourself attitude. Sad.
You are missing the point. Helping labor organize helps to... MAXIMIZE wages and protect economic opportunity for the working man. Study your history. Corporatism or better known 60 years ago as fascism is corporate America controlling government. Which is btw precisely what we have in America TODAY. Edwards is taking on and trying to turn back this paradigm. Go Edwards!

Congress Hotel housekeeper wage: $8.83/hour,
with no raise until 2010.
Chicago standard housekeeper wage: $13.20/hour
MamaBear2008 4 years ago
Check your facts,
Chicago average housekeeper wage:$8.50/hour
Union 5-star hotel rate: $13.20/hour
You just copied your lines from the union website, go to the federal goverment data.
nahm0002 4 years ago
The big picture--or this spepcific one--isn't described by federal gov't data.
MamaBear2008 4 years ago
Yep, I agree. The big picture is that the all powerful union is having a show of strength.
It is making an example of the Plaza becuase the owners are not strong enough to fight it.
Its leaders should be ashamed, go pick on someone your own size.
