  • Heyy Love your car I own a 90 corvette(L98) with heddman headers, summit racing T-56 Aluminum heads, high flow cat, Trick flow 24lb injectors, BBK 52mm Throttle body, K&N intake(with the snorkel) 700r4 rebuilt trans with GM stage II shift kit. Ive been thinkin about gettin a LT4 cam, I heard all the trouble u have to go through with this, higher stall, cut the dowel pin, 1.6 roller rockers, etc. But do u like this setup u have?

  • @klatu62 A vette costs around 50-60 grand. No real point to having a corvette other than the name and the body design. You can get the same amount of power or more with a camaro. Personally, i would way rather have a 1988 camaro than a 1988 corvette.

    2. saves more gas than a 350 but not same power of course

    3. you can upgrade to have the same HP or more than a 350 and itll still be a gas saver but of course time is money

    Very good points. Only downside was that STOCK they have less hp than the 350 STOCK and that some small internal parts were made of plastic. Not hating, just saying.  Gotta love GM products!

  • sure did. most Irocs had a 350, its gettin harder to find one with a manual tranny now

  • @cmsch180 im 100% sure iv read several stuff on these cars ( mostly camaros ) but iv read there was no 350 manuals stock. reason why is because they were afraid the body would flex with the extra power and im sure there was an couple other resons. there could be 1 very limited amount of people know of but that would be VERY rare and this is just from what iv read.

  • well shoot...if that thing is that rare i should've bought it, it was $200 and the only thing wrong with it was a knocking rod, which is nothing...small block chevys are soo easy to rebuild. and thanks for the info on that

  • @sspelletier well could you get me a trusted link saying that? not trying to be an a-hole here but iv never heard of a 350tpi camaro thats completly stock have a manual also how there was only auto's avalible with 305tpi's tell 87 then you could get both its because the manual tranny was barely strong enought for the 305tpi engine. i'll get more into this and see what i can find.

  • @cmsch180 no there was no diffrence with engines. they couldnt use a tranny that may fail in the middle of a race because of to high of top speed or to much torque.

    No 1LE Thirdgen got a 350tpi and a T5. It was either a 305tpi with a T5 or a 350tpi with the 700r4.

    There is a lot of conflicting information about this subject. There are many people out there who will also tell you that you could get a 350/T5 in the later year '87 Iroc-z's. Honestly, who knows. The reason was not body roll. I'm sure there were a few built, but they could not offer a warrantee to the general public because the 350tpi (L98) could very easily destroy a T5 transmission. The 700r4 held up to them extremely well so that was the only trans offered.

  • @aarontheman38 ya im sure there was a few but they were probaly destroyed or had the auto swapped in place of it. because how would they exactly know if the manual with the 350tpi would hold but i really dont belive there was any for the general public if there was it was only test vehicles.

  • as a project i took a 305 bought a 4340 steel crank forged rods and pistons edelbrock victor jr intake, comp solid roller cam and lifters with a .570, .576 lift, patriot performance heads with 220cc runners and 2.055 and 1.60 valves and drilled the mains from two bolt to four bolts and at the flywheel about 726hp, i have a 1984 camaro that now has a 377 but for a while a drag raced it with a 305 that i did dyno at 558 horses on a buget

  • Dude thaaank you, i've been listening to people rag on the 305 forever, i mean its shabby stock yes, i'll give them that, but the potential on them is limitless, people dont understand that with just a little work you could turn them into monsters

    I have a 305 in my 91' Camaro at the moment, been planning on swapping the auto to a T5 5-speed or T56 6-speed (prefferably), im also planning on either building my 305 for high output or swapping for an LS1 or so...any advice?

  • i built a 305 put a 400 crank in it 6inch rods .40 over dome pistons air gap intake 292 .501 lift cam big boy dart heads it was a 341 stroker i ran a 6.75 in the 1/8th before i sold trhe car..
