the video camera is positioned too far away from the dancer..the distance is too far, we cannot see you or your movements clearly, only at a distance.......
You're doing really well, just watch the flow a bit. It feels a bit like you are making the picture so to speak then hurrying to get to the next one. It will probably come once you are more comfortable with the dance. Relax and allow yourself to enjoy!
I think it looks great! Im 22 - did solo seal when I was 17 (failed - I don't know one dancer that passed). I only hope I still look that good at 32 - good job!
Great Job. I did that variation and it is sooo tiring so I highly commend your stamina. Your technique is sustained through the entire variation. I think the music is too fast for you. I suggest making different tempos with the cd on your computer. I wonder if you did your solo seal soon after. Congrats.
down quicker to the floor almost in one beat with a sharp finish? You do this solo very nicely, just trying to make it brilliant as you asked for corrections, would love to see your improvement! you dont look your age and dont look our of shape either, well done!
It really is lovely, is it possible for your leg to be higher in temp leve in arabesque? lovely turns, maybe you could extend your flooor pattern out and really travel the first two sets of the enchaiment across the front of the stage, beautiful attitude turn is it possible to leave your head ever so slightly longer? lift your chin on that high releve a la seccond a little more, and then where are you looking on the releve devant? could the pose passes be a bit higher and then could you get...
you releve in efacce devant, on the step step step pas de basque, arabesque is there a possible moment where you could look at the audience? are the releves en avant from the corner ment to travel? on the next itty bitty thing really lean over and look at your foot and on the pas de bouree pique maybe look the the corners? on the two jumps after the grande jete (temp de ???) extend the first leg a bit more so its a long attitude, and try to go through the music there so you can hold that pose..
walks, and use your head, i know your thinking about the steps and programming your muscle memory, just have a look around and a look in the mirror what effect would you like, do you want the audience to look at where you are going to be an you journey or do you want them to look at you, little things like that, just watching it again I hope you dont mind all these corrections: really extend your leg and "present" your foot in pose arabesque, and if you could drop your head on the turn before...
Your technique is good, I cant tell from not being there but I think you could work on really really lifting up from your pelvic floor muscles and lower abdominals to give you more stability. My advice for you is to go over the entire dance articulating each step, perfecting it slowly 3 times for the technique and the things you find hard till you can go through them smoothly without difficulty. and then look at ballerinas and work on your artistry, for example really think tall on your runs/...
Wow...I did the other variation. Is that call gallop or polka? I can't remember. But I still recalled that my teacher forced us to do the variation one by one 3 times continuouslly.
Wow, this brings back memories of when I did solo seal! It's a really nasty variation to get through. You've done a great job teaching it to yourself. :) Most of the choreography is correct - just a few details are different but that may be a matter of interpretation.
The transitions are definitely the hardest part so keep working on that. Turnout tends to be something you need to watch too: the actual positions are good but the in between times need increased turnout. Have fun with it! ;)
32! wow awesome and still dancing! im 16 and doing inter foundation with RAD XD lol im going for exam in a month, been doing ballet for about 6 months.
@HeffernanDance "I agree. My second arabesques are shockingly low. This dance has such a fast tempo - it's so hard to keep up." x2!!! same here!!! =(
I remember you from when I was growing up. You were the best Rhythmic Gymnast in Auckland. Just amazing!!!! I watched you at a few comps (I was a ballet dancer but always wanted to do gym). Did you ever go to the Olympics or Commonwealth Games? What happened to you?
You look fantastic by the way!!!!! You were too skinny in your younger days.....
Gosh thank you! You have a good memory. Rhythmic gymnasts are very skinny. Ballet is a bit more forgiving and these days you can get away with looking quite athletic...
Thanks yes. You are so right. My ankles need a lot of releve work and much more working through the demi- pointe. Some of the transitions are so deceptively tricky in that variation making for quite awkward and dangerous positions to push up to pointe from. Like those jumps into releve arabesque and saut de basque to releve a la seconde. But I guess it's not supposed to be easy!!
My tip: when you come up to pointe, you are pushing your body onto it, not relying in your ankles strenght, as you can see in 0:38. This also aplies to when you come down from pointe, your heels touch the ground too stiffly and too early.
Well done! I wish I could still take ballet class (achilles snapped years ago). I recognise the RAD Solo Seal music for this...just the same as when I took it umpty-dumpty years ago!!
So, did you belong to a ballet company before or are you a teacher now? Just curious (and a bit envious :)!) [Message me if you don't want to tell the world! I'd really love to know].
Once again, bravo you!! (And more best wishes for continuing)
wow...listen to that fantastic panting at the end! LOL XD

Gosh a snapped achilles is pretty serious. I broke an ankle pretty badily two years ago and it put me out of proper action for a year.
I believe they are about to change solo seal work and this is the last year you can sit using the old choreography.
Well done on doing solo seal - trust me I know how hard it is!
