  • Throwing out a little Human Traffic quote guys, regarding mdma comments.

"What goes up must come down, and down, and down. Everyone looks ill at the end of the night. All have lost the power of speech, desperately avoiding eye contact. Your new soulmate.. is now a complete stranger..The only thing that you have got in common now is paranoia. It's coming through the walls, man. We are no longer all together as one but separate mental patients..."

Put mdma back in the hands of psychiatrist.

  • @CounterFlower well said

  • @JAKEHARRIS281 Most of his "discover" is derived form another.

  • @JAKEHARRIS281 no he didnt and thats not close to true

  • One of the most important people for the survival of homo sapiens alive today

  • this guy is a ginius. but after doing lots of drugs partticularl tryptomens i see the downside of them most of them wont kill in any does your lightly to get your hands on but using them can seriously fuck up your mental helth both sundly as in the cases of a few frends or over a few years in the case of myself if your going to use them treat them with the respect they diserve its easer to unbalence a brain than rebalence it

  • fascinating face

  • he should teach orgo at u of m

  • This man is responsible for many positive changes in my life. I wish I could shake his hand and thank him.

  • I wish Sasha Shulgin was my grandfather, i would visit him everyday.

  • shulgin is genuis, I have been lucky enough to have been offered very rare psychedelics...

  • I really hope I can go to his book signing the 18th.

  • LSD SHOULD BE LEGALIZED

  • 2cb changed my life in a very positive way. Thank you Dr. Shulgin

  • I wish he was my granddad.

  • @ziggycasey86 oh man, all those big words!

you must be a juggalo or something :)

  • @JasonSims1984 You sir is ignorant. Stop talking about things you obviously don't know

  • @JasonSims1984 Sorry man, but Alexander Shulgin tested hundreds of his own psychedelic drugs on himself multiple times, and he is still alive today at an old age of 86 years, more than what even the healthiest American's can boast. Death of young teenagers comes in part from overdoses on these drugs, and in his book he gives clear guidelines for safe dosages. Then it also comes from the corrupt drug dealers who try to pass of certain drugs for others, which can be fatal. It's not the drug.

  • @JasonSims1984 so do you rant and rave about big pharma and liquor stores killing all the "innocent" kids as well?

  • @JasonSims1984 get your facts straight you ignorant

  • @JasonSims1984 going to cut your head off and put it on a stick

  • @JasonSims1984 Lol. Are you joking.

  • @JasonSims1984 He didn't invent MDMA. It was invented in 1912 by Merck chemist Anton Köllisch.

  • @JasonSims1984

What have you done for humanity lately...

I'd guess and say... Fuck all.

  • that is the most makeshift lab wtf

  • Structure and function. Man.

  • Phenethylamines I Have Known And Loved.

    aka PIKAL

Anyone who says drugs are bad has never taken psychedelics.

  • i have no idea what he's saying but it's some mad genius shit

  • I think that people are starting to forget what actually goes into synthesizing psychedelic compounds, and that's the reason for the abuse/overdoses/and overall popularity in society.

  • sasha shulgin sasha shulgin sasha shulgin sasha shulgin sasha shulgin sasha shulgin

  • Thumbs up for DR. Sasha! But some drugs just does that , if you realy have a clue what youre about to do, do it very wisely.

  • If David Lynch were a chemist...

  • Does anybody know what the fuck he is doing? i don't care what he's making, but by what process he's making it. what is it called? it looks pretty complex.

  • what happened to alexander. did he die?

  • i should be making homework now.. but drugs are so facinating

  • This drug can give you major shits xD

  • Guinea pig here....

  • Gah. What a legend.

  • my head just exploded...total o-chem flashback lol

  • hope he pulls through!

  • i wish this old geezer whz my old man

  • they should put E in the public water supply. within hours, i bet crime goes down 90%

  • @hyperlexic2 I have thought that same exact thing. If everyone on earth was on a low dose, the world would be perfect. No war. No terrorism. No crime. :^/

  • @hyperlexic2

Actually, crime would go up to 100% because every person would be a criminal for ingesting a controlled substance...

  • @Jacob15728 i think he means actual crime, robbings, killings etc.. instead of some bullshit govenment law which states that a person cannot take a substance which has killed less people in its existence than alcohol or tobacco do in a year...

  • @Jacob15728 but who would give fuck.

  • @Jacob15728 No police wouldn't arrest you, instead you get a hug

  • @Jacob15728 No it wouldn't..... because if you know what E does. You'll know what it does to people. Do you think people would commit crimes on it?..and do you know think cops would be dicks and arrest people? nope!

