Rich, powerful, and so well designed musically and then vocally. LOVE the string track and the vocal piece that led to the string arrangement. Pet Sounds was truly an innovation.
most music listeners of today won't even begin to comprehend the complexity of this music, electronics are beginning to dominate what used to be people's creativity, times have changed for sure
I love Brian's early piano version. It totally conveys the feeling of the final recording, in an embryonic sort of way. I mean obviously it's played very simply, but that's obviously just his way of laying the foundations in a way that's easy to read musically.
If anyone is interested I uploaded a mix of this song with the 1:05 harmony in it. It isn't perfect (I only spent an hour or so editing it) but it may be worth listening to lol.
This is one of the most beautiful songs that has been written in the last half of the 20th century (maybe ever from my auditory perspective). WOW....talk about DEEP!! I feel Brian knew about me, even before I was born!
Pet sounds for me, is a brian wilson solo album with the bbs on backing vocals. Its hard to beleive that one man could have that much talent musically.!
Sorry, didn't mean to be offensive. But the last time I saw him, he was in sad shape. But the good part is, he made a comebac k. I know you are only 25 and maybe a family member, but seeing Brian perform was a high point in my life, even though it was the worst in his!
It's too phoenomenol almost to grasp what he has done here....in 1965 I was at primary school singing along to Old Farmer Buck on BBC Radio....and at the other side of the world Brian Wilson is creating music that is mind blowing. I have been a fan all of my life and even have his hair drier I got after a concert (amazing eh) ......but I now believe Brian done all his greatest music in a five year period (maybe six) ....his mind must have been amazing in that time.
Thank-you. I really appreciated this. Even though I have listened to this LP so many times, your series gives me yet another deep appreciation for the work.
Well, of course Brian worshipped Specter and hung around his sessions when he was producing. So I would say he was most influenced as a producer by Specter. He may have more influences production wise, but I can't think of any right now.

i believe that it is the group that you hear. In the full version of this (called unreleased backgrounds) you can hear brian singing a part solo, then chuck britzer comes on and tells him to do it again.
There is no real evidence that Brian multitracked this himself.

Certainly one of the most beautiful pieces Brian ever wrote- and that moment b4
the bridge where Brian sings "listen...listen" is one of the most transcendent
moments in all of pop music.Pure genius.

@1:07 What song is that he's doing the harmonies for?
buddybopper 1 year ago
@buddybopper thats the vocal snippet he recorded for the song Dont Talk-He recorded it by himself but never used it on the final cut.

@buddybopper the harmonies are for Don't Talk he just didn't include them in his final mix

I think i heard about Brian doing that vocal overdubbing clip to show the session musicians what the general "feel" of the track should sound like.

I am pretty sure that 1:05 - 1:25 is the most beautiful vocal piece I have ever heard - and it isn't even in the song!
Pet Sounds IS the greatest album ever made...nothing comes close and nothing probably ever will.

I like how Brian caught himself, "Shit" "I mean Shoot," he was probably trying to sound professional around the wrecking crew.
This the only session he does that. Others are full force and anything comes out of Brian. lol

this is heaven on earth ! Never before and after will I never hear anything as beautiful as this..
He must have had some contact with the powers above because this is simply out of this world..
And at that age and without no one to copy...

That vocal piece is amazing. So cool how he had the sounds in his head way before recording...

The magnitude of heartfelt emotion expressed by Brian's vocals and the strings from 4:10 and on...almost too much emotion for the soul to handle.
