  • think of it this way. if you have a meth habit, and your dealer is an ass, do you make your own meth lab or realize meth is bad and look for better ways to enjoy life?

  • why are you all so broke? i make 85k developing websites using skills i acquired from self-study. my point was that the government has tons if borrowing power and can either fund more drilling or fund new technology research and development so clean cars wont have to cost so much. think outside the box already...

  • HA HA - DEEPWATER WHORIZON, you sorry sack.

  • What a piece of fucking shit. Plug that well by shoving this fat gasbag down it.

  • @MinnesotaRaindog You'll change your tune when your relatives pay $6 a gallon for heating oil thanks to Obama's plans to skyrocket the oil prices.

Oh... btw it's working. I just paid $3.59/gal today and that was the lowest gas station in my city of near 1 million people.

  • @DudleyaSetchellii I couldn't care less what you or your relatives pay for heating oil. I have geothermal heat--two-thirds paid for by YOU thanks to Obama's tax credits.THANK YOU Dudleya! I also drive a hybrid, so glad to hear you whining about gas prices too.

  • If we don't drill the Oil someone else will, infact China is already sideways drilling a few of the spots we have been fighting to Drill in. You liberals have to realize that if we don't drill it, someone else will. AND do you think China is better at drilling in the ocean?

  • American Solutions website is down, wonder why....

350,000 strong needs to go clean up the Gulf.....

    NOT VERY SMART MOVE GUYS....

  • do you still think this?? Drill now in the Gulf, you might have a problem....

Guess it's too late, shows how Drill HERE in the Gulf is paying you back for this...

  • You would have to be an IDIOT to think anythings going to lower your gas prices. Theres nothing in the world thats going to make gas cheaper again,EVER,EVER!!!!

Except the next ELECTION!!!! it might go down 3 cents!!!

  • everything this man has said is laughable

  • there is enough oilon the north slope of alaska to last the us over 200 years, also oil pool under n.d. and four other states is the largest pool in the world.

  • This campaign is shocking and depressing. Get off of depending on foreign oil? Use shales and tar sands? That's a very short term quick fix.

The long term solution should focus on frugality, conservation, and sustainability. The hydrogen economy is decades away. Our American way of life needs to change DRASTICALLY, and this is not the direction we need to be going in.

Listen to christo930. People need to open their eyes to the reality of Peak Oil.

  • We want to drill NOW

  • Christo930, you're probably right about the dollar collapsing again seeing how Obama wants to flood the US with government dollars. Inflation is on the way. But still there is no reason not to use the oil we have. Ideas about solar cars and windmills are good for the rich, but we poor ride around in combustion engine vehicles. We can agree on is the need to build nuclear power plants. Clean and plentyful. We have the technology, but as usual the left stands in the way of progress.

  • This is wrong. Nuclear fuel is mined and processed using conventional fuels. Diesel equipment is used in mining uranium at concentrations like .001%. Nuclear power is probably not going to replace Fossil Fuels. I personally am hopeful about the future of biofuels like Algae. Corn Ethanol is a waste, sugar cane and palm oil suck, but Algae if they can make it economical is great. Hemp oil for bio-diesel also has potential. I wouldn't bet the farm on Nuclear, despite it's excellent safety record.

  • There is a belief that oil produced in the US is for the US market and that simply isn't true. America is a NET oil importer. That means we import more than we export, but we do export. Oil price does not change depending on who is selling it. If we were drilling here and now we would paying the same price, only more of our dollars would stay here. But our dollars aren't worth anything anyway and if some idiot is willing to give a gift like oil to us for our useless paper, more power to us.

  • WTF? The U.S has more oil than they have in the middle east, you're saying that won't have any effect if the U.S congress allows access? Let's go over a little thing called "supply and demand" this is what dictates the price of goods and services, higher cost, less supply, lower cost, more supply, letting the oil companies have access to huge quantities of oil, gives more supply, this helps lower the price. Also with the current economic situation demand is going down too.

  • The US doesn't have more oil than the middle east. We do have a lot of shale, but that isn't oil, just like the tar sands aren't oil. It doesn't matter how much we have, it matters how much we can use, that is EROEI. The EROEI in shale and tar sands is very, very low and you end up with heavy oil. The Middle east has very high EROEI light weight, high flow oil. And since the dollar is going to collapse, we may as well get while the getting is good. The USD is on the brink of COLLAPSE.

  • christo930--if we never gave Israel a free ride then

    we would have no problems

  • US oil companies have a great deal of land in the US open to them and they choose not to develop those fields, giving them access will do little good and oil prices are low now anyway. You can't drill your way out of a bubble. US peaked 38 years ago and will NEVER be a net oil exporter again, unless we merge with Canada or something. If Congress gave them the access it would take at MINIMUM 10 years to market. We need new energy sources, world production of oil has peaked (4 years holding).

