  • you make good vid

  • Very cool!!..These bikes can hold thier own for sure. Probably faster then most cars on the road..and definately holding up decently to the race cars/bikes. I've got an '02 1800 that's just fast enough for me, although I wouldn't take it out to the track, its way cool to see how they just might hold up..nice to hear you wiped the smiles off the racers' faces.. Good job.

  • Like the old ad campaign said... Follow the leader, he's on a Honda

  • Nice!!!

  • HA Ha good job! I wanna get my 78 gl1000 naked out to a strip just for curiousity sake.

  • Cool vid, I liked seeing your times get lower as you ran, except that freak 3rd run.

  • @mrpotatoheadracing I blew a shift on that 3rd run. It was a lot of fun and if it wasn't so hot, I would have made a few more runs down the track. I have made a few 140mph runs on the open road too. The bike can really move for its size and comfort.

  • Us Ultra Classic riders have always known....to NEVER race a Goldwing =)

  • Ooooop's just watched it to the end & seen the times - nice job . . . on what is the most 'un-dragster' like bike you can possibly buy

  • "kept up just fine with the rest" - but no mention of those times ot terminal speeds !

  • I am impressed, not a Wing fan but you could run with my brothers 08 CVO Road King, he is running the same numbers as you. I can spank his bad but I have $7k in my 08 Streetglides motor. I have to get to a strip to get some numbers.

  • never expect this result on this bike.. kudos.

  • Great montage dude! It'd be a whole lotta fun to go run mine out there some time...

  • the flashing back and forth is STUPID dude...time to turn this crap off.

  • you could do that to that bike everyday and it wouldnt hurt it at all, honda's are tough.shoulda filled the bags with sodas and snacks to pass out at the end of the runs...lol...go gl!

  • My dream bike upon retirement soon. Hopefully a Goldwing 2011 even if it's made in Japan.

  • to hard on your bike

  • @vivitar45 Not really very hard on the bike. I am not over revving at the start or dumping the clutch. It isn't like I do it all the time. It was a total of 8 rapid starts. Nothing more than I might do on the open road for fun.

  • @schworak screw them... i for one am actually impressed that this heavy ass bike can actually make those numbers. still faster than most cars and... small sport bikes..

  • @mitchellberry The guys I ran against were chuckling when I rolled in. Then after the first run not so much and after the second run not at all. Even they were impressed. I was the only street legal bike there and it was just to see how it could do. Would have done better with a few more runs. I was getting the shifting dialed in but it was too hot that day for me.

  • @vivitar45 I can't think of why you'd have any logical reason to assume that.

  • Hey man what kind of ET's are you pulling with that bad boy? I tried to race my 34 foot motorhome at the local 1/8th mile but the kitchen didn't pass tech inspection.

  • @duanedragon2 Times are at the end of the video and on my web site too.

  • it looks like your bike did quite well to me. also, you didn't have to worry about the engine detonating, and you could turn the radio up while charging down the drag strip if you wanted to : )

  • @jojoblue1 My thoughts exactly. I just wanted to see what it could do. Not bad for a stock street bike and a first time drag strip visit.

  • lol their not even trying

  • take all the shit off it? that's like 200 pounds right there....

  • Well, that would defeat the point of the entire event. There were other bikes there that were stripped down and charged up. Mine was the only 100% factory and street legal bike. I rode there, raced the bike and rode home all on the same motorcycle. Yeah, I got beat by the other bikes but mine was stock and a lot more comfortable too. I bet I would have beat them all had we run a full mile track instead of the 1/4 mile because they all toped out near the finish line. I was just getting started.

  • Only bike I've ever been on, riding 2 up and loaded for touring, that is comfortable at 100 plus for an hour straight But, radio is useless at that speed.

  • Hey tool, why don't you just post he real time and do us all a favor so we dont have to fit throuh that insufferble video

  • It is hard to believe that it has been 2 years since I ran the bike at the drag strip. No plans on going back. Straight line runs for a few seconds just don't excite me all that much. It was fun for sure but I like to keep doing different things.

