The study found that no less than 24,000 americans DIE every year because they are uninsured and cannot afford healthcare. That's 2,000 people EVERY MONTH. If everyone was like-minded we could simply cancel our insurance plans, then refuse to pay any subsequent medical bills until the system is reformed to our satisfaction. Voting with the dollar is pretty much the only option we have available.

My question for people that support government health care; do you really think the government can run health care? Think about it, what have they actually ran with out screwing it up or making it way more expensive than it needs to be? And who really wants higher taxes? The only way to pay for this is higher taxes. They are already going to go up to pay for all the bail outs.

I live in a country with a government health system (which I top up with some private insurance). I don't mind paying a little bit extra in tax for the peace of mind that I can get medical care whenever I need it without fear of bankruptcy, or being dropped from insurance etc.
USPS - For Half of a dollar I can walk a few feet to my mailbox, and in a few days the freaking piece of mail can go across the country right to someone elses mailbox. everyone in the country gets to enjoy this. So there, they run the freaking post office.

Insurance covers many areas. We are not talking about auto, home or flood insurance....we are talking about healthcare insurance. And it is a goldmine.
I think if you did your research then you would realize that those numbers are fudged big time. You are reading stats straight from the health care industry lobby rather than legit profit numbers. They are measuring their profits against total health care spending and not their company revenues. You should also know that the companies also automatically skim 15-20% of customer premiums for administrative costs and profits.
Forbes of course would not tell you that because they are anti-reform.
How about the U.S. income tax system? When originally implemented, it collected 1 percent from the highest income citizens. Look at it today. A few years back to government published a "Tax Simplification Guide", and the guide itself was over 1,000 pages long! This is what happens when politicians mess with something that should be simple.

America is and always has been a liberal country. Poll after poll proves this. Two-thirds of Americans want more environmental laws, more government help, more gun control, etc.
Because this information confutes the view that America is a conservative nation--which the right want to believe--conservatives ignore it.

Yes, that is why gay marriage gets voted down in the most liberal states of all. Give me some examples, and the polls to prove it. All the polls I've seen show liberals to be a maximum of 20%, and 8% of registered voters. Take the current senate bill on health care, several recent polls show 60-70% in opposition. Americans as a whole do want health care reform though, real reform, not the phony tax bill.

Independents make up over half the country. According to three recent polls, when asked in 2010 would you vote for a republican or democrat 58-62% said republican. One only has to look at history, the power shifts back and forth.

True Joxman2k. But it's my understanding that it is illegal for a hospital or clinic to deny healthcare services for someone who needs them. There may be stipulations on that which I am not aware of.
Either way, it would be impossible to rally the majority of Americans to financially boycott the healthcare industry. The US population is too big and diverse. Sometimes I wonder if the US is just too big to be a functioning democracy.

I live in a country with a government health system (which I top up with some private insurance). I don't mind paying a little bit extra in tax for the peace of mind that I can get medical care whenever I need it without fear of bankruptcy, or being dropped from insurance etc.

Would you like me to provide you with a few dozen polls starting back in the 30's all the way to recent? Independents are overwhelmingly conservative, it is they who elected Obama. By the way, his approval rating is in the 40's now. People were so disappointed with Bush that Pee Wee Herman could have beat McCain. Do some research before opening your mouth. Actually, according to several recent polls when asked in the 2010 elections would you vote for a republican or democrat a clear majority said republican. Only 20% of the country are liberal. Polling shows independent voters are leaning to the right by a strong majority. Independents are by far the largest class of voters. Barry's approval ratings are in the 40's currently. VA, NJ, and NY 23rd being recent examples of this. The 23rd candidate ran on a conservative platform.

Health care equipment, drugs, and services may end up being rationed by the government. In other words, politics, lifestyle of patients, and philosophical differences of those in power, could determine who gets what.

THIS is the practice of ALL insurance company. They will be efficient at it, ingenious even. That will be their goal and all creativity will go towards way to DENY more claim thus making greater and greater profit. This is vastly different from say the car industry. Why don't you just consider just for a minute that peoples' health is not a commodity and that it is not best left to the market about how their health will be taken care of. In my opinion, leaving the quality of people's health care purely to market forces is immoral. Think about it.

What do you consider absolute? Is absolute something that is always there or is it something that is always the same.
For example a rock will always be there w/ out human interference. However the rock that is there will not always be the same rock, weathering, erosion naturally occur. Nothing in this world is exactlly the same as it's previous form. Be it changes by Human's or changes caused by nothing more than time passing.

it was kind of my point. electric penguin claimed morality is not an opinion that it is not subjective. i wanted him to give me an example of one rule or moral that was not subjective, that was absolute, common throughout all time, societies etc etc. i'm fully aware nothing is absolute, which was kind of my point when i asked penguin the question.

Here is the not-so-funny joke about that: in 1993,94 cost was not an issue, yet the same group of people still fear mongered, lied, distorted, and lobbied hard to kill the Clinton health care effort.
We are not talk about health research by the way. That will not be affected by universal care. The only innovation that will be stifled by allowing the govt option are the new ways in which the for profit industry will seek find new ways to raise premiums while reducing coverage.

exweez - are you really naive enough to believe that it would be better for the private sector to run things like our national security, overseeing our monetary system, the safety of our food and drugs, airline and transportation safety, our entire transportation system (including infrastructure, funding, maintenance, and laws), our weights and measuring standards, etc?

I happening to believe that access to healthcare is part of the general welfare of our country which is a principle spelled out in the preamble to our Constitution. Having a significant portion of our population that is not able to access healthcare because the interests of private enterprise trumps their right to life and good health is morally and ethically wrong.

1.) What private enterprise would want to invest in roads? And if they did how would they make a profit since that is what corporations are all about? What would happen to the roads if that company goes out of business & who would bother to fix them?

I think if you did your research then you would realize that those numbers are fudged big time. You are reading stats straight from the health care industry lobby rather than legit profit numbers. They are measuring their profits against total health care spending and not their company revenues. You should also know that the companies also automatically skim 15-20% of customer premiums for administrative costs and profits.
Forbes of course would not tell you that because they are anti-reform.

How about the U.S. income tax system? When originally implemented, it collected 1 percent from the highest income citizens. Look at it today. A few years back to government published a "Tax Simplification Guide", and the guide itself was over 1,000 pages long! This is what happens when politicians mess with something that should be simple.
