It's simple numbers, my 02 GT with cold air intake, 70mm throttle-body, Bassani cat back and x-pipe, and Pypes high-flow cats, with a tune puts out 330 hp at the wheels, vs the 05's 300. This combined with the 99-04's being lighter than the 05-09's makes it a clear killer.