  • God, you are an idiot. Who is advising you? The rosiest estimates of oil in the Atlantic Continental shelf, Pacific continental shelf and the gulf shelf is not enough oil for more than a few years at CURRENT consumption. Any oil would not be available for years and years even after it's found. The days of easy oil are over. We have blown through about 1/2 of the worlds oil, the second half is harder to get to, lower quality and more expensive. $10 a barrel oil is over, forever.

  • The energy problems in this country are not going to be eradicated by short-sighted, unsustainable measures like increased domestic drilling. Any slight benefit will certainly not be immediate, and the amount that our own reserves could contribute to our total consumption is paltry. We need to *reduce* consumption, spend our efforts on more efficient products, and agressively develop renewable sources of energy. Innovate Here, Innovate Now!

  • This guy is a traitorus sack of shit- the only solution to our energy needs is DOMESTIC and SUSTAINABLE production of SUSTAINABLE energy sources. Brazil does this with alchohol pruduced by sugar cane. Production of alchohol by cattails grown along the mississippi would produce enough for the whole country, carbon neutral. Do some home work before you po-po this concept. Giengrich and his like are ignorant fools, or corrupt scum, take yout pick. jc

  • Newt Gingrich is a bloated, corrupt piece of shit who, as Majority Leader in Congress in the 1990s, was instrumental in the deregulatory process which is BANKRUPTING America today! He is the oil companies' BITCH! NOTHING he says can be taken at face value! Offshore and North Shore drilling will take 8 years at least to bring only 10% of America's oil needs online! It will only benefit oil companies and their investors, not Americans as a whole.

  • I'm all for drilling responsibly to increase supply side if it benefits society.

But why do you have a philandering, mendacious, douche bag like Newt Gingrich as the face for your cause? Why not chose someone from the US Geological Survey or a scientist of merit?

Is it because you need a self serving politician to push your agenda?

Afterall, we are talking about the "potential" for oil. There's no guarantee that we will find enough to make a difference.

    (SEE BELOW)

  • Whereas there are large seepages of petroleum along the Arctic Coast of Alaska and conditions favorable to the occurrence of valuable petroleum fields on the Arctic Coast . . . President Warren G. Harding used those words in 1923 to describe the apparent petroleum potential of a tract of land on the western North Slope of Alaska, when he issued a one-page executive order establishing the 23-million acre (36,000 square miles) Naval Petroleum Reserve No. 4.

  • During the following six decades, the U.S. Government conducted two petroleum exploration programs in the reserve, one in the wake of World War II and the second in the wake of the 1970s oil embargo. These programs found only a handful of oil and gas fields, none of them commercial. The name of the reserve was changed to the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska (NPRA) in 1976

  • DRILL HERE! DRILL NOW. I'm sorry Nancy Pelosi, but I don't care about a rare bird species I'll never see! I care about having the money to take care of my family. Our children are more important than wildlife in Alaska most Americans will never even see.

  • I have a solution...

Let the air our of NG's Tires!!!!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA!

  • Write all you want, dirt ball, Newt makes sense.

  • NG- is a Filthy Lair!!!!

Oil prices are governed by International Demand.

If Oil Demand rises by 40% and production is at world capacity how is going to get to cheaper when Domestic oil can be sold aboard for a higher price????

  • Alternative energy does exist. A green "new deal" needs to be created. There are millions of green collar jobs available if people would invest in wind, solar, geo-thermal, mass-transit, turning homes green and energy efficient. Bring your supply up by using clean energy and your demand down by weatherizing homes, using plug in hybrids and mass transit. You pay less at the pump and create jobs.

  • I am voting liberal because I want to become dependent on saudi arabia for oil the rest of my life.

  • Idiot!!!

  • I was being sarcastic dumbass!

  • My bad!

  • Look, I as a Republican am for alternative energy but guess what? These sources have yet to be developed! They need to be researched, tested and proven to work in order for alternative energy to be mass produced.

  • Scum-Bag, don't you think the Americans pulled together in the Great Depressions and World Wars I & II when needed? When the going gets tough, the Americans get going. Yes, we always need a push at times, because we are so spoiled. Oil rigs taking two years to erect and pump oil? BUllshit, we determined Amricans can do it in 6 months to equalize the crap we are no dependant on overseas. Meanwhile, those other jobless Americans have erected 3/4 Nuke PWR plants so we don't need Canada's anymore

  • I'm a scumbag? LOL

  • Wow your such a jackass, what are you trying to attack me for?

  • This is the same disregard for economic fundamentals that got us into the mess that is Wall Street. As long as we ignore the fact that there are more and more people while our oil supplies continue to be depleted at an increasing rate, we pursue a flawed energy policy. No sound understanding of supply and demand justifies less expensive fuel. To promote cheaper gas is a purely political ploy that ignores the needs of the country and the world, it is unsustainable, selfish, and short-sighted.

  • Ya Newt! Drill here drill now pay less!

  • Drill here, drill now, slow down the in-evitable increase of gas due to the greatly expanding world wide demand for oil that production can't keep up with.

Oh wait, that sounds lame, maybe people can't pay attention long enough to read all that. Besides, it won't win me any votes.

