People are entitled to their own opinion or have you forgot that? If you enjoy lower quality beer then good for you, I don't give a shit
what beers do u recommend in a sports bar here in NYC. boston lager was my first beer then summer ale. but i have nothing to compare it to should i try others like Heineken? or Guinness? whats a good common beer i can find in a regular place.i saw ur Budweiser and corona review not gonna spend $ on that.
@elharlock budweiser coors miller guinness corona anything famous heinaken. amstel light.from what i saw. but i think ill stick with sam adams since the others u reviewed seem bad
@thunderheart226 Sounds like Sam Adams is the best way to go at that place. However, even when it comes to more famous beers or bigger brands, I encourage people to try everything at least once. You can't develop much of a taste for what you like if you haven't tasted much of anything. :)
@thunderheart226 Generally I prefer darker beers. Stouts, amber ales, porters, brown ales, etc. You just tend to find more flavour and character in those beers. But there are a lot of great lagers out there with similiar qualities. You've had Sam Adams, so you know this. You compare that to Budweiser and it's like Bud is from a totally different planet. If you like Sam Adams, I'd suggest you look for Dos Equis Amber and Anchor Steam, which are both Vienna style lagers (like Sam Adams).
The first and last time I tried a Sam Adams was at Logan airport in Boston and it was a total waste of money, the only reason I tried one was because I wanted to try something different at the time. It tasted to me like they used the water from Boston harbour to brew this crap.
I'm still really enjoying this beer! Had it for the first time in Boston in 2006 while I was there to see The Pogues. Was so happy to see it available locally this past year.
@elharlock That's the thing. I don't know it's it's so good that...or so expensive that I don't need to drink'm all in one sitting. With Keith's IPA or Oland's, etc, I might have 3 or 4 in a sitting, but when all I have is the Boston Lager, I may have one a night or every other night unless I'm working outside or on some other project.
@dac186 Almost a "reward beer" then? As in a beer you have after a long day at the office or doing chores. It's got enough character to it that you can sit back and savour it and relax.
@BohleyK Yeah, sadly a lot of my newer videos cover some pretty bland or just plain awful beers. Sam Adams doesn't fit either of those descriptions, thankfully.
I just tried this one and after a 6 pack I'm not really a fan. There is a really harsh bitterness and not in that Ale kind of way. I might have just drawn the runt of the litter but it really isn't all that pleasant and i've had to force the last sip of my pint glass down with the last four. I need to stick to dark beer methinks lagers don't really agree with me at all.
@elharlock Because while I'm sitting there simply enjoying drinking my beer, I'd have to put up with you next to me smelling carefully tasting it, and making ceaseless comments about the finish and the consistency of the head. I feel like it would drive me crazy.
I wanted to let you know - Moosehead Breweries just signed a deal with Boston Beer Company to distribute Sam Adams in Canada. The beer will still be brewed in the states, but Moosehead will handle distribution north of the border, which includes distributing their Tasters Packs and Seasonals. Can't wait to see if we'll get Honey Porter and Cream Stout.
I've only JUST found this here at the Porters Lake NSLC. They say they've had it about a month. This is what I drink when in Boston and I was delighted to finally see it here.
Yeah, so then I just don't drink as much/as many at a time. Yeah right! It's just so good. 'Round here I find the Propeller stuff has a very bitter flavour at the end, This Boston Lager has an element of this same bitterness, but nowhere as strong, and I actually like it in the Boston Lager.
@dac186 Yeah, Propeller models their beers after traditional British brewing styles, so you'll tend to find their stuff more bitter. Sam Adams Boston Lager is more in the style of a Vienna Lager, which is somewhat darker than typical lagers, and has more character, much like an ale, but lacking the same bitterness.
I've tried ales, lagers, porters from many different countries over the years. From Stella, Carlsberg, Belgium, Japan, you name it, and I have settled on Original Sam Adams as the best tasting beer. Always drink it from a glass or mug.
this one has too sharp of a "twang" in there or somethin. Obviously better than plenty of other lagers...but that twang in there...not bad but not necessarily good, I just find that little taste to be weird like I can't make sense of it, lol.
I hear you on the citrus note. You can't go wrong with a Sam but in terms of regional lagers I tend to lean towards Yuengling, not sure if you get that up there though.
10 Years without a Sam!?!? That's rough. You are pretty much right on with it being better than macro beers but not up to snuff with other lagers like Anchor (which started at the same time as Sam Adams in San Francisco and is considered the Sam of the West Coast). Very Unfortunate that you can't get the other beers they offer like the seasonals. Their Black Lager is even better. Overall I only go to Sam as a last resort but they hold their own. Again, Nicely Done!
Nice review. This beer has recently been added to the Quebec liquor stores, but it's even more expensive ($3.55 a bottle I think; only sold in singles). I've yet to try it...
I was also confused about the standard bottle sizes. Turned out, the standard for American beers is 12 US fl. oz (355ml), while in Canada it's 12 normal, imperial ounces, which is the 341ml we're used to.
Nah, i fully realize that the exchange conversion is present. I've vacationed in Canada many times and love it. There's been many a times i've considered moving there.
Omg, you paid 15 dollars for that? Wow. I'm not even a very big fan of the Boston Lager.
Well in the USA, its between 7 and 8 bucks. But by no means is a Sam Adams sixer worth 15 bucks. I say you should stick to your Canadians beers, cuz that is just ridiculous. There's a lot of other great beers in the USA which, by paying 15 dollars, you're get a lot better quality. I say you should take a road trip. Where's ur nearest USA/Canadian border? lol
Good to know you've finally checked out some Sam Aadams. We just need to get some of their better brews in your hands, as they REALLY do make some damn good craft beers. Their Imperial series is very good, and I would think you'd probably like their 15 dollar "Chocolate Bock". But hell, i live in Florida, so i'm as far away from Boston as can be.
I really like their Pale Ale, White Ale and Winter Lager.
FINALLY! Great to see you review this which SHOULD be America's flagship beer (NOT Bud - ugh!).
The standard American beer bottle is 12oz. We don't do that metric crap (except when it comes to measuring narcotics). LOL
I always thought this tastes more like a pale ale than a lager of any kind. I like the caramel taste and the hop bite. It's really heavy for a lager, though.
Yeah hopefully Canada will get more Sam Adams brews (except Cherry Wheat).
It *is* the USA's flagship beer, in the sense of Sam Adams being the biggest American brewery under fully USA control (Anheuser-Busch = Belgian/Brazilian, Miller = British/South African, Coors = Canadian).
@h100spfld You said "Coors = Canadian" but actually Coors which is owned by Molson Coors Brewing Company is half-U.S., half-Canadian since the merger of Molson and Coors in 2004. Control is equally shared between the Molson and Coors families. But you're right, it's not fully under US control like Sam Adams is.
Good review. I have a fresh 12-pack I'm going to open in just a few hours. I can't wait to try this beer.

Where's ur nearest USA/Canadian border? lol

Bear in mind the exchange rate. The US dollar has traditionally been stronger than the Canadian.

You know we're at 88 cents currently and have been as high as a full dollar right?
Technically you are correct though, the exchange rate inflates the price as do tariffs, etc..

nice, good to see ya review this one.... when it comes to lagers, this is still the best I've found.....

That reminds me, I had to pay 15 dollars for one 6-pack of this. How much do the 6-packs go for in the USA?

between 9 and 11 bucks

That's encouraging. I've always wondered about this lager. I might have to try some now. Thanks for your reviews!

Great review!

Ahh, your 12oz is slightly larger than the 12oz we have in Canada (341ml).
