  • AAaahhhh - this is really good old garage rock from the 60s. I love it - it´s raw and honest - no overdubs, no samples, no noting - just only good garage rock. My hobby is to rediscover all those great bands from the 60s that didn´t "broke through". It´s a fantastic musical treasure. Listen for example to THE ZETTLERS ("Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah"=f....g good with a bloody driving beat), The Music Machine ("Talk, talk") and The Golliwogs ("Tell me"= and the singer is?=yes it´s him).

  • they were at least 10 years ahead, stuck up guy with sunglasses is definitely Elton John in his thirtees

  • Acid/garage at its ferocious best! This is most emphatically not "flower power" psychedelia.

  • East Coast King Tone from 1967. Bring it all back!

  • Hey, isn't that goofy kid (with the hat) Mickey Rooney's son?

  • When I listen to this, I like to turn off the sound to the movie Time After Time (the trippy color-negative scene where HG is traveling through Time). Moreover, I must ask, "Hey man, where's Stoney?" With apologies to the B movie, Psyche-Out (1967) starring Jack Nicholson. LOVE THIS TUNE!

  • damn... FINE ladies. BTW I finished transcribing this song bass/guitar/solo if anyone is interested...

  • @halalbackgirl >eah... I'm tellin' ya... and the best thing about them is their ATTITUDE !!!

  • What makes the original versions of these garage classics better than any cover, even the might Cramps in this case, is the vocal phrasing, vintage production, and impossible to duplicate ambiance of the era. This is killer, beyond great. 5 gold stars

  • Five Years Ahead Of My Time - The Third Bardo [New York] - 1967 - "From somewhere on the East Coast came this bone-shattering record. Reflecting the cocksure psychedelic arrogance of a generation that had mastered the art of building solid walls of fuzztone and putting down their adversaries with withering scorn." - Pebbles Vol. 3: The Acid Gallery-1992.

  • @mikekadas In my opinion, this is one of the greatest albums of singles that anyone has ever put together.

We will never see their like again.

  • @TOBERT001 I know what your talking about. Half of the songs are above average (4 stars and above) including these GEMS: Suicidal Flowers - Crystal Chandelier [Providence, Rhode Island] - 1969, Dom Kallar Oss Mods (They Call Us Mods) - Lea Riders Group [Borgholm, Sweden] - 1968.

  • righteous!

  • epic song

  • today is the greatest today is the greatest today is the greatest day!!!

    like like like

ps @ some posts i read - drugs never even crossed my mind when i first heard this song - it speaks to me about non-conformity and thinking for yourself - like "i'm not like everybody else" does to me also (o:

    yay for garage rock

  • I like the Seeds, but let's face it.They only had 1 top 40 song. Not exactly a juggernaut hit making machine.Alot of GREAT 60s music fell by the wayside, because competition was so fierce, and there were more small record labels that put out wonderful stuff that did well locally and sank without a trace nationally.

  • hey i am reliving the daze of the sunset strip.....wow cool to hear sky saxon

  • 3 patch wearing dogs

  • The Third Bardo! Bitch! Good thing they WEREN'T five years ahead of their time, or this would be some crappy top 40 AM radio horsecrap

  • This song totally changed my life. Forever.

  • Thank Odin I found this.

  • I like the Seeds,But why get pissy. The sun does NOT rise and set in California. This is a GREAT song that deserved better...

  • Heard this song from the pebbles albums. I think it was one of the acid gallery one. The girl in blue at 15 secs looks amazing. She's probably old and wrinkled by now though.

  • Excellent song! They are from Long Island. That movie is very cool too!

  • btw , the scene is from Riot on sunset strip, featuring the Standells and THe Chocoalte watchband ,It's a classic!

  • This song has Rusty Evans written all over it,

  • The drugs were so much better back then they make people hip not a drag like today.

  • @jeffpolara My thoughts are that it's harder these days to find psychedelic drugs and much easier to find the bad ones... I've still never come across ANYONE with LSD, but maybe I just don't know where to look.

  • @jeffpolara What kind of drugs are you referring to? LSD? Cannabis? Psilocybin mushrooms? Those drugs are still available today and I don't know about you, but they make people very "hip". And now there are even more drugs: MDMA, the whole 2c family, etc. And those drugs are "newer", but still, once again, makes you very "hip". Learn about drugs before you try to say something smart about them. Thanks. Peace and Love.

  • @xKahunax I'm getting old and never heard of some of that stuff. I do know that alot of the punks these days are moody and a drag from crack and meth.