    CORRECTION:

DRILL HERE DRILL NOW, PAY LESS!

BTW, we should drill, but don't be surprised when gas prices keep going up.

  • ea drill here drill now.

Not like those fucking Europeans who let gas prices get as high as 10$/g. Its like they dont even care about the price of gas. They keep do the same shit year after year, excluding OIL from their energy needs.

WE need to do things differently in the US and McCain knows the answer.

    DRILL baby DRILL

    DRILL baby DRILL

    DRILL baby DRILL

Man with gas prices at 10$/g the Euro economy must the shits. Hows the Euro doing against our $ again?

  • WHo cares if China will bring 600,000,000 people into middle class in the next ten years. That wont make the cost of Oil increase that much.

WHo cares if the the price of GAS increases dramatically every time a hurricane comes.

And when we become energy Dependant by drilling baby drilling, WHO cares if Arab countries, who will still own the biggest Oil reserves in the world, will be able dictate the global cost of OIL.

  • You have no faith in our scientists, engineers, inventors, and tinkerers. In 50 years oil will be almost worthless. But in the meantime, we need it. My car doesn't run on grass clippings, fryer oil, or Hope. And I have places to go with no mass transit.

  • If there's one thing we can be certain of it's that oil companies want nothing more than to sell us cheaper gas and put less money in their pockets.

  • WASHINGTON - Government officials handling billions of dollars in oil royalties engaged in illicit sex with employees of energy companies they were dealing with and received numerous gifts from them, federal investigators said Wednesday. The investigations reveal a "culture of substance abuse and promiscuity" by a small group of individuals "wholly lacking in acceptance of or adherence to government ethical standards," wrote Inspector General Earl E. Devaney.

  • yup

  • I signed the petition to drill, but have since found out that all oil from America, has to be sold on the world market.Does anyone know anything about this subject?

  • you are correct sir the little thing the RNC wont tell you. lol

  • RNC,DNC,its all big goverment to me!

  • lol, i stand corrected

  • the idea that this will have any effect is rediculous, national crude deposits don't get close to the energy demands of the USA. As to end reliance on dictators - crude is a globally traded commodity so our limited supplies will have limited or no effect on global pricing and any crude that is not bought by the USA which is physically impossible, will be inevitably bought by other countries. The problem is not supply but demand so why not campaign on reducing are depandance on crude period.

  • I find it curious that journalists have not hopped on the fact that the Republican's VP candidate's husband is an employee of British Petroleum, whose majority stockholder is the Queen of England. I am a former employee of Standard Oil (Ohio) before BP bought it out for 51% ownership. His job is clearly a conflict of interest for HER. But, before telling him he's got to quit his job, check out how much money he makes a year from BP on the North Slope with a high school degree.

  • Ha ha! More US leases for multi-national companies that can sell our gas to China, India, or whoever pays the highest price. What a sad, greedy oil industry sponsored joke. More like Big Oil Profit Solutions!

  • Boy this has got the libs screaming like little girls.

  • This guy can't be for real. Old politics and old ideas coming from an old man.

Tesla Motors has a 100% electric car that goes 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds. It goes about 250-300 miles on one charge, and takes about 3-4 hours to recharge in a standard wall outlet. France developed a car that runs on compressed air and gets over 800 miles to the tank, with a top speed of over 90 mph. Clean technology is available, and THAT is what needs funding...drill here...give me a break. Wake up, people.

  • say that over on 3 ways to lower gas prices plz. we really need to wake EVERYONE up

  • really??? how much does a tesla car cost?? $200K? lets all go out and buy one!

UNTIL technology becomes affordable we need to drill/develop America's natural recourses.

Drill here, drill now pay less is practical solution to a practical problem. Remember increase supply keep demand constant equals lower cost.

  • nope not 200k where did you get that from?

  • When the market is ready for these vehicles, they will become more popular. You think people don't like the idea of electric cars? I know that if they were practical I would buy one in a second. In the mean time, we are paying up the ass to fill our gas tanks. America has got to drill in order to highten the supply of oil, and therefore lower it's cost.

  • @AlienWebguy I'm awake now you buy those pieces of s#@t. Drill here drill now pay less!!! Who can afford a new car? Especially after waiting 3-4 hours to drive 300 miles? Why don't you do us all a favor and move to France!

  • @AlienWebguy

While I agree that clean energy is better... no one right has any money to go out and buy a new car, much less one that's more expensive. Plus, even if they were more assessable, would the entire nation really want to switch over to a different sort of car? People's cars currently, right now, run on gas. And to have gas, you need oil. And at the moment, we're being supplied by oil from countries that kind of hate us. I agree clean energy is better, but its not in the cards atm

  • @AlienWebguy Where does the electricity for the car come from? Where does the French car get the power for the compressor for the compressed air? You have to reliably generate power and wind and solar can't do it.Those 2 sources can provide maybe 10% of our required power. What the heck are you going to do to generate the rest

  • If you people think it is "YOUR" oil. You are sadly mistaken. Oil companies will just sell it to the highest bidders. More Record profits in the future. They just want all the land. Sick of all the lies!!Wake up people!!

