@kibicz Semi auto is all I need. I am looking for a .223 rifle and my best options are a 1500 euro rifle that isn't as user-friendly as an AR15 or importing a Saiga.
If I lived in a country where 7.62x39 was cheap and easy to obtain I would definitely go with a vz.58.
I finally got mine, the Century 2008 model. Looks perfect, shoots GREAT. Only put 120 through it the first shoot, no problems, aims well too. Sights were on. Super easy to take apart. These videos are what introduced me to the rifle, and led to me buying one. Thanks Hickok!
@Volkov556 its all in the name, the dumbass liberals hear "ak-47" on the news, in the movies, in video games, oh those things sure do osund evil, but who outside the gun world has ever heard of a vz-58? but keep your guard up, if the liberals have their way we wont have anything, always vote conservative or just take your guns in for destruction now. the long gun registry is almost gone, when its gone go buy a cz-858 if you dont already have a vz-58 =)
@Volkov556 Yeah, but they will let you have diesel and fertilizer which can be combined to make something really potent. That is why gun control is stupid. Some guns are banned, but you can make a massive IED by combining perfectly legal components.
@SoccerDJRob They're called mags. Clips is what you use to reload from the top. I have never heard any reliability issues with this, however, more people owns AK's here.
I will be buying one of these this week. Can't wait. The one I'm ordering has the folding stock, I'm wondering if it can be removed and a regular butt stock added. Also wondering about silencer options for this, and how they work.
I Am Kind Of Looking into Possibly Getting one, I've heard that they are more Accurate Than An AK ---- can Somebody Help me on This ??? ---thanks, great vid by The way !!!
Yeah, AKs and their variants are banned up here in Canuckistan (and most AK lookalikes too, including .22LR blowback designs, - the only reason we can have this one is because it wasn't here when the gun laws and prohibitions were drafted in the early 90s). These are not variants, so us pleebs are allowed by our "benevolent" (sarcasm) government to own them. Of course, the mags have to be neutered to 5 rounds. I own a VZ-58, and LOVE shooting it! :D
Nice, ...but I do not understand why this version (from CzechPoint, Inc. or CZ-USA, produced by D-Technik, a.s. Czech rep.) have no bayonet lug on down side of barrel as original Sa vz.58 ?
@nmdowty yeah same bullet but 5.56mm nato rounds are loaded hotter (more powder) therefore you may not want to shoot a 5.56 in your gun that is chambered for .223 a weaker load
Canada- The reason they are so popular up here is because 1) they are an extremely good deal- CZ-made rifles, with 4 mags and a bayonet for ~$700. 2) for a very long time they were the only non-restricted "tactical" rifle (AR-15s are subject to a lot of regulation) available for a price reasonable to the recreational shooter. The Czechs are fantastic gun makers and engineers. I have a natural talent for Gunsmithing and Mechanics and my Grandmother was Czech, maybe it's in my genes. Hehe.
Me and many other Americans give thanks to the Czech Republic for providing us with such well made firearms.
The best part of Vz58 is the plenty available aftermarket stocks, rail systems, etc. For a few bucks, you can pimp this ride big time. It is super-accurate, compared to any AK47, and lot of fun to shoot. real cold war relic :)
just a question, dosnt the open bolt system attract much dirt and stuff if your out in the field. or does the Vz58 have some cover for that? great video as always :)
@1Gabrielsson1 The bolt holds open only on the last shot to indicate it is empty. When you are shooting the bolt opens only for a split second to throw out the empty cartridge. You can barely see it move so fast. The ak47 and 74 selector must remain open when firing and no one complains about dirt getting in, it could but not too likely. The manual bolt hold open allows you to inspect the rifle inside without taking it apart. You can't do this on an ak.
@cruchi28 The VZ 58 has a very large gap which sand and mud could possibly enter when the bolt is held back. It's much worst to get sand and mud in the chamber and magazine area then any other area I think.
@45calibermedic If by unreliable you mean when being subject to mud and sand, yes. It was noted very early on in trials that the M1 Garand had trouble operating in sand and mud despite contrary belief. I have a copy of the trials the Garand went through.
Yeah, we can only have 5 rounds in semi-autos in Canada :(
I want to get one of these in the near future. I used to like the look of the AK more, but this is starting to grow on me, it's much more retro looking. If I do get one I'm changing the furniture though.
Very high quality and popular piece. Simplicity is beauty. Here in the Czech Republic but we have a civilian semiauto version. Cilní versions have the designation CZ858 or Hermex. Original vz.58 fullauto can not get at us. Sorry for English. I use the translator
@Anonymous1226 the problem is not the steel but the lacquer coating the steel to protect it from rusting. The heat from firing will melt the lacquer off and stick to the bore. It can build up to a point where the bullet will stick and cause failures to feed, failures to extract, etc.. Cleaning helps to eliminate this, or use brass ammo instead. Soviet surplus ammo is dirtier and makes your barrel look like the inside of your muffler. It fires great but you have to clean it more.

