  • why skip add, please fuck off Youtube

  • uploaded on my escape the womb day yea:) love it good song :)

  • Minor work from their later period? Not!

  • @boerbeat

definitely- one of my all-out fall favourites

  • I'm from Prestwich, where the band formed. Basically, if you don't like them then don't worry because you are not welcome.

  • Love the raised eyebrows at the end, a pose I've never seen Mark strike before

  • I like the Wollstonecroft/Burns drum solo.

  • "it's not as easy as it looks.."

  • I do so ever so much love this kind of sound, yeah, you know, the music, and the words, and can you call it singing? Oh, yeah, that, too. It makes me want to wriggle around and also to open my window and do a big squawking noise, and whistle. Take it easy and take it diffy at the soym toym. Know what I mean. Eh!

  • Steve Hanley, didn't he once leave the Fall for 3 months to work in a petrol station? One of greatest bass players ive ever heard.

  • fall rules

  • Hey man, great video! The idea of them playing in the streets dragging their amps is cool, plus its so fun to see The Fall doing a clip.

  • AAFUCKUSA THIS IS WORKERS MUZAK

  • Classic Fall. Accept no substitutes.

  • 9 dislikes? There's 15 ways they can get fucked

  • i was turned on to the fall by cedric of at the drive in/mars volta fame and i can see this bands influence in thier seemingly chaotic music....i just love music, it never ceases to amaze me. iwonder how many other gay dudes listen and are interested in this kind of music...hmmm, lol

  • @keef78 this aint faggot music pal

  • @findlaymcarthur -shut up dumbass it's for everyone, fuck you.

  • @Bakersfieldsucks777 its not for everyone fuck you. def workers muzak

  • @keef78 Same here, when he said: "This song is dedicated to the band from the UK, called The Fall. If you don't know who the Fall is, you're obviously listening to too much hip-hop and heavy metal... this is for Mark E. Smith!"

Then I asked myself, who or what is the Fall? First 3 albums I got my hands on were Hex, Witch Trials and This Nation's... now I'm a freak, lurking in the demented, damp places, always craving for more live gigs and unreleased footage.

  • I love this single. Picked up the yellow 7" a few weeks ago. I can't stand that short stretch in the beginning before the song starts however.

  • @fasolplanetarium so get over it ..

  • @findlaymcarthur No. I don't think I'm going to do that.

  • no woman will ever leave me so i dont have to worry about that crap.

  • @pbrick6301 That's probably because nobody would go with you in the first place. The cocky way you're talking that's what it sounds like is happening. Anyway great song.

  • LOL THEY ARN'T AMERICAN

  • You guys did a great job shooting and editing this. He makes me laugh just watching him. No one seems to agree that in his later years as he gets older he looks a hell of a lot like Johnny Cash. Anyways, thanks for sharing this video Kleiler. Im going to favor it.

  • @lifepod2036 I was only thinking the other night that he's started to look like Johnny Cash especially in the 'Reformation' video. So when I read your comment I had to reply and agree with you.

  • WHY DO YOU HAVE TO LIKE COMPARE IT MAN JUST LIKE ENJOY IT MAN LIKE YOU KNOW MAN YOU KNOW LIKE ITS ALL JUST LIKE WHY DO YOU HAVE TO MAN JUST ENJOY IT LIEK YOU KNOW.

  • pavement & mary chain were spermatozoa when MESmith hit the scene.

The Real New Fall LP in the early 2000s was the best thing he did in ten years (since Extricate). But now once again, he has declined into crapness- merely outputting pap, providing his latest Eastern bride with vocation.

  • @Glassis6000 you not heard OFYC/YFOC then? or Fall Heads Roll? Or Von Sudenfed? or him headline glastonbury with Gorillaz? or any live gigs recently?

  • @cruiserscreek Agreed with those 3 lp's dude. The new one is probably the best thing they have done in 25yrs.

  • @cruiserscreek

I like Fall Heads Roll but his last 3 LPs i think are poor. Von Sudenfeld is okay, but I wouldn't say it was good. And no- I think Gorillaz are utter drivel so I didnt bother watching. I've not seen him live since Extricate.

  • @Glassis6000

I think I saw him at Glastonbury a few years after Extricate- I just remembered. Probably 92 or 93. In any case, not recently.