  • say that over on 3 ways to lower gas prices plz. we really need to wake EVERYONE up

  • @ckekinit Wacko

  • @ckekinit Certainly they'll sell it for the best price. At least the supply will be located in a slightly more politically friendly country. We also wouldn't be sending our money to governments run by people who hate our guts.

  • Aug. 21, 2008

BARROW, Alaska - Rapidly melting ice on Alaska's Arctic is opening up a new navigable ocean in the extreme north, allowing oil tankers, fishing vessels and even cruise ships to venture into a realm once trolled mostly by indigenous hunters.Scientists say global warming has melted the polar sea ice each summer to half the size it was in the 1960s, opening vast stretches of water. Last year, it thawed to its lowest level on record.

  • The oil bulls are back.

West Texas crude oil surged $5.96 to $121.52 a barrel this morning as tensions grew between Russia and Georgia and the dollar fell against the euro.

Goldman Sachs on Wednesday reiterated its position that oil prices will be at $149 a barrel by the end of the year.

A report on U.S. leading economic indicators showed a 0.7% decline in July, worse than economists' expectations of a 0.2% drop.

  • this is what im talking about(But when the Commodity Futures Trading Commission examined Vitol's books last month, it found that the firm was in fact more of a speculator, holding oil contracts as a profit-making investment rather than a means of lining up the actual delivery of fuel. Even more surprising to the commodities markets was the massive size of Vitol's portfolio -- at one point in July, the firm held 11 percent of all the oil contracts on the regulated New York Mercantile Exchange.)

  • The discovery revealed how an individual financial player had gained enormous sway over the oil market without the knowledge of regulators. Other CFTC data showed that a significant amount of trading activity was concentrated in the hands of just a few speculators.

  • you think ppl are not paying attention your wrong. this poster can see pretty clearly how you? This whole thing is political theatre Don't you see? The republicans know that drilling wont bring down the price of gas theyre just trying to save their seats this fall. Why would the oil companies sell us cheap oil when we'll gladly pay over $120 dollars a barrel? when he talks about shale oil because the only way oil companies can profit from shale oil is if they sell it for $130 a barrel

  • this is what you should be talking about right here this previous poster got it right. get a clue ppl(Drill NOW? Why so fast? Before Bush gets pushed out? I smell something, and it stinks. Prices mysteriously skyrocket, prompting consumers to accept any solution put in front of them. Come on people, think. Hasn't this administration done enough damage to this country? We trusted them to run our country, and they ran it in the ground.)

  • There are about 1.8 trillion barrels of easily recoverable shale oil that we currently know of in the US. (about 6 trillion total, but much isn't currently worth harvesting due to low concentration) We us about 21 million barrels a day. ( a little less) With just the 1.8 trillion barrels that are considered easy to harvest we could run the nation for over 200 years. We just need to actually harvest it. Current methods can safely extract this oil at a profit when selling at 35$ a barrel.

  • Many people fear global warming caused by burning so much oil. It's hard to be sure about whether or not this is a threat due to the lies of media of various political persuasions however it is not an issue to be ignored. To deal with this issue we should consider atmospheric processing stations to pull carbon out of air (or add to it depending on out needs). This would allow us to control the temperature of the earth and it really isn't that hard to do.

  • $35 dollars? Thats bullshit. Even wiki says $95 a barrel, and dutch shell hasn't even processed 1 barrel yet. We do have atmospheric cleaning stations, they are called trees.

  • As to your $95 a barrel, i have no clue where you got that. I mean if you just google search it you will get page after page of information though you have to watch the dates, a lot are from 2005. As far as the trees, sure they help, but we can not control the levels of atmospheric pollution created by every nation in the world. Why not have a safeguard in place so that we are not screwed if things start getting bad?

  • That's because official estimates say Libya can produce oil for one dollar a barrel. At $110 on the world market, the simple math gives Libya a $109 profit margin. (you should read more)

  • A dollar a barrel? I would like to know where to read that. It seems very improbable, but that doesn't mean it is impossible. At any rate it doesn't matter, if they can do that, they still are not selling it at a reasonable price. We need companies here drilling and undercutting OPEC to force the prices down.

  • do understand how the world maket works, just because you drill here on your own soil doesnt mean that the crude extracted is ALL yours it doesnt work that way.

  • the prices arent going to change, its a world market. who wants to wait 7 years anyway im doing someting about it NOW

  • 1- America has put more pollution into the atmosphere than any other country in the last 100 years, by a mile. They still do.

Shale oil is not easily recovered, so much so that it is not even considered a PROVEN RESOURCE!. Look at any graph of oil resources by country, you will see that the U.S. is at 2%. That is because shale is not considered PROVEN.

  • 2 years ago, exxon paid 20$ to pump the oil. Then sold it for 60$, that is a profit of 40$ per barrel.