To anyone looking to get one of these ambi mag release from NEIT arms allows you to drop mag free with just your trigger finger and fiber optic front sight post is a must for those blind folks like me and hickock who still for some reason dont use any optics on our rifles.
As annoying as it is that I, as a Canadian, can't buy many of the interesting firearms Americans can, I still love my country and the shooting sports are alive and kicking up here. There's still tonnes of firearms (including this) to entertain just about everyone. Thanks for the great channel Hickok45 and keep shootin'! As you always say..."Life's good!"
Wow, I'm super lucky. I have a astigmatism (is that the right word?) in my LEFT eye, so I LOVE those sights. My grandpa has a Henry .22 rifle (he recently bought it) and I just am great with those.
This thing looks more like someone wanted to improve on the SKS. You take an sks, put the ak47's stock, pistol grip, and mag, you get this........ I like it :D
A word about the gigantic ejection port, it's designed so you can top up the inserted magazine from stripper clips like a WW2 rifle (Enfield or Garand that I know). I own one with a folding stock and FAB front rails to use a red dot, I fire wolf ammo and can easy hold 2Moa groups. Couldn't be happier with it!
In Canada it is the cz 858 tactical 2, Great rifle easy to clean and fun to shoot. 20 cents a round if bought in bulk. Lighter kick than an sks which shoots the same round. Also very customizable though the plastic fab defense upper handguard rail doesnt hold zero very well after a few shots are fired. The NEA aluminum low profile upper handguard looks good but probably will get loose after a bit of usage. The ak 47 style detachable slide system looks to be the best for repeatable zero.
Looks like a great rifle, but just a thought, isn't the open ejection port/charging handle configuration somewhat dangerous, imagine getting a finger caught in there. Reminds me of getting garand thumb. ouch.
@KingKoodles It's just a joke. A lot of people do it saying '*number of dislikes* people *something about video'. It's just fun to do. And I have nothing against anything, I LOVE Canada and think the vz. 58 is way better than the AK-47.
@FrozenKoolAidDude I understand the archetype of your comment, but yours doesn't really make sense. Why would I dislike a video about a rifle that I can easily obtain and legally own??? It would make sense, however, if this video were about an AK-type weapon; yes/no?
@KingKoodles Sorry if I upset you or something, I was just making a joke and didn't mean to offend anybody. And no, a Vz. 58 is in no way a derivative of an AK-47 other than its looks. It was a stupid joke and I realize I shouldn't have posted it as it had no other point than view whoring.
@FrozenKoolAidDude Hah, good one. Your government may not be the best, but they have the common sense not to let you have one, let alone 3. Save the name calling for the play grounds. Men address each other as men.
@eas26 Dude, you loose either way. I do own firearms, and you're calling me a troll for no reason, witch makes you a lifeless looser. And even if I was 12, you're arguing and picking on a 12 year old. Face it dude, you're a worthless PoS troll.
@FrozenKoolAidDude I don't think PAL carrying adults spell the words loser and which wrong. Not to mention the fact that I hadn't called you a troll....
@heilbeezlebub Why am I getting yelled at for a comment that not only did I say I was sorry about, but everyone is yelling at me for it over and over again? I love Canada, and I meant no disrespect, but for the love of God, why do you people keep doing this to me?
Love your videos hickok. I have stayed up way later than I should have in the past by trying to watch them all. The information you provide is invaluable. Keep up the good shooting.