  • @Glassis6000 yeah, they last played in '92. don't like or listen to gorillaz but to see him on that level in front of however many, headlining glastonbury (with two drummers and two members of the clash backing him) live on the bbc...i am a romantic at heart i guess (aswell as a little soft). some of the ten or so gigs i've seen in 4/5 years (all in mcr) have provided me with a handul of totally transcandental memories forever to look back upon...

  • @cruiserscreek

They did a great gig at the Hacienda in 1990. One of my favourites- you would have liked that one.

  • you cant compare anyone band its all art its like trying to compare cofee and icecream

  • his voice is a iggy pop and lou reed mix

  • no no no this is very clever and i love mark

  • yeah, do your homework. it all started with vu

  • eeer the fall were part of punk new wave and anything else you care to mention in the last 30 years. They have never sold out/ spent hours on a clever act. Pavement were 10 years! I like them but your putting apples next to a very fine old wine. Mark E is a national treasure.

  • pavement?, jesus n mairy chain? sonic youth?....THE FALL IS THE FALL IS....

  • not my cup of tea but gave it a listen anyway

  • stop comparing bands to each other, it's like comparing different shades of colors to each other.

  • Some of you are just complete morons, "wahh NO FALL NO PAVEMENT NO PIXIES NO SHUT THE FUCK UP" these people are talented fucking musicians, they all have different influences and incorporate that into their music. In NO WAY does one band ever make another. Think fucking critically. I love any band that puts out enjoyable music and thats all that realy matters. Pricks

  • lulz, why would anyone even consider comparing 'The Fall' to 'Pavement' . The Fall is awesome.

  • fuckin love ya forever babes !! your the f,,kin best ,xxxxxxxxxx love ya forever

  • i'm tAKING THE MONEY SHOT ON THE CHIN

  • No Fall no Pavement. Simple.

  • @tescocadaver yeah. just like no J&C Chain no Pixies. No pixies no nirvana. no nirvana no...I dunno...seether I guess. Also no Velvet Underground no fall. Part of the fun of falling in love with a band is finding what artists they ripped from. it's all great music yeah?

  • really great video !

  • I think the Happy Mondays sound like The Fall. This is one of my favourite tunes. It's nice to see an artist make consistant good music.

  • Agreed, good call.

  • Why do people keep comparing the Fall to Pavement? I've heard both compared to Sonic Youth; hell, I've heard Pavement compared to early Jesus and Mary Chain (I don't hear that one). They all take cues from the Velvet Underground, update elements of them (deadpan delivery, poetic lyrics, feedback). Why not just love all the bands? I do. :)

  • If it sounds good it sounds good. I f it sounds like a pack of horny dogs participating in dirty dog buggery it sounds like a pack of dirty dogs participating in dirty dog buggery. Thankfully only half of the fall legacy sounds that way

  • bla bl bleargh

    b4 pavement

    ppl didnt do this shit

imagine not being as young as u are

now pavement when asked shake their heads as to why people compare them to the fall and go yeah we arrived at the same malaysian island via the groundhogs and krautrock -now i understand if yr american this does not compute but really its the truth-no fucker thinks lcd sound like the fall-the happy mondays sound like the fall--because the fall were ground zero like the velvets but in adifferent way

  • actually, i'm english. i just stay in cali now. so i see the importance of UK's punk roots and California's melodicism. As for the Happy Mondays, I always thought Shaun Ryder was on Mark's same wavelength, but I think he added his own spin to it, call it nihilism, or escapism.

  • Pavement

When Pavement played Belfast I said to Stephen (while he was on stage tuning his guitar): 'Do you realise The Fall didn't get this big a crowd when they played here a month ago?'

    'Yeah,' he grinned.

'Which is a shame', I said, 'Because they're a better band.'

    'They WERE a better band.'

  • @odyjamess fuck off you prick

  • @odyjamess Icd? Don't you mean Icp? Man, I love that Insane Clown Posse

  • @LomaxMcGee3

i do too, and i feel good :D

  • @LomaxMcGee3

i agree with you except that you forgotten the cramps in your "a la prevers" list. bye thank

  • @LomaxMcGee3 The reason why people compare Pavement with The Fall is that before & during Slanted and Enchanted, Malkmus was copying The Fall's sound very obviously. The comparison between The Fall, Sonic Youth & Pavement is that Moore & Renaldo were big fans of The Fall when they were forming the band & because Malkmus is also a big fan of Sonic Youth's early records and you can also hear instances of thieving their sound. If you are gonna steal, steal from the best. They all took from VU.