  • @Jacob15728

If it were allowed to be put into public water supplies, it wouldn't be a controlled substance anymore.

  • @hyperlexic2 me and you shud start a lab than hack the american water suplly and the plan will commence

  • @hyperlexic2 water treatment plants actually extract MDMA from public water because its carsenigenic, but fuck yea they should leave that shit in there or add more

  • Is it not it interesting to hear him talk that baeocystin has a similar resemblance to that of serotonin, serotonin being a naturally occurring material in the brain. If you tweak the "frequency" (so to speak) of the signal being received by the "receiver" or shall we say "receptor", you get a different "reception" to that which is expected. Expected of course is ones normal perception of the world around him. Slightly tweaking the "signal" produces a different reception. Very interesting stuff.

  • Genius. Absolute genius.

  • Very interesting. Makes me want to study Bio Chemistry but I better do my thing and leave this to the experts!!

  • sacred monster. Don't touch Sasha

  • is he chopping a chacruna leaf~aka~psychotria viridis??????

  • is he chopping a charunga~psychotria viridis??????

  • He's not really the father of MDMA, btw. that was Anton Köllisch, in 1912.

And beside other Shulgin's molecules, mdma is nothing =D

He's a continue inspiration for me. Can't wait to see the movie about him

  • @Arimane

theres going to be a movie about him ? please could you tell me when this is coming out and what it is called ?

  • @vibrancy3 sure... the movie/documentary is called Dirty Pictures... you can just google "dirty pictures shulgin" or give a look to the trailer here on youtube

  • @Arimane yerr after you mentioned it, i gone a quic google, they say screenings started in march but cant see the film round a ywhere yet?

soo xcited to see this :D

  • @vibrancy3 No, but there should be a DVD release soon, standing to what the official site says. I think in 1-2 months, for purchasing the DVD, don't know about eventually streaming. I think the original dvd worths!

  • @Arimane

sweeet, ill b getting a copy 4 shure (god i bet they are gunna make alot of dosh with the dvd release!!!) cheers 4 the info ;)

  • @vibrancy3 You're very welcome =)

  • i can follow what hes saying but its a bit tough he pronounces things strange to me

  • no that is what i call science

  • Howcome he doesn't have a Nobel prize yet?

  • haha everyone is on drugs! take that DEA

  • i want to trip 4ever

  • Shulgin is the man!!

  • @mewrox99 14 and? LOOK EVERYONE HE'S 14 , *shines spotlight on you*

  • @mewrox99 I am 18 and I understand nothing he is saying, because I don't listen english, I only write and read it :( LOL

  • @mewrox99 stfu u dont sound cool saying that

  • @dimidavdad

there's no need to be so rude. It was an old stupid comment i made ages ago

  • @mewrox99 Im Sorry

  • good chemist?

  • I'm going to be honest....I don't have a fucking clue about what he's saying but it sounds awesome!! xD

  • more than 27 people visitors would like to be shulgins drug development protege

I suggest bing or yahooing chloromdma then visiting the link to beanangel at halfbakery basically halogenating drugs makes them more active at the receptor splenda is chlorosucrose 300 times sweeter than sugar fluorocortisone is 700 times more powerful than cortisone what is chloroBud or chloroPoppygoop

  • @BeanangelTreon Reaction of gamma-tocopherol with hypochlorous acid.

Nguyen Q, Southwell-Keely PT. at pubmed describes what amounts to a bleach plus rubber cement thinner plus water way to halogenate a physiochemical

  • this man is making screws for a screwdriver that hasint been invented yet! lol...i actually stole that line off him when he had a interview with the late ,great, magical terrence mckenna

  • this guy is crazy smart

  • @highdesertskater18 And guess what? He has taken all the drugs he has synthesized..... He's not a dumb ineffective bitch...

  • Im curious how Dr Schulgin manages to not get arrested. Does he have permits to synthesize (and consume) these compounds?

  • @JesusHChrist2000 He made Dow Chemical Company a lot of money off a drug he researched called Zectran. Then he acquired a schedule I DEA license and started synthesizing all these different Psychoactive drugs. At the time the majority weren't illegal but I don't believe he could legally consume them.

  • @JesusHChrist2000 from what i heard he did, until some allegations surfaced that he had been distributing some of his product, his lab got raided, they found no proof whatsoever but he lost his license anyway..

  • @JesusHChrist2000 You can't get arrested for making legal substances.

  • @Thormy08 No you can't. What does that have to do with Dr Schulgin making and consuming class A drugs?

