I always felt that solo performances were the best in synchro competition as the swimmer is able to improvise as she performs. This is something that cannot be done in duos/trios/team performances. Improvisation adds to artfulness and beauty of a performance.

We need more synchro teams in the NCAA as it is a beautiful sport.

good coaches want more and more, and she knew that natallia could have done a whole lot better. the only way to help someone improve is to push them, and make them know that they can be better. in the end though, she congradulated natalia and hugged her, so it's not like she just said, whatever that was horrible, she just thought that it wasn't the best.

Yeah, I know in the end she was happy, but it's just a bit of a surprise to me that they can find anything to complain about at that level. I guess that's because I know nothing of synchronized swimming :)

I think the baracuda spin is what got the coach shrugging. Natalia, at her level, could have gotten in a lot more spins. It was a great performance, but as it is when Virigine stepped in, it was not the best.

I think the coach was shrugging just because she didn't know how the judges would score her. Usually, when her siwmmers mess up (like the duet), she'll point them out and look angry. Or, if they do well, she gives a big thumbs up. By shrugging, I guess the coach was just saying that her swim wasn't outstanding, but wasn't bad either, so scores could be unpredictable.
