The issues of addiction are far more complex. In order for change to occur, the dialogue here, needs to change. Questions are. Whats not being done, whats not working, and what have I done to help. Emotional issues aside, it is the Prohibition laws that make Heroin so harmful-no one is saying this stuff is harmless, but because it has been demonized and promoted as an ultimate evil (to justify the prohibition) users are forced to take adulterated shit that has nasty effects on their veins. If users could access pure stuff, and taken in sterile conditions-like in some European countries, the crime disappears, and the medical condition of users improves. Prohibition has never worked.
It is time to do away with this "War On Drugs". It is a failed policy. When will our government wake up !!! If you go into a hospital recovery room you will see the effect morphine has on many people. I have smoked and drank to a very limited degree at a younger age and quit them, no problem. It takes longer to develop a dependency to them, where using heroin just once, can totally hook you, whether you like it or not. That's what my friend has been going through recently. As for high grade heroin, my dad told me a story about how soldiers would get the really pure, high grade stuff in Vietnam. He actually saw a guy convulse to death because he over-estimated the dose, due too how much stronger it was than regular, adulterated heroin. Its really easy to OD on, moreso than alcohol. Tobacco overdoses are rare to non-existent. My friend had a near death experience with the junk actually.

@DaveErving I'm so sorry to hear that you've struggled. I've been there, really I have. From heroin, pills, methadone (which I think is the worst of all) and the rest of them. I work with detox patients in SC and many of them find success with Suboxone treatment. It's not just about the pill under the tongue. It's including therapy (one on one and group) as well as 12 step programs. It's having some fantastic success. You might want to look into it. Keep trying, love. It gets better!

It's stronger by weight (1.5-2 times) and it hits you faster, which provides a greater rush.

My friend struggled with addiction recently, and its not just psychological, like with pot. Its a physical dependency. He had seizures trying to kick it. Your body comes to depend on it like it depends on water. He actually used the same rationale of it being a slightly stronger form of morphine and figured he'd be fine since he could handle pharmaceutical opiates.

I don't know how to feel about this. Obviously, heroin addiction is terrible, but the fact that it hit the suburbs is automatically more terrible doesn't really make sense. I live 20 minutes outside of downtown Detroit and it’s just as bad that it's happening there. This is what I'm hearing here: "We have to protect our suburbs. Fuck the inner-city. @1600Percent You can still become an addict, 21 and older. The difference between H and alcohol is a lot less people use the former, so of course there's going to be less fatalities from it. You can inject it or even smoke it one time, not intending to ever do it again, and become hooked overnight. It really is that strong and powerful. That's not an exaggeration. You don't get that from drinking beer or doing a shot. Its really a good way to enslave someone economically.

@JNathanK2011 Absolutely not true. The first reaction for many people trying heroin (which is effectively morphine) is to become extremely nauseous and vomit repeatedly. If you go into a hospital recovery room you will see the effect morphine has on many people. You are just another person trying to rationalise alcohol use at the expense of another far less dangerous drug. Heroin is a very safe drug as long as it is not used with other depressants.

Alcohol is a slightly modified hydrocarbon that is toxic to cells, that is why it is used as a automotive fuel and disinfectant. The point is morphine causes only constipation and nausea. @JNathanK2011 So your argument goes like this: heroin (morphine) can cause physical dependency, therefore it is a "scourge". Alcohol and tobacco can also cause physical dependency. Heroin addiction is relatively safe provided you can get a pure and regular supply. Alcohol and tobacco dependency will substantially harm your body and can actually kill. You have a massive double standard going on here. If your are so concerned about dependency causing drugs, you have got a lot of work to do.

@dtastl Yah, those are bad and addictive too, and I don't partake in them or promote them. However, heroin is worst. I have smoked and drank to a very limited degree at a younger age and quit them, no problem. It takes longer to develop a dependency to them, where using heroin just once, can totally hook you, whether you like it or not. That's what my friend has been going through recently. As for high grade heroin, my dad told me a story about how soldiers would get the really pure, high grade stuff in Vietnam. He actually saw a guy convulse to death because he over-estimated the dose, due too how much stronger it was than regular, adulterated heroin. Its really easy to OD on, moreso than alcohol. Tobacco overdoses are rare to non-existent. My friend had a near death experience with the junk actually.

Junkies are cunning and are the primary reason new people start to use they convince people it's the best high ever not to help them but to scam as much money off of them as possible to score. If it's readily available and affordable there's going to be less people desperate for cash to get their fix. Twice the first two times I ever did painkillers, which was years ago, and once about a year ago after my friend died of cancer. I never got hooked on it even though it's 100 times better than sex it all depends on the person. @DaveErving I'm so sorry to hear that you've struggled. I've been there, really I have. From heroin, pills, methadone (which I think is the worst of all) and the rest of them. I work with detox patients in SC and many of them find success with Suboxone treatment. It's not just about the pill under the tongue. It's including therapy (one on one and group) as well as 12 step programs. It's having some fantastic success. You might want to look into it. Keep trying, love. It gets better!

@JNathanK2011 Actually the worst thing about heroin is its illegality opiates in their pure form are relatively harmless to the body the illegality of heroin makes the purity unknown which makes it a game of Russian roulette heroin is the same exact thing as morphine with two differences. It's stronger by weight (1.5-2 times) and it hits you faster, which provides a greater rush.

My friend struggled with addiction recently, and its not just psychological, like with pot. Its a physical dependency. He had seizures trying to kick it. Your body comes to depend on it like it depends on water. He actually used the same rationale of it being a slightly stronger form of morphine and figured he'd be fine since he could handle pharmaceutical opiates.