  • @JesusHChrist2000 When he invented, created and tasted his substances, they were all virtually unknown to man. (at least noone had ever thought, that MDMA would have any recreational value, before Shulgin)

On top of that, he had a full DEA license, enabling him to legally possess, produce and handle psychotropic drugs and substances - even those illegal at the time.

In later years, I think Shulgin was smart enough to steer clear of too large quantities of drugs - incase the DEA came.

  • @JesusHChrist2000 As others have mentioned, he has a Schedule I license, so he can possess illegal chemicals, but also, mere synthesis, purchase and distribution of unscheduled chemicals is legal, as is their consumption. The only (practically unenforceable) technicality is, after the 1986 Federal Analogues Act, possessing or commerce with analogues of Schedule I chemical is illegal...if not marked as 'not for human consumption'. Taking, or being on a chem post ex facto is not prohibited.

  • anyone else notice that they showed the wrong structures?

  • @SSJkiller

The ball-and-stick models were psilocin and psilocybin, respectively.

  • he is an absolute genius. it would be awesome to meet him

  • I got to use DOM aka STP once in 1968. We took it at 8am and at 2am the next day I was still trippin.

  • I, three, would volunteer a lone testicle to speak with this gentleman about his spice rack.

  • I, too, would donate my left testicle to meet Dr. Shulgin and discuss the finer aspects of psychopharmacology.

  • i would give my left nut to visit his lab and talk to him personally about mind chemicals

  • thank you so much

  • 5-MeO-AMT is synthesised, and it's available. It's rare, though.

Also known as a,O-DMS, discussion of the compound is included in TiHKAL.

  • Shulgin is an American treasure. I wish I could meet him, more than any other celebrity. I have so many questions for him!

  • 2,3,4 mg! why isnt anyone synthesizing this !

  • the pineal gland.. is dead center of the brain.. its released during rem sleep and mili-seconds before you die..

Vodoo doctors use DMT.. as well

  • is that proven or just theory?

  • @originaltbyrd Its proven lol. Look it up on goggle if u don't belive it.

    420 Peace Pot

  • @xXxtokerxXx90210 you might want to look into that more - the pineal gland bit is theory, not proven fact.

  • Thanks shulgin,

    you da man!

  • This man is THE MAN!

  • I love his little personal lab.

    I need one of those

  • I love this man

  • I wish i could be this mans apprentice

  • @Lsdgotaholdofme Do'nt we all???? 8-)

  • Stick with KFC

  • Is his o, alpha-dimethyl-serotonin listed as 5-MEO-DMT?

  • His compound differs from serotonin by 2 methyl groups. He designates their positions by O (the oxygen atom in serotonin) and α (the carbon bearing the NH2 group). No methyl groups are attached to the amino nitrogen atom. His compound would be 5-MeO-AMT (5-methoxy-α-methyltryptamine).

  • holy fuckin tits.

    smart man.

    stumbled

  • yeye MDMA made me feel retarded after one dose obviously it was just the meth in the ecstasy pill

  • They say "drugs ruin your mind"

Listen to this man talk chemistry.

  • made me giggle

    so true ;)

  • Fool

  • @voznow7

I wonder how much he has taken, he is still a genius

  • @Alexharcourt he admitted in another vid that he felt his brain was fried ;)

  • @voznow7

shulgin doesnt use regular drugs. He invents and re-synthesizes psychedelics. he did NOT invent mdma, but did popularize it, but he did invent 2c-b 2c-e 2c-e 2c-t-7 and many many others and tried them out at different doses on himself and his wife, Ann.

  • @voznow7 and I think Alexander Shulgin can go on record for the most drugs ever consumed (variety), he had access to such a wide range from all those tryptamines and phenethylamines.

  • @voznow7 as it should be chemistry

  • Where to get the documentary?

  • cool, i wonder how similar it is to psyliosin, erowid it as 5-MeO-AMT. Still unscheduled XD gotta check this out for sure.

  • I think you might want to check your facts, here, buddy.

  • Sorry, you're right, i misheard the last part of what he was saying. Incidentally, I'm fairly sure I took 5-meo-amt one time when it was being sold as something else on a little scrap of paper, as it clearly wasn't what it was supposed to be and effects matched up with descriptions of 5-meo-amt I've heard. If so, it bears a bit of a similarity to psilocin but has significant differences. You'll want to watch out for a much longer duration as well as more nausea and peripheral body effects.

  • TOTALLY OFF THE HOOOOK :P

  • Damn, legalize it! NOW!

  • hells ya. i went to a rave last friday and thats all one dude was talking about.

