Strathairn does a great job also in this movie. His depiction is so fucking disgusting, you just want to bash his skull in with a hammer. Hard to not think of this character whenever you see him in anything else. Bates is amazing as always. My favorite actress of all time is in it too, Jennifer Jason Leigh. Wanna see a female character equally as disgusting? Check out Shelley Winters in "A Patch of Blue", another great flick.

A terrific movie -- right up there with Shawshank. King is a genius, and the acting in this is first-rate, especially Kathy Bates, as always. One of my favorites...

Dolores doesn't kill her husband for revenge. She kills him because it's the only way, in that place and time, to stop him from molesting their daughter or spending her trust fund. She kills him because life can never be good for those two women (mother and daughter) as long as he's still alive. She kills him because the world is a better place without him in it. It's not a revenge thing. it's a survival thing.
