I got this camera as an AMAZING gift from a friend. I have always been a a fan of canon. Particularly how the menu and features are formatted. It makes it so easy to work with. I purchased a Nikon D40 in the past but when I noticed myself reaching for my much cheaper Kodak more often I got rid of it. I love this camera. It's hard to put it down sometimes. It takes stunning pictures. I would recommend this camera to someone looking into getting your first dslr.

@jwmb224 The lenses are more or less the same in spec; they both manufacture their own lenses. What I meant was that Nikon's lenses are compatible with every camera they've ever made, as well as every Nikon lens ever made being compatible with today's cameras. You have more choices from vintage to modern stuff. However, unlike Canon, I find that Nikons suffer from poor white balance as well as sharp focusing issues. Try both and see what you like better. :)