  • @LomaxMcGee3 Surely you mean compare Pavement to the Fall (40 odd albums from 79 onwards)?

  • @LomaxMcGee3 The fall are like no other band and certainly not pavement or sonic youth.... although i understand the velvet underground reference

  • @LomaxMcGee3 Because even Mark E. Smith called Pavement a Fall ripoff. That's how all

  • @LomaxMcGee3 That's one of the ways this all got started.

  • whoever said pavement were better than the fall is a moran

  • pavement and the fall sound alike but each have their own distinct flavor and are thus distinctly different. the fall have kind of an english punk vibe while pavement has that whole west coast melodic thing. you know when which one is playing on the radio. they're both good in their own way.

  • Comment removed

  • Pavement were better than The Fall. Although this is a great Fall track.

  • hahahaha!

  • Mark? Is that you?

  • the fall are the fall, just enjoy music period

  • WHEN A BAND SAY THEY SOUND A BIT LIKE THE FALL...........no they dont

  • Comment removed

  • sometimes he looks so..sweet lol!

  • I don´t remember where I read once many years ago that Pavement consider themselves a resurrected The Fall. In their freaking dreams!!. The Fall was a huge infuence for the alternative bands in late 80´s, listening to them you would know where music was heading to. They were the Velvet Underground of their time.

  • stephen malkmus said on a documentary a while back "a fall rip of??? no one would ever get rich by ripping off the fall"

new face in hell...best track of slanted and enchanted ;-) love both bands but the fall are mighty!

  • @paulboggan: "new face in hell...best track of slanted and enchanted ;-)"

    LMFAO

It's funny because it's true. Love The Fall, love Pavement. Rip-off? Homage? Who cares. THEY'RE BOTH AMAZING. It's hilarious when fans start flamewars over them, lol...

  • @chetumalkid I'm pretty sure Pavement said they liked Echo and the Bunnymen more. They did take a lot of influence from The Fall in their early work, but they were very much their own band as early as Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (though for the record Loretta's Scars, one of their most bald-faced The Fall rip-offs, is my favorite song of theirs).

  • i am whistler !

  • frankiepanky are you serious ??? hahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • Mark Smith corrects Paul Simon. 50 ways? No, 15 ways!

  • haha no way, only those 20 seconds mean more than "take me out", just because introduces you to a wonderfull- no so strange song, it needs a caotic part

  • do your homework

  • The first twenty seconds of faint intro was "borrowed" by Franz Ferdinand for "Take Me Out", the groove, tempo and chords are identical or near as ....

  • nah F**k that! middle class revolt as an album is bloody great!

  • I saw The fall live around this time ! thanks.

  • Quality tune. Good video too. Mark E Smith seems like such a twat in reality but really intellegent as an artist.

  • "50 Ways" would just be too optimistic for someone from Manchester to believe possible. Just learning about The Fall. I could have learned so much if I'd found them in the Midwest 25 years ago.

  • Hey, this period is oft-overlooked. I love this song! Too bad they got screwed by Matador.

  • fucking ay! nice!

  • steven Craig Feldman, Attorney at Law in California, owner of Feldman Law Center, Scammer, Cheat and Dead Beat Dad!

  • Ye olde Falle groupe.

  • what can i say? nowt fukin ace

  • one of the best british bands ever in my opinion. probably in the top 10

  • Top 4

  • So cool...

  • It is hard to say "Man" the way Mark E. Smith says it, if you want to sing this song you have to find your own new way to say "Man".

  • Yep, theres apparently fiftenn ways to leave yeurr meeyan-n-n-n

    A fucking legend

  • middle class revolt one of the best works of smith

  • Looking at this video, what strikes me is how much Mark E looks like the skinny guy from road trip. Biopic anyone?

  • Lookig

  • Any body know the song from Silence of the Lambs by The Fall that has been removed and replaced for TV? Great song why did it cut it out?

  • I'm pretty sure it's 'Hip Priest', I don't know why it was cut though.

  • why randomly have a go at america? the doors were american and so was bill hicks that enough for a ones countries accomplishments

  • I bloody love Mark E.

  • great song

  • No... America is awesome and so is the Fall.

  • you are a clown!...come join the circus..i recommend the rodeo

  • @shawnnews the fall is from GB not from USA..

  • Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, Stanley Kubrick, Edgar alen Poe, Soul music, Taxi Driver and milkshakes ?

  • fuck you.

  • why fuck me ?

