@71calg At this tiny Bar in Hermosa Beach, CA in 1998. Also have seen them open up for get this - Ratt, Dokken, and Dio headlining! Long Beach Areana in CA - They only had an EP then. Glad you dig these guys, they arARE LA 80's Blues Metal!!
Seen Great White in a bar room in Manchester,N.H. I bet there wasn't 20 people there. What a performance. The next night would be the "Station" Fire In Rhode Island. I put Jack Russel with Robert Plant and David Coverdale. AWSOME vocalist.
Yes they are THE BEST EVER!!! JACK RUSSELL & THE REST OF THE GUYS ARE SO DOWN TO EARTH!! I'M GLAD GOD BLESSED ME AND LET ME MEET THEM ON A MORE PERSON LEVEL.
Does anyone know the story behind this song? This song was written and sung as if from the experience of an unusually difficult breakup. It makes me wonder if the girl that inspired a song this intense has any remorse.
Is it just me or does the very beginning of the song - the first few notes - sound a lot like a famous classical piece that I have at this moment unfortunately forgot the name of?
Thanks for posting this. Great White were quite possibly the most versatile of the '80s L.A. rockers. They could run the gamut of styles, and, sound completely natural doing so. A very underrated band who didn't get the respect that they deserved.
@southroncross You obviously know your music, and i couldn`t agree with you more. I saw these guys in Nottingham about 6 years ago, they blew me away... I think they are a better band with Michael Lardie in there, he just gives them that "Depth"
@devilsdeck Thanks for the compliment. You hit the nail upon the head. 'Depth' is a very good word to describe Michael Lardie's effect upon their sound. If I am not mistaken, he also co-produced this record for them. One other thing I always liked about these guys were the cover tunes you'd find as B-sides on their singles. Like their own original material, they were varied, and, great listening.
@axltyler Maybe they were not outrageous enough, or, didn't have the requisite rock star good looks, or, their music was not commercial enough. I don't know that there is a single reason why. JMHO, I think it was that GW carried a much, much stronger blues influence in their music, as opposed to their contemporaries like Ratt, Dokken, Poison, Quiet Riot, etc., who were more pop influenced. All of whom I was a fan of.
@southroncross I'm more of a fan of Guns N Roses, than those other bands. The thing about GnR is that they have a lot of blues-influenced music in their metal genre.... Slash is a great blues guitarist, a lot like Joe Perry in many ways. I've just recently discovered Great White because a YouTube friend of mine, GoodGuitarSolos, told me that I sounded like Jack Russell. I'm working on singing lessons, and developing a Steven Tyler-esque sound to my voice.
@southroncross this song, along with House of Broken Love, Old Rose Motel, Rock Me, and a few of their other blues songs is on par with anything Stevie Ray Vaughan wrote....
@axltyler I would not say that, at all. SRV was a very, very special talent. A once-in-a-lifetime type talent. I am quite partial to SRV's music, and, I haven't found anything in rock and roll thats come close to what he did during his short time in the limelight.
Breathtakin'!!!!!! This song is actually a torture to listen to if you're truly in love. There are times that i can't stand listenin' to it because of the feelings it brings on top but a few moments later i'm cravin' for it like a blind man craves for light! Damn you Great White, songs like that is what a man in love hates to worship! Love Is A Lie.......a heartache i can't live with out. WHAT A SONG!
Love is a lie is so damn true isn't it ... even more so when a promise is broken when your eyes are soooo wide open.... love for sure is a lie... when you are lied to!!!
You are so right ghostrider1520james the are very under rated bands out of the 80's I must tell you get the lates CD by them 2007 Back To The Rhythm and the latest cd 2009 Rising are AWESOME CD's a must have.......GREAT WHITE is filled with soul and blues that you just can't pass up...for me they are an awesome band and I WILL always stand behind them....
boy you guys say it and its so true if any band deserves credit it would be them It never made any sense at all to me for they are and always will one of the most talented bands ever to be. i had searched this site before and today was the best for all i ever got in response was maybe one off psycho city then bam after wondering if they had more music i found like 6 or more done since then. it is awesome since the accidents i have been through to me this is heaven being gone 16 yrs is ok
for those of you who are unfamiliar with great white: if you truly love rock and roll, this is probably one of the most under rated bands in the world. the way they blend the piano with guitar is not only amazing, but very beautiful. and not just on the power ballads. their vocalist is awesome, and their songwriting is second to none. i have everything they have done. i put them right up there with zeppelin when it comes to having it all.
Love is an illussion to make them who r n it believe their life is whole and complete, when in actuality its all an illussion of what it was.
