  • Whoa, what on earth were they doing to that poor woman near the beginning who had those bubbles all over her?

Or do I really want to know?

  • Women in love is good too, at least i think so.

  • One interesting fact which this film doesn't mention is that in the real-life version of these events, Baron de Laubardemont was apparently the first cousin of the mother superior who accused him of witchcraft. Coincidence? Doubtful...very doubtful (although as I understand it, there's no evidence that her actions were motivated by anything other than her cousin's ambition).

  • This might very well be my most favorite movie of all-time.

  • Greatness.

  • This film is a masterpiece that deserves an official release in its uncut version.

  • Bye, bye black bird. Awesome.

  • Grandier seems like a decent guy!

  • I wouldn't like to be a nun, it seems very boring and not very fun!

  • I've seen and heard accounts of this story ,and I thought "wow, what a story!"

  • RIP Ken

  • Well I am a Roman Catholic and I say BRAVO to Ken Russell. This film is about the misuse of power, in both political and religious forms. The man standing up for the civic rights and autonomy of Loudon is himself a Catholic priest. Human beings are human beings, some are strong, some are weak, some stand up to be counted, some turn tail and run. Here we have a good man standing up against centralising power and being taken down on trumped up charges. Sound familiar? Keep your eye on politics.

  • As a former Roman Catholic, I say BRAVO to Ken Russell for giving the beast a swift kick in the arse. Wish I could've screened this for all those Priests & Nun's who gave me such a hard time in Catholic School !!!!

  • I grew up watching some of Ken Russell movies, could I understand, not much.

He had some brilliant ideas. But I think that he gave us his soul and that is more

than anyone could ever give, Not like me.

  • RIP Ken....talent like his comes along far too infrequently. You're missed, Ken...

  • RIP maestro!!

  • RIP Ken Russell. My first time seeing this (having just watched Mark Kermodes Hell on Earth documentary - that featured all the cut scenes). I'm absolutely blown away by this film, it really is a masterpiece. Also I can see both sides with the cuts, appreciate the merit of the censored scenes but also appreciate this form of it.

  • RIP Ken Russell.

    A true visionary,

    a true talent.

  • They don't make them like that anymore.

  • Thanx for the KR uploads! Sad day today..

  • what the hell is that weird liquid they put in that gun thing :3 ? that scene was gross

  • @Gavin12345678910 I believe that was a douche, used to perform some kind of ad-hoc freaky 17th century enema, i.e. a pipe you shove up the arse and squirt liquid in to elicit emptying/cleansing of the anus. These days it's a medical procedure, or a personal procedure before anal sex, back then… it's tantamount to torture… no lube, hard, abrasive, dirty object being shoved up there, mostly likely tear the inner wall and god knows what infections would result. God knows what the liquid was.

  • The phrase that comes to mind is "cut to ribbons". There is a more complete version on youtube, just type in д1. It is divided into 10 minute blocks but does contain the "rape of christ" scene, among other previously cut moments. Happy watching..

  • @carlkamuti THANK YOU!

  • The uncut version is 111 minutes but I heard there was a 117 minute version. The US 103 version is heavily cut.

  • Although I myself wanted to watch the shock scenes, I think it is good that they are removed from this version: that way, people can truly appreciate the plot and music and the beautiful way in which the film was filmed.

  • Excellent!

Beautiful film: so strangely surreal and disturbing!

  • TINKER DILL! from Lovejoy is in this! great actor. didn't know dudly sutton was in this movie.

  • Watching this French-subtitled version (of what is said to be the US version), this re-inforces my belief that there are two US versions (one for the US, the other for international consumption). at 4:04 to 4:09, the mini-scene is gone in the Spanish and Italian versions (probably 'cause no-one would get who the Protestants were/are: the largest religion in the UK).

  • The good news is, you've posted the best-looking readily available print of the film. There's more to Russell's masterpiece than pubes and gore! So we can take in the fab photography, sets and artwork as never before. We just have to fill in the gaps in the more extreme sections. Thanks for posting.

  • Looks like a nice print of the film in terms of colours and framing. Shame it's the castrated US print, missing four minutes of footage removed from the original 1971 UK cut - obviously, the further missing four minutes removed in 1971 and restored by Lucida in 2004 is nowhere to be seen! So this version of the film lacks EIGHT MINUTES of footage. Shame, cos it still looks fantastic.

  • @64MDL Damn! Thx for the information I was not aware about that!

  • @KingRabbit i believe the complete, unedited version of the film is being made available in the UK on the 19th of February thanks to the lovely people at the BFI. 40 years is the very definition of "better late than never" :)

  • @autophobe2e oh, the 19th of march, excuse me.