To me, Black Furniture looks gay on the AK-47

Wow, I'm super lucky. I have a astigmatism (is that the right word?) in my LEFT eye, so I LOVE those sights. My grandpa has a Henry .22 rifle (he recently bought it) and I just am great with those.
LavaTalon73 2 months ago
This thing looks more like someone wanted to improve on the SKS. You take an sks, put the ak47's stock, pistol grip, and mag, you get this........ I like it :D
jldwolfe 2 months ago
A word about the gigantic ejection port, it's designed so you can top up the inserted magazine from stripper clips like a WW2 rifle (Enfield or Garand that I know). I own one with a folding stock and FAB front rails to use a red dot, I fire wolf ammo and can easy hold 2Moa groups. Couldn't be happier with it!
partya11night20 2 months ago
In Canada it is the cz 858 tactical 2, Great rifle easy to clean and fun to shoot. 20 cents a round if bought in bulk. Lighter kick than an sks which shoots the same round. Also very customizable though the plastic fab defense upper handguard rail doesnt hold zero very well after a few shots are fired. The NEA aluminum low profile upper handguard looks good but probably will get loose after a bit of usage. The ak 47 style detachable slide system looks to be the best for repeatable zero.

VZ. actually means something like Mk. - mark 58
SpiritMGSS 2 months ago
@SpiritMGSS It stands for "Vzor", or "Model".

the first time i handled the vz i wanted one immediately. but the second i checked the price tag it was set right back down ha.
BigJT2010 3 months ago
Looks like a great rifle, but just a thought, isn't the open ejection port/charging handle configuration somewhat dangerous, imagine getting a finger caught in there. Reminds me of getting garand thumb. ouch.

aren't Chinese Type 56 is an AK-47 variant as well?

@FrozenKoolAidDude
But we can have THIS rifle, so I'm not exactly sure what you are implying.
KingKoodles 3 months ago
@KingKoodles It's just a joke. A lot of people do it saying '*number of dislikes* people *something about video'. It's just fun to do. And I have nothing against anything, I LOVE Canada and think the vz. 58 is way better than the AK-47.
FrozenKoolAidDude 3 months ago
@FrozenKoolAidDude I understand the archetype of your comment, but yours doesn't really make sense. Why would I dislike a video about a rifle that I can easily obtain and legally own??? It would make sense, however, if this video were about an AK-type weapon; yes/no?
KingKoodles 2 months ago
@KingKoodles Sorry if I upset you or something, I was just making a joke and didn't mean to offend anybody. And no, a Vz. 58 is in no way a derivative of an AK-47 other than its looks. It was a stupid joke and I realize I shouldn't have posted it as it had no other point than view whoring.

@FrozenKoolAidDude 1 person is a 13 year old who cant own a firearm at all, can you guess who that is?
eas26 3 months ago
@eas26 Shut up, looser. I own 3.
FrozenKoolAidDude 3 months ago
@FrozenKoolAidDude Hah, good one. Your government may not be the best, but they have the common sense not to let you have one, let alone 3. Save the name calling for the play grounds. Men address each other as men.
eas26 2 months ago
@eas26 I'm not sure I understand, which government with "common sense" prohibits it's responsible citizens to own a firearm based merely on name?
dreaded002 2 months ago
@dreaded002 You hadn't read the past comments. It was age, not name.
eas26 2 months ago
@eas26 Dude, you loose either way. I do own firearms, and you're calling me a troll for no reason, witch makes you a lifeless looser. And even if I was 12, you're arguing and picking on a 12 year old. Face it dude, you're a worthless PoS troll.
FrozenKoolAidDude 2 months ago
@FrozenKoolAidDude I don't think PAL carrying adults spell the words loser and which wrong. Not to mention the fact that I hadn't called you a troll....
eas26 2 months ago
@FrozenKoolAidDude But you are right on one front, I shouldn't be arguing with a 12 year old. Waste of time. Goodbye.
eas26 2 months ago
@eas26 Dude, I accidently spelled those wrong because I'm typing 90 wpm, and have better things to do than argue with a moron.

Why are my fellow Canadians throwing a hissy fit over this little comment? It's supposed to be a JOKE.
By getting angry about this, you'll make us look like a bunch of hypersensitive wimps.
Jesus Christ, get a sense of humor and learn to laugh a bit. It must be miserable to be so uptight.

@heilbeezlebub Why am I getting yelled at for a comment that not only did I say I was sorry about, but everyone is yelling at me for it over and over again? I love Canada, and I meant no disrespect, but for the love of God, why do you people keep doing this to me?