  • after all the racing, how is your bike doing? i like it. wish i had one. strip it down and it would fly.

  • The bike is doing great! No problems with it at all. I had it up to 140 a couple times on the highway. Ran it at 120 for over 15 minutes solid through the desert once too. Very stable. Hard to imagine, but even 120 gets boring on a straight road.

  • cool video but no shots at the board , do we have to guess how fast you were going, it happens alot on these youtube video at the drag strip I'm always left wondering how fast they went,

  • Did you watch it all the way to the end? The times are there. One got miss typed by my friend that did the video. You'll know when you see it which one. He took the time from the rider in the other lane by mistake. My times are also listed on the associated web page.

  • my friend had a cb 750 and raced the goldwing 1000 and got blown! you can't underestimate the goldwing. what if you took of the luggages. bet that would be a different story. it would beat more bikes. i think you did just fine.

  • The older wings could survive having the luggage removed. The newer wings have electronics in the faring that would need to be relocated. I don't think you would get much of an improvement by simply removing the rear luggage but it would look interesting. All that power in a comfy-cruiser sure is nice.

  • is the 12.094 second ET in run 3 a typo? I cant see how you could shave a whole second off your ET when the others were so consistent in the low 13s

  • Not a type-o really... A friend did the video and made a boo-boo on that one. The racing slip has two times, one for each racer. He wrote the other guy's time in on that one. OOPS! But I don't know how to do video so I couldn't fix it and didn't catch it anyway for about a week. Good eyes though. My time is correct on my web site though.

  • we can all use a good spanking once in awhile.

  • I have a new respect for the Winger.

  • respectable times from a tourer bike. wonder how it would do without the traveling gear? i'd prefer riding the gw for the long haul any day. plus you can cruise over 100 mph all day. it's a great bike

  • cool.

  • I got the same bike in Black!... This bike rocks! Thanks for the video, I got it up on my Facebook page. Not too shabby for a Luxury bike.

  • Awesome video......looked like a lotta fun for a day, but I agree, I love my 1800, especially on the twisties. It's sweet to have a bike to ride down to the twisties (Deals Gap), and still be comfortable enough to enjoy them when you get there. I would really like to try out my wing at the strip, what did you have to remove in order to run it....(antennaes, etc?)

  • Very cool. The Wing is bad mother, in addition to being a two wheeled Cadillac! Currently I'm riding an 07 Bandit 1250 and she's nice....but damn...I gotta get a WIng!! Thanks for the post bro.

  • You are very welcome! I enjoyed it but probably won't ever do the drag strip again. It just isn't all that exciting. The track is too short and has no turns. I'll stick to the mountains and scraping my pegs. Pulled a wheelie and almost scraped my tail pipes once too.

  • Been Pushin Ninja's For Yrs.. I Am Done..0-60 In 4 Secs Is Plenty Fast Enough For Me.. I Am Going For The Full Boat Wing With The Airbag.. My Life Is Worth The Extra 3 Grand Should Some Idiot Left Turn In Front Of Me..

  • I have had this 1800 and my previous 1500 up to 140 mph on the open highway on long stips of road for short periods of time. It is amazingly stable. The 1500 took forever to get up to that speed. The 1800 did it without any effort at all and had room to keep going faster. I chickened out at 140. My personal record is 22 miles in 12 minutes in Nevada.

  • How did you get it up to 140? did you disable the restrictor? I had mine up to 115 at 5k rpm. What does it tack out at 140?

  • I don't remember my RPM at 140 but I do know it was under 6k because I had lots of room to keep moving. Overdrive doesn't have much power at the low end but once you get over 5k it has a power band of its own and it can push the air out of the way easily. I think I would have topped out around 150 maybe a little faster before hitting red line. I don't think the air would have been an issue like it was on my 1500.

  • Im hesitant about what to think about an airbag. Im not sure how effective it would be on a bike. I would like to see some tests of it!