  • Why do people still think because a consciouss is altered, the experience of consciousness is more worthwhile? I always wonder, if being high would be the 'normal' state of consciouss, would people find the experience of what for us is 'being sober' a worthile experience, because it would also give different insights? If yes, would that not mean that a altered state is not inherently worthwhile, but only relatively so because it gives different viewpoint relative to our normal state?

  • I think so.

  • to the general population, reality at face value is painfully dull. so yes. but hallucinogens, i think, exaggerate reality rather than reduce it, so the psychedelics don't quite fit into that picture.

  • It is interesting to think that the dream state can and does indeed create meaningful and thoughtful experiences that one can work off of and one can use to them them throughout a tough situation or many questions. But unlike Sir Shulgan cookers or modern chemists whom make these hallucinogens are making them out of their kitchen, bathroom or basement. Money is the name of the game and unfortunately if you do the toxicology, you will find much more than the pure chemical.

  • if being high were normal, being sober would be exciting. if youve ever been fucked up for days upon days, then being sober is more fucked up that actually being fucked up. getting high is all about the change in your current reality

  • No one is saying a shift in consciousness is inherently more worthwhile. However, some alterations of consciousness act as a catalyst for people to take more from life, so to speak. Ppl in general are similar enough mentally and physically that a moderate or high dose of MDMA will 99% of the time promote mental clarity, empathy, understading, etc, while a shitload of alcohol will just make you stupid.

  • I guess what im saying is that your question is sort of broad and hypothetical. If in an alternate universe we were always "under the influence" and one day we were "sober" the viewpoint we have might not necessarily be worthwhile, depending on what "under the influence" is in that universe.

  • I got to spend time with him and his wife and Terence Mckenna in the mayan ruins - talk about a trip:))

  • This is why i'm studying chemistry, because of geniuses like this guy. I have more respect for Alexander Shulgin and Albert Hoffman than any other people on the planet.

  • Legit.

what a prime example of the understanding of psychoactives and the mind, pharmacologist master.

  • Ohhh yeah me and old sasha go waay back.

    Haha picture him rollin balls.

  • thats all your brain is unknown reactions and interactions and chemical reactions and electric reactions. dmt mdma lsd salvinorin-a just change it up and help you explore your mind imagination.

  • If society on average had half the intelligence, the ethical standards and moral code of this man we'd be diong much much better. Some day when we've matured beyond our present adolesence the work of this man will be an invaluable source of information and for scientists and his tools all of which he has tested and documented, a vast pharmacopia for the psychiatrists or psychedelic therapist of the future. He'll take his place in history as one of the bravest most instrumental men of the 20th C

  • what you wrote was very true. In a sane world Dr Shulgin would be awarded a Nobel Prize.

  • He's a tool maker and his fascination is with the interaction between brain and mind. His life's work is the development of tools to better understand this relationship, of which he has made well over 200. I challenge any one who thinks little of thes man to read his books PiHKAL or TiHKAL and not think very highly of him.

  • isnt he called alexander?

  • He's called "Sasha" by his friends for some reason.

  • Sasha is informal for the name Alexander In Russia that is.

They are same, but Sasha would be used by friends, or close people. Alexander by employers and employes

  • Sasha is the diminutive form of Alexander in Russian. It's like a nickname.

  • you are a joke to this world, go to google and look up how to make noose and make it and use it Good bye repulsive loser have fun sucking dead black guys off you downright lowest form of crap their is.

  • Me and Mr Shulgin should've been related.

  • if you dont like drugs why are you watching this video.

    your ignorant.

  • Dr. Shulgin's work demonstrates the fact that changing one functional group on a psychoactive molecule can completely change the subjective effects in humans. It's not (necessarily) about tripping, it's about understanding the human mind from a biochemical standpoint. If you can't respect that, I don't know what to tell you.

  • Well said. Humanity really needs to get out of this whole "information is dangerous" phase.

  • Probably won't happen in our lifetime.. information is dangerous because information is power, and the powers that be don't like giving up their power. :D

  • Shulgin is my hero!!!!!!!

  • this guy is a hero

  • god bless shulgin.

  • to have the power to be able to change a persons life for the good over night- to have the power to be able make a person be whom that person always wanted to be personality wise with the power of a pill- amazing

  • im really beginning to get interested in the science of chemistry always thought it was boring until now- wow- this guy is a giant

  • I hope this is Shulgin's actual legacy. Not the discovery of hallucinogens, but the inspiration to countless people to take a greater interest in the science of chemistry.

  • Give that man a nobel prize, NOW!

  • i wonder if this guy is naturally this smart or does he have some special in his system stimulating areas of mind that arent normally stimulated under normal circumstances
