I love love love Bowie so Tin Machine made sense to me, This album is fantastic...Tin Machine 2 not so much...but this album killed. I bought tickets to see them in 1992 at the Phoenix in Toronto...bloody brilliant.
Joeey save ur know it all lectures for someone who cares. I'm a HUGE Bowie fan & have been for decades, I met the man i HAVE spoken with Iman, I work with his former percussionist. but I don't feel I am above everyone else & shoot my mouth off with advice. If peeps love or hate T.M then that's their thing I admire him & his legacy, as well as his business sense . I also have a DEEP respect for other people's opinion and I don't go around telling them what they should & shouldn't think
I got the Tin Machine LP vinyl after watching this promo on italian tv. It was the trying back to rock after years of pop music. 1989 was the year of the back of Queen with I want it all, the Pink floyd tour, the passage from unknow to big band for Guns and roses, Metallica.. great year... and maybe the last year of the pop of 80.s.. holly johnson, samantha fox, roxette, ... then.. the grunge and house music ruined everything...
Being a huge lifelong Bowie fan I was not happy when Tin machine emerged, I thought it was the end of Bowie. I still collected everything Tin Machine and saw some killer clips but the band seemed off key and it was more like a free for all than a real band. No doubt they rocked but I think they sucked more than rocked, my opinion. Thank GOD Bowie came back to do some of his best work in his entire history ending on a high note with The Reality Tour.
@MusicCollaborator a little too real for you, eH? by a distance it is his best lyrical work. -and have some respect for the legacy of Soupy Sales. you need to know more about this band. it is bolt of lightening in a dreary time, for once Bowie tells what he thinks, no more immitate Michael Jackson super smooth billion seller. He did all that and then got it real and got it right, Thank God.
@Joeey Too REAL for me? What an insult just because I had an opinion? U say his BEST LYRICAL work? LOL yeah. I LOVE much of Tin Machine but when the brothers were on drugs they weren't on the money. I have their live DVD and it's Pronominal. Bowie WAS NEVER A MICHEAL JACKSON SUPER SELLER oh maybe because his Let's Dance knocked J off the charts? He made money and many finally knew who Bowie was, and he was way more than the Let's Dance guy. Respect for Soupy? No clue wtf ur talking about.
Nice! The thing I like about some of Tin Machine's songs at least is that they were emotional-ie Bowie's vocals were emotional! I think i've either reached a stage in my life or i'm going through a phase where I really appreciate vocals that are emotional! The first song that "HIT ME" in that way was Joe Jackson's (who is another GR8 songwriter, by the way) Another World from his Night And Day album! I ABSA-BLOODY-LUTELY loved that song a few months ago-Brilliant! Regards from you know who! Yeah
intensely perfect. thanks, i never thought i'd see this compilation again. it was rolled on american mtv very briefly, and i know i snagged it on vhs somewhere, but man, i live 500+ miles away from my old tapes.
Tin Machine was such a great band, and I guess many people didn´t like them cause they forgot Bowie is about... "Changes". Besides, nothing sounded that raw back in 1989.
Why did people diss Tin Machine? Yer Bowie's not Ziggy or Major Tom here but you can't tell me these fuckers aren't rocking hard or loud.Man they were good.....
i remember it was great to hear melodic heavy rock without the typical spandex, vocal histronic singers.tin machine'great stuff.

@MusicCollaborator Since you begin your reply by directing me away to "some who cares" I will accept your counsel. Have a good day.

Tin Machine were totally underrated in my opinion... maybe people couldn't cope with Bowie as being a member of a band... I think they rocked!

And again...
I can't THANK YOU enough for this!!!!
The Tin Machine idea was/is horribly misunderstood, especially by hardcore Bowie fans (which I'm not).
Listen to "Under The God." TOTALLY FUCKING ROCKS!!!!