Now they still pay 20$, but now sell it for

    113$ a barrel. That is a profit of 93$

So now oil companies make more money per barrel of oil they pump. That is where the vast majority of "big oils" profits come from, Not from the actual selling of gasoline.

  • Even though they do make an additional 8-10 cents per gallon of gas sold. But thats not all, Oil is sold at that 140$ a barrel, to make many many products. Plastics, tires, oils, packaging material, and 1000s of more products. People need to understand, that the 9 cent profit on the gasoline, is not where it stops. Its only where the money begins to pile up.

  • did you say EASILY RECOVERABLE lol thats too funny

  • 1997 Suzuki Swift to electric. The goal is to illustrate that the process is not THAT hard or expensive, and really is a good option for the post-petroleum age we are about to enter. The coolest thing about electric cars is that the electricity can be generated from many non-fossil source... Solar, Wind, Biofuel, etc. 1kw solar/wind 3k , donor car and ev kit and batts 3.5k.........im done :]

  • I agree that we ought to drill if it will reduce prices for gasoline, but it seems to me that we need a longer term solution as well. I hate high gas prices personally, but they seem to be the one thing spurring effective research on alternatives. Isn't there a market based solution that can create incentives for more research besides high gas prices? Newt makes the point about needing long term solutions, but I'd really like to see more detail about what spurs technology on after prices fall.

  • addressing the risks of climate change: ExxonMobil's views and actions

There is increasing evidence that the earth's climate has warmed on average about 0.7 C in the last century. Many global ecosystems, especially the polar areas, are showing signs of warming. CO2 emissions have increased during this same time period — and emissions from fossil fuels and land use changes are one source of these emissions.

  • At its Baytown Texas laboratories, ExxonMobil Chemical used its product-design experience to develop high-heat-resistant polymers, while Tonen Chemical advanced a film-manufacturing process that combines multiple polymers into a single ultra-porous sheet that's thinner than a human hair. The result of their collaboration is a proprietary separator film that not only improves safety performance and reliability but also boosts the flow of electricity and extends battery life.

  • David Anderson says energy bears are just not facing reality. He points to U.S. Department of Energy research that forecasts global growth in demand rising to at least 110 million barrels of oil per day in a decade from the current level of 85 million. "To get to that level while supply from the best and biggest fields in the Middle East, North Sea and Gulf of Mexico is shrinking will be very tough," he says. "Oil prices are going up to ration supply, short of a total global economic meltdown."

  • Chevron recommends that we get more oil from existing fields, search for new reserves, meanwhile perfecting hybrids. They tell us to support research that will allow wind, solar and hydrogen to become more viable parts of the energy equation. They urge government to create policies that will support us environmentally as well economically. They remind us that as consumers, we must be proactive. "Inaction is not an option" We all need to work together to solve the energy problem.

  • Drill NOW? Why so fast? Before Bush gets pushed out? I smell something, and it stinks. Prices mysteriously skyrocket, prompting consumers to accept any solution put in front of them. Come on people, think. Hasn't this administration done enough damage to this country? We trusted them to run our country, and they ran it in the ground.

  • The reason oil prices are skyrocketing is not because there isn't enough oil to satisfy demand right now but because more supply is going to be needed in the future to make up for new demand coming online from the developing world.

For reasons that become less convincing with every rise in the price of foreign oil, the Democrats discourage offshore production. Environmentalists have control over Dems. Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less. Oh, don't forget to check your tire pressure too.

  • "Oh man, I sure wish I wasn't addicted to heroin. I guess that means I need more heroin."

Invest in renewable energy sources here. Invest in renewable energy sources now. Never pay for gasoline again.

Any economist will tell you rising prices are a telltale sign of scarcity. Does that mean we should use what little we have left FASTER? Get a clue, America.

  • Yes, I'm addicted to food too! and air! Crap what should I do?

  • is your argument that no other solution exists and that we will be stuck using fossil fuels for the rest of eternity? because I feel bad for our grandkids. Biking from San Francisco to New York, and rowing from Los Angeles to Tokyo doesn't sound too fun.

  • also the saudies increased production by 500000barrels a day in the usa demand is way down per day that made the price go down not annoucing some far away drilling which would require new refineries. Big oil knows where the oil is in Canada and the Usa and other places but don't go looking for it until the price is high enough. they have been saying we are at peak oil and all this other bs yet no government has mandated fuel economy, used electric cars etc enough of big oil monopoly

  • People that think drilling here wouldn't lower gas prices are idiots! Oil prices are based on oil futures. Say for example the news reports tonight that there is a suspected up rising in Iran, the price of oil tomorrow would rise $5 a barrel. Same would be true if the Democrats passed President Bush's lift on off shore drilling. In the mean time while we wait for the Dems to give an up or down vote on America drilling their own oil we can save just as much by properly inflating our tires LMFAO!.

  • It would go down, but only temporary. There is not enough oil under america to make any real difference. WIKI- check it out.

