1. REPUBLICANS ARE EVIL. Two massive tax cuts for the VERY RICH under Bush which were NOT paid for. 2. They ran up EIGHT TRILLION OF DEBT! When Clinton left office we had a surplus (ZERO DEBT). 3. They spend A TRILLION on the Iraq war TO DATE. 4. They DON'T want to give healthcare to the citizens in the RICHEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD under a plan that IS PAID FOR. 5. Republicans ALSO used reconcilation! 6. They perpetuate FEAR MONGERING AND SCARE TACTICS. THEY ARE EVIL AND DISGUST ME!
I love how you have no choice but to pay for the health care plan your employer offers but the same insurance company can refuse to cover what you are already paying for. Yeah! Git govmint offa ma back!!!
Do we continue with the plan as it is? More than half of the people in the US has no insurance and are terminally ill. Take the politics out and look at the real issues. There are many people dying becuase they do not have healthcare. I don't care what happens...people deserve to live.
if it leads to more stable and feasible costs, then it's what we want and need. you are saying that single payer is the boogeyman, when it's working a helluvalot better than anything we've got right now in other countries.
A monopoly on a market never leads to lower costs in the real world. The only way countries with single payer systems like Canada lower their costs is through PRICE FIXING e.g. forcibly lower wages of doctors and expenditures on equipment, and yes rationing of care to control the costs to the state.
Go read the articles on people in the UK delivering babies in elevators due to NHS bed shortages, or people pulling their own teeth because they can't get a dentist. This is real world single payer.
Or I can go on how my family have had to pay thousands and thousands of dollars in dental costs, possibly over 10K when all of us are added together. Also, our dental insurance refused to cover any of our procedures when we finally got one through my father's job. Thank god for our efficient private system! I'd rather yank my teeth out for free it seems than pay a thousands dollars for someone to do so at this rate!
This is where the arguments of the anti-public option people make no sense. They say a government run option is going to be terrible, with high costs and poor service. But then they also say the supposedly superior private plans won't be able to compete with it, that they'll somehow be put out of business.
Also, sorry to pile another set of comments on you, but a basic Google search is bringing up an academic article from 2 years ago on TennCare that shows a lack of funding on a per person basis and overall, even nationally. It was found to be the cheapest program in the nation, you cut costs NOT by reducing payments nor the quality of care, that is how TennCare seems to have failed. That is NOT how public insurance in Europe nor any other successful public insurance program cuts their costs.
Portugal will be paying for his flights, his boarding prior to the surgery, and his medical stay. Where would the elderly get this good of a treatment in our country? You must understand TennCare was underfunded, a conservative state such as Tennessee didn't seem to be willing to put up adequate funding, perhaps they could not afford to do so? Also European nations, due to negotiations with pharmaceutical companies HAVE cut cost, hell just look across the border at Canada's cheap, same drugs.
Those of you who want health care from the government can go to DMV today to get it. 'Cause that's what you're gonna get anyway...a long wait in line for jack squat. There still will be good health care, but it will be driven underground and cost a fortune.
20 minutes to get my license?? God no...I might have to wait 3-4 hours on average in my emergency room. OH WAIT that already happens now, hell my dad had to wait 4 hours for 4 stitches, a stitch an hour, holding the gash in his eyebrow together. Talk about your private company efficiency!!
They can take their health care bill and shove it. I don't want the inevitable health-care rationing, even more government intrusion, and tax hikes, for starters! This is absolutely the WRONG way to go about making necessary changes to America's health care system. Allowing competition across state lines and TORT reform are common-sense approaches. These bills are about CONTROL.
The only rationing is what the insurance companies themselves are doing, by using loopholes to rescind insurance policies when patients need them most and refusing to pay for necessary treatments. A public option is in no way a takeover. It just provides an alternative to the near monopoly of the current insurers.
Pizza, why haven't you already linked it? And which bill are you talking about? The final house bill?
So let me guess: Death panels? Forced atheism? (I made that one up myself) You know anytime I hear some talk about "drinking koolaid" I just assume they are a limbaugh-listening-lying-fucktard.
So, I'm ready to hear your specifics.. and page numbers too.. I can hardly wait!!! I'm going to sit here and sip on my koolaid while you get your case together!
"Death Panel language"??? Are you fucking kidding me? Do you mean the end-of-life counseling for terminal cases? Are you suggesting that dying people should not be allowed to speak with a counselor to help them deal with their own death?
And why do you misrepresent it as "death panels" deciding who lives and who dies? How can you be so dishonest?
I have not read the whole thing. However I know people who are reading it and that was some of the information I had already seen that I re posted.
We do NOT need this boondoggle and this is coming from someone who does not have health insurance.
Why don't I have insurance?? Well because last time the Democrats messed with health care, they made it so my costs skyrocketed because I was no longer able to get my group health insurance.
Trust me, none of us will be happy if this passes.
Actually last time health reform was brought up in 94, costs went down, and standards to be accepted went down so as to temporary appease people. Just watching commercials from that time alone is enough to confirm this never mind the articles on it.
I wish, I could no longer buy my group health insurance after Hillary Care. I had to buy group insurance for just my location. My costs were much higher, but manageable at the time.
But within 5 years, I could no longer afford to absorb the costs of my managers. My costs had doubled in that time.
So I had to change to just covering myself with an individual plan. when it went from $750 to $1000 with NO claims in the last year (not even a doctor visit) I fired them and have used a HSA for the last several years (and have $20K to show for it)
the Republicans have several Amendments that would help drive the cost of insurance down, the Democrats will not even let them in the room.
Yes that it is ideal if a public option is worked out so that the government can negotiate with pharmaceutical companies, this would overall reduce the cost for medication, public healthcare will overall save money and drive down costs. The Republican amendments have one thing as a main focus, making private companies money the main focus should be to better our quality of healthcare, and increase coverage. The public option ensures this without giving tax money to private healthcare companies.
If you really think the government is going to cut the cost of insurance by a public option, I feel sorry for you. We are doomed.
Do a quick search on TennCare. It nearly bankrupted the state of Tennessee. Hospitals like the one in my homesteads community are going broke because they don't pay enough to cover the costs. (my dad was on the Board of Directors before his death last year)
I have relatives in Europe who don't have to worry about such things as getting a HSA and pay tens of thousands to take care of medical expenses. The elderly are taken care of as well, I have a grandfather in Portugal, technically in a series of islands owned by Portugal, very rural. He's gone blind suddenly in the last few weeks, he can see out of one of eyes now due to surgery, and due to technological limitations of his area, will be flown to the capital of Lisbon to get back his vision .
"If you have health insurance, noone is going to take it away."
That's a flat out lie. If you have health insurance through your employer and Obama tells them they can save 50% by sticking your dumb ass on the public option, THEY ARE GOING TO TAKE YOUR INSURANCE WHEN THEY BOOT YOU. You're buying lies from communists.
This is perfect. A shame it's exactly what the birther crowd has been programmed to believe. America is supposed to be home of the brave! Anyway, great video.
"We're going to have to, if you're very old, we're not going to give you all that technology and all those drugs for the last couple of years of your life to keep you maybe going for another couple of months. It's too expensive...so we're going to let you die." Robert Reich, Advisor to Obama

The Public Option is just the first step in the push toward a single payer system, like Canada which has a total takeover of healthcare.
So what she says is not true is actually a misrepresentation.