  • @jeffpolara Yeah you're right about that. Crack cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and all the countless pharmaceuticals that kids like to get strung out on today are all bad news. I would classify those as "harder" drugs. They are physically addicting, damaging to your health and harmful to your psyche. However, the hallucinogens, like those used in the 1960's psychedelic era and today, are safe and fun if taken in the right environment and if used in moderation.

  • this song always reminds me of the long summer days ,13 years ago, stripey hipsters , furry waistcoat and blond hair, oh not to forget the beatle boots etc , what i sight ! I looked like the best of pebbles character , aaaarrrrrrghhh! garage scream!

  • BrotherPaul is trippin' !! 13 years? More like 40 years ago, or more. Maybe he is 25 years behind the time. Or maybe time is a circle, or maybe I'm trippin' too.

  • it was a garage revival in the mid to late 90's , i am goin back even farther or just a time rebel , now i loook more 50's and i'm in my 30's , what a total gas!

  • tis song was 50years ahead of its time.

  • Actually, I think Third Bardo even were better than The Seeds. And I miss John's Children.

  • Did The Third Bardo have any hit records? No? That's what I thought. The Seeds had hit records and were hugely influential. They were huge here in S. California, getting radio play night and day.

  • We don't appreciate talk of the Seeds 'round these parts, boy.

  • So you're from Dullsville, right?

  • Just curious why you dont like the Seeds.

  • Oh, I have nothing against them, I was just joking around because there was a poster who was saying that the Seeds were much better than Third Bardo.

  • funky clip! many thanks to mark and dean mittlehauser for introducing this music to australia! Yes it was not that moron ghost who walks [because he smoke too much grass]. In 1982 walker was still a hippy smoking the bong!!

  • Young folks were the same way back then as now. As the Bible says there is nothing new under the sun".

  • Always a Spellbinding song..and primal screams cover of this is amazing too~

  • another excellent song

  • No doubt they STILL look good!

  • Hard to believe that these hot chicks are old ladies now!

  • yes, so next time you roll your eyes at your parents and grandparents, just remember they led (sometimes pretty crazy) lives before you came along.

  • You'll be dust soon.

  • Your right behind me LOL. This was one of my faves from the Pebbles Compilations. Check out those hot chicks they are probably in their 60s now!

  • I know that LOL

  • Beautiful Mimsy Farmer...yeah, baby!!!

  • If anyone wants guitar TAB? The 'twilight zone riff' is:( e-b-Bb-e-b-Bb-b-E). and the ascending lead is Em pentatonic scale on top of the riff...then... The verse: Em-D-Em-2x's Em-G-Am-C Chorus: Em-D-Em-G-Am-C-Em-D-Em

You'll get the idea..not too difficult

  • as dick stainy pointed out it was produced by the genius rusty evans ,the man behind such bands as the deep and freak scene ,check em out jarl

  • videos like this always make me sad i wasn't born in the '40s...so that i would be my age in the the best decade ever!!

  • Yes i know it came out in 1967!!!

  • This came out in 1962.(They were 5 years ahead of their time)LOL

  • groovy song....

  • This song has Rusty Evans written all over it!!

  • This was also issued by Sundazed on a 10" with a couple other tracks.

  • Pebbles vol.3

  • I thought Pebbles vol 1,,,pink vinyl release.

  • couldn't have put it better myself my good man...insane track.

  • Dig it!

  • hey use the dance scenes for as many songs as you can find. I'm using a lot of bandstand footage for 50's songs. people seem to like it.

  • From L.I.,N.Y. released 5/67. Jeff Monn delivers the snotty vocals and Rick Goldklang on lead gtr. Rusty Evans wrote this with Victoria Pike. Rusty was a member of The Deep and Nervous Breakdown.

  • @Jerseyjoez1 thankxs!!!

  • Third bardo is a book written In a Budhist

text called The Tibetan book of the dead.

Look for it in you tube.Get five years ahead

    of your time!!!!!!

  • This song cooks!

  • Goverment propaganda ,with water gate not the

    summer of love............

  • LSD and all hallucinogens to most of those who have experience- awaken and make you more understanding & peaceful.

In this movie, the dorky character in the hat is portrayed as a real jerk out to mess up others. Shame on A.I.P. for the crappy premise of the movie.

The song here is an underappreciated, little known monster. Sadly, only few will ever hear & appreciate it.

  • yeah, it does come across like government propaganda at times but excellent music from chocolate watch band and standells and dance scenes like these saved it.

  • You're right. Thanks for being with it. Too bad, mostly squares in media & especially govt. etc. have so much hold.

  • Dude, you can bet I appreciate this song!

  • @kub73158

Hi, sorry, may I have the title of this movie...

  • @venostar Movie was Riot On Sunset Strip. This tune didn't appear on the sound track. It was mainly the Standells and the incredible Chocolate Watchband