  • Where do you get your information that there is not enough oil under America to make a real difference? In the future, America begins with a capital A. She's earned it!

  • Wikipedia, for one. There is enough oil for 11 years at current levels of consumption, under america. Thing is though, opec will just cut production when america starts upping production, thus price won't change a whole lot.

  • Wikipedia? The site that people can just add their opinion with the click of a mouse? Come on. Now this is where I get my info. Friends & family that work in the oil business. Friend worked on a boom ship that locates oil pockets. Worlds largest oil pocket is off the coast of my state just ready to be taped. Think about that for a sec. Worlds largest. West of the Rockies there is 800 billion barrels — three times Saudi Arabia's. More than 11yrs just in those two places.

  • You think america has more than the saudis? You are on crack. Name one reliable source on the internet that will back that. PROVEN OIL.

If america has had all that oil all along, why buy from the rest of the world all this time? I said wiki because it's a well known site. Maybe you know a better one.

  • This whole thing is political theatre!!! Don't you see? The republicans know that drilling won't bring down the price of gas..they're just trying to save their seats this fall. Think about it..Why would the oil companies sell us cheap oil when we'll gladly pay over $120 dollars a barrel? And don't listen to him when he talks about shale oil because the only way oil companies can profit from shale oil is if they sell it for $130 a barrel...I for one would want the price a little lower

  • The problem is guys like cladner that think america has 3 times the oil resources of saudi arabia. If that was true, then drilling would be a good way to lower the price.

Shale oil lol. Theres lots there, but like you said, by the time they extract it they can't make a profit unless they can sell it for $130 a barrel.

Cladner, quote a source to back that up lol.

  • Right lets totally just fuck up the last forests and natural escapes we have in our country so fat ass, lazy, obese americans can continue driving everywhere for less cost. this is bullshit.

  • So we should cover the landscape with huge wind mills and solar panels?

  • tuber, you are an idiot!

  • actually the huge increases were in the last two years when the dems had control of both the house and senate

  • yeah, you're right, the democrats have caused the price of oil to go up.

wait, how did they do that? exactly?

they passed the "We want high oil prices" law, didn't they?

no, you might want to talk to Phil "Enron Loophole" Graham, who got energy trading deregulated, allowing speculators to buy oil contracts with only 10% margin.

the morotorium on offshore drilling was just lifted by Bush on JULY 14 2008. why did it take him so long? hunh?

  • yes true and gbush sr was the one who put the ban in early90's keeping tire pressure to proper inflation would save 3% and the tire ass said that 85% of cars are not at the right pressure bush now saying that he would talk to iran has alot to do with prices coming down combined that reserves are up as people aren't using as much as it is too costly

  • Wake up America!!!! We do need to drill everywhere possible for oil. We also need to utilize wind power, solar energy, and nuclear power. While our gas prices are going down we should be looking for alternative sources.

  • Does anybody believe this stupid jackass? Prices will not be affected for YEARS by issuing new leases. Moron.

  • Bullshit, DrillNow and the Prices will Fall in the Future. Sit back and Bitch and watch prices go to 10.00 a gal..Grow a brain! It's simple math= MORE OIL = CHEAPER GAS. Stupid People

  • You are so rightwe should do nothing. Of course if we had acted years ago instead of listening to people like you we would have the oil....

Oh yeah, why is it that if we have the middle eastincrease their production prices will come down but not if we drill our own.

  • I'm sorry, where did I, or anyone, say we should do nothing? Pay attention.

If you want to point blame, go back to Ronald Reagan, sacred cow to all conservatives, who mocked Carter's proclamation that we would never again import more foreign oil than we did in 1977.

Reagan was owned by oil and upon occupying the white house he scoffed at Carter's vision and immediately dismantled the solar panels Carter had put up, a powerful symbol of conservative regression when it comes to energy.

  • Fuck off, Newt.

Go cheat on your wife some more.

  • you are probably one of those tolerant, include all liberals. Too bad you have such a closed mind

  • Obama is against clean, safe, & cheap nuclear energy so that we rely more on coal pollution and further bankrupt America pursuing technologies that aren't anywhere near ready OR even effective at taking a dent out of our growing need. Obama's against domestic energy exploration.

John McCain has the leadership & experience to know we need to DO EVERYTHING we can to solve our energy crisis & not continue to pay $700 billion to foreign oil exporters a year!

Obama = $8/gal gasoline! Just watch!

  • The republicans ran all three branches of government most of this decade and now all of the sudden it's a crisis? Now they want to do something? Come on this is bullshit, nothing will come of it. We should be looking to the future and moving away from fossil fuels anyway. For years renewables have been treated as a side show, a cute fuzzy step child to "real" energy. I just wonder if the government had put the same priority on renewables years ago that it does on wars how far we would be today.

