  • THANK YOU FOR POSTING!!!

  • simply wonderful!!!

  • man these guys are jammin'

  • That,s great!

  • hmf...might just be a trick of the eye.

  • no man i think it def is a 5 string...low f probably

  • is mark summer playing with a 5 string cello?! it looks like it in the close ups, but...that is crazy if he is...

  • I am most definitly going to buy their CD!!!!

Their talent, genius and music is beyond amazement.

  • what's the name of this song?

  • On Green Dolphin Street

    :)

  • In regards to the cello, he uses a foot pedal that switches on a pickup that gives better response for the low end to an amp beneath his chair - "boosts" the low end when he is pizzicatoing. From the web:

He uses an L.R. Baggs bridge pickup with a Baggs Para DI 5-band equalizer through a Gallien-Krueger bass amp. His music alternates frequently between bowing and playing the cello like a jazz bass. I use the pickup for pizzicato, he says, and turn it off and stick with a mic for bowing.

  • this is such a magic!!!

    absolute top!!!!

  • does anyone know where i can get turtle island sheet music?

a prompt response would be greatly appreciated :)

  • yes, I bought 8 tunes off their website I think. it was so long ago now, but it's possible for sure

  • as wonderful as this is, i would totally appreciate them playing without sheet music. but damn, mark's solo.

  • most of their music just has the chord progressions on it lol and mark solo is writen down but i think he improvises on it usually. But ive seen the sheet music for this and most of it is just slash marks in the bar and chord progressions over the bars. It looks crazy xD the music is just a guide.

  • omg tis is kool... is he playing a 5 string cello?

  • no, it's just a 4 string, amazing hey!

  • ru sure, it sounds quite low.

but it is still insane. they went to my school one year, but i wasnt there yet!! aaaahhh

  • absolutely sure, I've studied with them and filmed this concert so it's not possible to be a 5 string. what's probably confusing is that his low notes sound so rich and amazing, 3 things at work there I suspect, 1 he's an amazing player, 2 he's got and amazing cello, and three it's amplified, meaning certain frequencies are enhanced, particulary the bottom frequencies

  • however, if you look closely and count the strings, it seems like there are 5 strings, or it just may be an illusion of some sort.

  • indeed, but look past the bridge and you can count only 4 string. the illusion is the edge of the fingerboard, nice one though, I almost thought it was 5 there for a sec

  • ahh ic now.... lol

  • This is truly amazing. I love turtle island. this is the greatest thing ive heard from a quartet in a while.

  • Wow, it is awesome! great quartet!!! all the best, Lukas