  • I have an airbag model, you are restricted to what goodies you can add onto the front end, please bear that in mind

  • The main thing I dislike about the air bag is the repositioning of the dash controlls. I think ALL wings should have a membrain stereo interface instead of regular buttons. Or at least better buttons. Crap gets in the cracks and make them stick some times. Drives me nuts trying to keep them clean.

  • after owning numerous sportbikes, cbr 600, gsxr 750-1000 and a new 08 gsxr 1000 im finally thinkin of a goldwing so my girl can com with in comfort..really she hates riding on the back of sport bikes @110 mph, yes, goldwing will go 110..saw it for myself...

  • Pulled a wheelie once too. Not just a little one a couple inches off the ground but nearly scraped my pipes! I have done 140 and had some room to go a little faster. Just takes a lot of road and lack of common sense.

  • cheers mate, you have proved big tourers aren/t for old men with a pipe and slippers, my mates nearly all run sports bikes, me, a BMW K1200LT and proud of it.

  • So I take it you are in Australia? I can hear the accent in your writing and love it! I have druled over the thought of riding accross the outback on a bike. If I ever manage to get the money together and get over there, I plan on taking one of those motorcycle tours.

  • no i'm not an aussie, ENGLISH AND PROUD OF IT. my bmw is an 03 model with76000 miles on the clock and never been out of the british isles. scotland is a superb place to tour, through the mountains i can keep up with most fof the lads on their sportsbikes and at the end of the day i'm not huntched up like an old man(R6 owners)

  • good for you i ride a honda st1300 go honda

  • Honda Pride! man this made my day. to all the doubters of the wing this video outta shut you all up.

  • my dads 2005 goldwing did 13.9@99 could have done better

  • This is awesome, imagine the looks on the other bikers faces when they see a freakin goldwing in the other lane. Thats awesome. At 2:34 you get a great start, and give the other guy a good run. Props for taking that thing out to the track! :)

  • Yeah, they actually gave me a bit of ribbing before my first run. Then, not so much. By the forth run, they were all quite impressed that the wing could keep up. They all expected to beat me by a long shot but were surprised to see that I could keep up. I bet if the track was longer I could have done better as I was just hitting the power band at the finish line.

  • well not just any 1000cc bike, but a 1000cc sportsbike - yes. for example - a couple months ago i took my '06 GSX-R1000 out to the 1/4 mile for the first time. i only got two runs in that night. first was something like 11.3 seconds, 2nd run was about 10.8sec. my bike is completely stock also. i think that says alot for modern sportsbikes when a regular guy can go out and run 10 seconds on the his only second run ever! that's fast!

  • massive props for taking the Goldwing out to the strip!!

would have kept up with the cars fairly well, but any 1000cc sportsbike straight off the showroom floor is a 10 second bike. but good effort! a bit more time out there and i bet you could work on lowering the reaction time and getting better launches?

  • Well, not any 1000cc bike is a 10 second bike. Yep, the racing bikes are faster but weigh a lot less and have been set up for speed. But in 8 runs I did get a bit better each time so a few more and I would have kept improving. It was just so darn hot out there! And after the first few, the excitement wore off. I mean really... 100mph is nothing for only a 1/4 mile. I have run 140 for 6 miles once on the open road. And in Nevada ran 120 for over 20 miles and that included some long corners.

  • Right on Bro!! Who the f*ck died and put these turds in charge of who rides what and what bike is allowed to do what? Motorcycles are about FREEDOM !!!! F*ck 'em if they can't take a joke!!! I'll do what I want with my "84 GL1200 and I won't pass any judgement on what you do with your bike...THAT'S WHAT RIDING IS ALL ABOUT!!!

  • I was hoping to see a complete run with the bike but gave up after a minute or so..Annoying to watch, for me at least.

  • is this the same band from the titty twister in the film dusk till dawn,

brave on the strip wont take my on.....

  • this bike is a load of shit

  • Gotta wonder why people write stuff likd this. It doesn't bother me that the GoldWing isn't for you but to be so ignorant as to call it "a load of shit" only shows your lack of intelegance and narrow minded ness. Grow up and learn wat bikes are really all about.