  • sorry, i dunno, it seemed like the right response at the time? i'm an idiot.

  • your right there my friend.

  • lol

  • lmfao @ influenced by The Smiths bwahahahahahaha

  • Whats the song at the start?

  • ill just say a word that some of you seem to ignore...Post-punk. Go read about it on wikipedia

  • Go masturbate to your pretentiousness somewhere else. mmk?

  • well i guess ill have to run to the bathroom to take out theshit in my ears...i think it splash me from your mouth

  • Even funnier!!!!!!!!!!!

  • it does sound like the smiths.your deaf/shit in your ears.

  • Calm down! It doesn't sound that much like the Smiths. Sounds more like the Teardrop Explodes. Still 'shit in your ears' is such an eloquent expression. You're a real poet, aren't you?!

  • middle class revolt - yay!

  • This is off middle class revolt and is one of my fav. Fall albums of all time.I remember listening to this in Uni. It took all the pop stylings from the Brix era, but also took into acct. the sound of early 90's UK. Brilliant LP. If you can, give it another spin. The production is on the polished side, but there's a denseness to it.

  • Firt time i listened to the fall...it sound the smiths-like to me...hope nobody took this as a insult, i love the smiths!

  • it is not a insult, but simply they DOESN'T sound like the Smiths.

  • Well, yeah, as i said, i´m not an expert, nor have listened to all of the fall albums...But it seem (to me) that this non-melodic song, with a very simple but catchy guitar,a great lyric and a non very common lead singer voice it´s something that remind me of the smiths. Maybe i´ll change my mind later. Anyway, it´s a great song

  • No, he's right. Try to listen past Mark E.'s vocal track. That could easily have been an early Smith's backing track that Morrissey would have sung a different melody over.

  • Sorry, I totally disagree.

  • well, maybe you disagree because you are a fan of the fall...once again, if you search in the wikipedia for the fall, the article says that they influenced the smiths! so, maybe you´re happy now, because it´s morrisey who took some thinks of the fall sound

  • First Fall album: 1979.

    First Smiths album: 1984.

    End of the games.

  • All good fun for both bands no?

  • me too. Smiths - is one of those 80s pop groups like u2, echo & the bunnymen, etc..

the Fall (Mark E. Smith) is much more deeper and worthwhile..

    (sorry for my english)

  • Echo & The Bunnymen were a fucking great band.

  • they are not from Manchester =)

  • If you're not a Manc, you're a wank.

  • Hey, i love this song, it`s not a minor work!! and the video is super cool, nice work!

  • That is one of the funniest things I have read for a long time. Thanks.

  • who the fuck are m people and bon jovi is wank-rock.

    Go stick your pretentiousness somewhere.

  • good song. great video!

  • Nice work pal. Never heard the song before. I've seen and heard a fuck of a lot worse.

  • I think this video is fantastic mate. Well done. Not my fave fall song but nice seeing a few local places (Heaton park, Castlefield)

  • i'm really starting to reasses 90s fall stuff. i wasnt that keen, thought it was ok, but the more i listen to it the more i like it.

  • sombre period,he,s jump started in the last two years, keep rockin M9.

  • ablsolute greatness

  • great job mate. don't be humble about it.

wild and refreshing and a good view of the city.

  • The Fall at their 90's best!!

  • Outstanding!!I was a bit worried to find out on the net that Karl Burns seems to have vanished off the face of the earth.Anyone know if hes turned up yet??(an old pal of mine back in the days as was Funky Simon)

  • he lives on a farm in the hills somewhere

  • Karl is a friend of mine too, and believe it or not i whistled on this track... break now... karl lives on a farm in rawtenstall !

  • Brilliant! Never seen this until now...

MES looking like he might be having fun. Who's the keyboardist, though?

  • dave Bush... Went on to work with elastica

  • I sure miss the original crew

  • Why is everything worth listening to and talking about on an obsessive level from Manchester? We owe the North everything they owes us nothing! The Smiths/Mozzer,Joy Division/New Order,Stone Roses,Buzzcocks,The Happy Mondays,Vinnie Reilly,The Fall...what else is there?

  • not seen this before, great fall video, good balance stylistically, not too avant-garde as a video but not at all un-fall.

  • Great post-punk band.

  • The Fall is awesome. They are eternal.

  • so is the fall of man

  • someone missing brixs?

  • Yeah, there's no one to spontaneously break into laughter for no apparent reason. See Wings and Kicker Conspiracy to get what I mean