  • Like Jay Leno said Democrats are saying it would take 10-yrs and thy starting saying it 10-yrs ago!China & Cuba are drilling off the east Forida coast but,we can't.Israel will be attacking Iran soon and gas will be $8 to $9 a gallon !We will be lucky to get much if any oil when it breaks loose over there. I guess Democrat's want Americans to ride bicycles and truckers to use covered wagons! Why can't we do it all drill, research, nuclear power and higher car standards !

  • I want lower gases prices but only oil companies benefit for more leases on the OCS. They are not even drilling on the 68 million acres of federal land they have access to NOW! They can't even do right now even if they want to drill b/c they don't even have the rigs to get the oil out (rigs made in Malasia.

  • That's because there is no oil on that property!

  • 65% of the oil that gets into the ocean is from natural seepage, most of the rest of the oil that gets into the water is from ships and boats. Only a very small percentage is spilled by drilling platforms. Liberals are paranoid, and never offer solutions.

  • this guy is a fraud #1supplier of foreign oil to the USA is CANADA what a idiot the prices have fallen bc reserves are not falling bc ppl cant afford 4 a gallon gas you can drill as much as you like but you have to build REFINERIES you douche bag typical repub douche who knows nothing and wants USA cititzens to subsidize the offshore drilling rigs so that exxon can make another $13 billion in a quater drill now takes 5 yrs + that is fact and if brazilian has found oil the price didn't DROP

  • I think we should sit on our asses and bitch. That should fix it. The deal is basic economics of supply and demand. The more oil we have the less it's worth. The more we make for ourselves the less we buy from people who use the profits made off use to try and kill us.

  • I wonder how much the oil companies paid him to do this?

  • However much the price of gas will drop after prices go down.

  • the government has failed the U.S.

  • Yes it will make a difference. We won't be sending Billions up top of Billions to countries that want to see us dead.

  • All of this is lies!!! It won't fucking matter to the price of gas because there is NO FUCKING MAGIC WAND TO CHANGE OIL INTO GAS!!!

You have to refine oil to make it useable at the gas pump!! Don't ask yourselves why aren't we drilling for oil. Ask yourselves why are Exxon and others shutting down refineries? Hmmmm, they wouldn't do that to drive up the price now would they??

And if you think Brazil will sell their gas for 2 bucks a gallon then you're a whackjob!!

  • swaggajee: You must now retract everything you typed. As soon as Bush lifted the ban on offshore drilling, prices have dropped.

You argue that it will take too long to refine oil. Hmmm...how long do you think it will take to get the millions of cars off the roads that aren't hybrids?

Why not drill offshore & see what happens? What is the real harm?

The common-sense, or lack thereof, of most democrats/liberals is simply amazing!!

  • I don't have to retract a damn thing!! The prices stalling out because of anything Bush has done is complete bullshit!!

It's because Exxon has seen the American consumers cut way back on their spending on gas.

What's the harm? Ummm beaches covered with tons of dead fish and birds which will result in even less tourism that America has been experiencing.

The lack of your common sense isn't amazing because it's common for right wing douchebags like yourself.

  • LOL...you just can't admit it. The VERY NEXT DAY after Bush lifted the ban, oil prices dropped.

Yea, I grew up on the coast. No such thing will happen to the beaches. And LMAO...your worried about fish & tourism? How about people wouldn't even be able to afford to drive to the coast w/higher gas prices.

You still haven't answered. Do you think a short term, temporary fix would be to drill (or threaten that we will) or, have EVERY American replace their car with a hybrid?

  • markets have moved overseas to fight insanely high union imposed labor costs in America) and the run away printing of money (backed by nothing of value here in America) has caused the dollar to become more worthless on the international market. And that's where our oil comes from. It's paid for with dollars that become more worthless everyday

  • what bs high labour costs the average worker is making less and less and the ceo to workers percentage has gone up dramitically plus they have no accountability they get huge buyouts regardless of how much they fuck up their company yes the usa dollar going down has affect on the price of oil so does bush invading iraq and talking about invading iran since he said that he might talk to iran the price has dropped also you need more refineries before you can do anymore drilling

  • So, America enjoy your $4.00 per gallon gasoline. Your dollar is now worth 0.62 Euro-Cents. The lack of American production of GNP, the massive trade deficit (as labor

  • congress continues to sit on their hands. It is clear to anyone with a brain that this is required to get this mess that they largely created straightened out.

    DRILL DRILL DRILL NOW !!!!!!!!

    C.YAhn

  • the oil the saudies send the money is loaned backed to the usa bush is friends with saudies don't believe this bs these oil barens are up to no good they are going to control iraqs oil shortly whats next they will be able to dictate to almost ever country and control everyone they have the power and the money this guy slogan sounds like carl rove wrote it don't trust him this is bs

  • wrong it will take 5-10 years to bring on linw and it will go on the world market plus they big oil companies just want the leases how do u know that they pretend or drill were they know there isn't any to drive the oil prices higher? usa gets most oof their foreign oil from CANADA not foreign dictators as newt bullshitter is implying Canada supplies the most foreign oil to the Usa how about making fuel economy standards like they do in Europe stop believing fixed news stop believing in Gwbush

  • bam6956: I live in the UK and I've been watching the developement of this crisis in the US. We've been struggling with this problem in Europe for many years and the UK has had to deal with one of the highest living costs in the world.