  • Gotta wonder why people write stuff *liked* this. It doesn't bother me that the GoldWing isn't for you but to be so ignorant as to call it "a load of shit" only shows your lack of *INTELLIGENCE* and narrow *mindedness*. Grow up and learn *what* bikes are really all about.

  • congratulations, you win a gold star for english.

  • Nice tito and tarantula! I love that band.

I want a goldwing so bad.

  • nice! looked like a good time, also the all black wing is rare, and very cool looking!

What did you run, and how did you launch. I would think that a full throttle clutch drop would launch the best with all that weight it shoulndt get too squirly?

  • good shit...

  • Your editing skilz damn near gave me a seizure.

  • Yeah, no shit! What the hell was up with that? I couldn't watch the whole clip.

  • i vomited a whole shit load of blood

  • Is this a half mile drag strip???? A drag bike should be gettin 7's on 1/4 mile.

  • You did better than my stock 1969 Firebird 400 with stock tires that I ran in 1977.

  • I just bought a well cared for GL1200 with a trailer...I wonder what that would do..HA!

  • Unhook that trailer and go race it to find out! After the first few runs, I actually found it really boring. I mean really, no cross traffic, pot holes, gravel or corners and only 13 seconds before putting on the breaks. I did run at 140MPH on the open highway for about 6 miles and 120MPH for about 20 miles on two different trips. That is exciting!

  • No pleasing some people is there? A comment like that from vadim5891 is rude for one thing and uneducated for another. Oh well, no skin off my nose.

  • dito

  • Yes, the 12 second time was a typing error and I just never took the time to re-edit the video. I figured people would catch that one. It is actually the pro-drag bike I am against that had that time.

A friend of mine actually edited the video for me and took the times off the drag time slips. I think on that one he read out of the wrong column which shows my time in one column and the drag bike in the other. I got spanked on that run.

  • Hahaha nice, the long wheelbase has to help it heaps off the line, a lot less prone to wheelies!

Just curious, is run #3 a typo (12 flat) or did you just get an exceptionally good launch? That's a second quicker than the rest but with a similar terminal speed. Either way a flat 13 is pretty good for a bike that heavy and one that's marketed as a cruiser - glad to see you out there enjoying it :)

  • Wow, great job! Gotta love the Wing! Great on the strip, great in the twisties, and great on the superslab! And great around the campfire too, for the stereo...LOL

  • It is amazing that a stock street bike was able to hold its own. And with a little practice I probably could have done a bit better but this was my first and only time to go to the drag strip. Now I want some video of me scraping my knee while taking the corners along side the racing style bikes :-)

  • Way to hang with those drag bikes man! The Wing is an awesome machine!

  • good on ya mate the buell didnt have that much on you ,good to see and there is nothing wrong with that 12 of yours

  • Very good. See video "Moto sem piloto" in Youtube. I have 69 years old...

I don t speak english, sorry.

    I have a Goldwing 1800, year 2006. Used cruisie control. Speed: 80 km/h=Lens fish eye 185º

    Tks,

    Edson

  • I have had my 1800 GoldWing up to 140 on the open road for about a 6 mile stretch. The bike could go faster but I was getting nervous and was running out of straight road fast. Maybe some day on a really straight strip of road I will find the maximum speed. It does take a while to get to that speed but the bike has no trouble doing it. It isn't struggling or anything.

  • ooooo that bike sounds like a 250 looks like an rv but me and my dad have had fun times on it like 100mph turns no handed racing a corvette (not z06) and was sooo close to keeping up with it and cruisin 120

  • that very nice triel from u to drive gold wing on rag

god help u to get best time and speed

  • That was great, thanks! Now I have an idea how my GL1800 will perform... *out, evil thoughts, out!*

  • Glad you enjoyed it. If it would have been cooler, I would have made a few more runs and probably gotten my shifting down. I predict that the best I could have gotten would have been around 105 mph because the wing just starts to take off right at the end of the track. Now on a 1/2 mile track it would really cick butt!

  • I liked it. Nice launch on the 3rd time. Thanks for sharing. I think I'll watch it again.

    Safe riding.
