Second Career does suck.This video was upped in 2009,I was there yesterday,and its *EXACTLY* like the guy described,it happened to me,too.

The people working at MTCU aren't any help either from my experience. They'll just direct you to you the nearest YMCA employment centres who make you fill out a bunch of forms so that they can show that people are interested in their programs so that they can keep their own jobs. They also will not fund any programs that are cheap in cost. I was looking for assistance and was told the amount did not meet the minimum requirement. I guess this program wants to spend the money as fast as possible so they can quickly ask for more and call that a success when only a selected 1% get the assistance they need because they have an inside connection of some sort. I refer to it as carefully executed money laundering.

The thing is,un-fortunately,you cant even claim bankruptcy on a student loan,so,for student loans know that they got you by the short hairs,literally...I say they should dump this program- If *YOU* dont get the job,then they dont get their money....Kinda like pro-bono...

and the government fucks over the poor and low income people again...big surprise. qualifying for second career is like trying to qualify for health insurance in states they will always try and look for a way out and just like every other government or social asistance there is so much red tape and bureaucracy involved it's just insane. "we'll work with them be there for them until they find a job" yeah whatever they're not gonna do shit. This program is a FAILURE

I've finished my schooling regardless of what the government didn't do for me and have a job in the pipeline, so I'm happy.

Hmm, I got approved last week for 2nd career funding. It took them about a week from the time they rec'd my application until they called saying that I was approved. I start school next week.

No, they won't. You'd be hard pressed to find Second Career funding anything at this point because the program has run out of money. Rumours are it's going until the end of this month.

I was recently declined too! If you have little or no skills, zero education and never finished high school and had a labour type job like pumping gas or shining shoes then this program is for you!. The gov just changed the guidlines so they can eliminate most applicants and still look good because they have a "economic recovery plan" You must look dumb, and pretty much homeless to get a penny! My advice, don't even waste your time!

I was declined too. I've worked in Call Centers since I came to Canada. I have an UNIVERSITY DEGREE revalidated by WES. I have bad hearing. I'm a Cancer survivor. I NEEDED to change careers. MTCU tells me that PHONES is a growing company and that I should stay there. QUESTION: What is the purpose od SC then? Isn't to change a career field that would give you a change to have a better life? WHY they want to leave me in the same hole? I have lost FAITH in this Program.

While $1,000,000,000 was lost in the eHealth scandal, thousands of hard working Ontarians exhausted all of their resources while waiting for a response from the MTCU only to discover the lately hurdle. Our two Liberal shysters Milloy & McGuinty have put the Ontario College system in shambles.

Ontario tuition is the second highest in the Country and government funding is second last in North America next to Alabama. Looming over us is another strike which will ensure the applicants who have actually been approved, will not start and will not receive funding while on strike. I can only wait until the next election to watch these Liberal scum bags marched out of Ottawa and forced to look for their Second Career.

Second Career is a PROVINCIAL program and has nothing to do with the federal government other than how the federal Conservative government (who are in power) have cut transfer payments to Ontario in favour of places like Alberta. The Ontario House is based in Toronto.

I actually got the 16 points required by the new system, but there has been changes to the amount that can be payed out as well. The total monthly allowed? $800.00 ...

So, I have to eat, pay rent, insurance, gas, feed my family back home and do well in my courses on that.

No problem.

@loopdokter turns out I did get the 16 points after all, so I'm holding off on contacting any local media for the time being. I have no idea when I'm supposed to find out whether or not I'm approved. My EI just ran out and now I'm kind of panicking because how exactly do I get back home if they say no? I gave up my apartment 9 months ago and I don't want to live here in London unless it's because I'm in school. I'm pretty much in enhanced panic and depression mode right now.

Sorry I just logged into YouTube to discover your issues. I just got off the phone with a reporter from the K-W Record newspaper. They're running a feature on this in (likely) tomorrow's paper.

I also spoke with Elizabeth Witmer, my local MPP and she's been very helpful. I suggest going down to your local MPP's office and handing them your case. It's their job to physically look into this issue for you to see if there are discrepancies to see how you were judged.

Got a call from my councilor yesterday telling me I don't have 16 points so I'm not eligible unless I can submit a new pile of paperwork on Tuesday to up my score. Not sure if it's possible. Looks like I'm screwed retroactively. EI runs out this month, I've already moved from my home (Toronto) to London where the welding school is. Looks like I'm going to be stranded, broke, and unemployed. Thanks Dalton.

Apparently the MTCU had instructed the career centre not to send in applications for start dates beyond September. My start date was November 23. October 13th I went for (another) final approval and my application was finally sent in. Missed the start date for school, wrote to my MPP - no help - finally got word that my application was being sent back to the career centre for "reassessment".

I'm in the exact same position right now. I called to set up my appointment in March after losing my job in January. Couldn't get in for my first appointment until June 6, filled out all the forms, job search, field research, school research, jumped through the hoops, finished the obstacle course, only to be told that all the forms had changed. Did it again, got them all in June 29. Supposed to hear from the MTCU October 15, but eventually learned that my application was never sent in at all.