A recent economic survey indicates that the total sum of all forms of taxation is close to 65% - that's a staggering amount and the price of oil and other forms of energy is largely responsible.

Fuel economy is a prudent measure - this problem will not be .. cont .

  • yes but you have health care 45 million americans don't have it americans are dumb they believe that drilling will start tomorrow and the price will drop big oil wants the leases not to drill if america had the same effic standards as europe they would drop oil consumtion by more than a 1/3 that is more then drilling any oil there is oil out there but they don't want to deal with chavez bc he wants to keep the oil rev were saudies lend the money back to usa plus can is usa biggest supplier

  • bam6956: resolved overnight. The world has a finite amount of natural energy resources - they will eventually run out.

I wonder how future generations will look back upon these times ... after all, they will be our children.

  • but the bs usa media talks about middleeast they are nothing but spin and not facts start making elec cars have mandatory fuel economy make hybrids a standard it isn't that hard right now there is lots of oil but the oil companies don't want to invest to lower their value of their product when will you get that newt is dumb usa gets mostforeign oil by can by usa companies and drilling takes 5y+ and will have little impact and big oil will cry and get gov to pay to build the rigs and refineries

  • Here's a thought, maybe there was an "under the table" deal between the president and the leaders of the countries we get our oil from... Buy our oil or else we declare war...

  • I'm a liberal but somehow this man has always reached me. I'm concerned about environmental issues, but things are reaching critical mass in the economy. We're in a transitional period, and should be using everything at our disposal to lower costs. The "energy tax" has immidate and real world consequenses, and the sooner we lower it, the better things will be.

  • Mr Newt for president!!!

  • can someone tell me why they make it illegal for us to oil, in our own country or even near our country?

  • yes mindbullets I would like to know the "official" reasons for that and the real reasons as well. Anybody?

  • Because the tree-hugging democrats say the priority is the environment & that we should spend money towards alternative fuels. While most agree switching to alternative fuel sources, that will take years. Most want to drill now WHILE working towards an alternative. Also, this gives the democrats more control. They used to try to persuade us to get rid of the big SUVs. Now, because of gas prices, dealers can't give them away. Democrats got what they want

  • "Because the tree-hugging democrats say the priority is the environment & that we should spend money towards alternative fuels"

    - that is the official reason but we know their solutions wont solve the problem will it, it is more about increasing their own power.

  • "Also, this gives the democrats more control. They used to try to persuade us to get rid of the big SUVs"

    - Yes they have been allover the SUV, another example of selective "criticism". Who produces the SUV's, it surely isn't a liberal friend of theirs is it.... It is all political games. But, what it looks like to me is: the democrats have no problem damaging american economy. They (almost) act like socialist moles, I think they are way too often working against the interest of the U.S.

  • lol, do you mean the "official" what they tell us or the real reason, im assuming its because of greed in some way, and people are on leashes, owned by others with money... in the constitution im almost surfe that it says that the people have the right, when and or if the gov. becomes corrupt, to overthrow the goverenment, and usurp power... so its iether the great depression #2, or another revolutionary war of some sort...

  • We are inevitably going to have to drill for every drop of oil on Earth one day. We could have done it years ago at $1.50 gal, we could do it now at $5, or we will do it at $15 in ten years. Once its all gone, we will hopefully be on alternative fuel sources, but now would be a good time to drill and prevent the $15 gal in the future.

  • Brazil's tapped their Atlantic oil? I thought their energy independence was directly related to their sugarcane ethanol.

  • PS- If you want to know more about US inventories, the EIA prints it on their website. Just google us oil inventory data. I tried to post the hyperlink, but YouTube won't allow it.

  • Unfortunately, shortages will become a reality. I don't think many people are prepared for it. You need to make adjustments to get your own house in order- it's not pretty, but it's reality. Do what you can now, while your dollars still buy something. It scares me to read that Fannie and Freddie are in such trouble. That could have a DEVASTATING effect on this economy. Especially if Bernake prints more paper to bail them out.

  • You're right, we don't need more reserves, we just need to extract them faster. That is where our problem lies.

  • Yes, let's regulate these guys like we failed to regulate the investment banks. They may be pushing the price up a bit, but there are fairly strong fundamentals behind this run up. Demand is increasing and supply is having a hard time keeping pace.

  • Wrong! What do you know about the s&d of the oil market? Do you know about the oil speculators? Do you see long lines at the gas stations, do you see stations running out of fuel? So how is the supply more than the demand? Name one town, in one state whose gas station ran out of fuel and couldn't get more gas for days or weeks. That would be a supply problem wouldn't it. May 12 2003 $1.68/gal July 11 2008 $4.00. Do you mean to tell me in 5 years we doubled oil consumption?Never happened b4.

  • TYPO - I meant how is the demand more than the supply.
