chris! do you know about any way to connect a xbox classic that uses the yellow, red and white cable to a PC Monitor? a cheap converter from that to hdmi, or to vga or dvi?
component rarely refers to the RGB separation he talks about. 90% of component video today is done using YPbPr (1 luma 2 chroma). please research more before making inaccurate videos
I think the only realistic way to see a difference between component and hdmi is watching a blu ray movie through a 2560x1440 monitor like the dell u2711 for example which has both hdmi and component in's. ive tried cheap hdmi cables versus component AND 80.00 hdmi hardcore ( supposedly) cables versus component on my mother's 47" lg 120hz tv. ABSOLUTELY NO difference in dvd nor blu movies ( test dvds on a dvd player and blu rays on bluray player ftr) Hence the hardcore dell monitor ideal next.
Wrong when i pull out the green i loose all colour when i pull out the other 2 with oneleft in i get colour buy aall messed up its not take green out no green
I'm surprised I don't see more people refer to composite as "composhit". I remember when that's all I used to have for my nes and there would be many pixels blurred out or given some unwanted rainbow effect that I wasn't too impressed with. Later TV's in the 90's really made dot crawl the rule of the day and I just about couldn't handle any of it until we finally got tubes with S-video, but that's still a crap signal anyway, just a bit clearer.
@redicrydes Actually, component can push out 1080p but most devices will not allow that to happen because component doesn't have the HDCP standards so they limit it to 1080i. But technically speaking it is capable of pushing out 1080p.
@gilosborne15 Majority of the time if you are using component for video you are probably going to use two (red/white) composite cables to send the audio. This also goes for DVI as well. Of course you could also use (if your tv/player supports it) a digital optical cable or 3.5mm stereo cable to push out audio.
I'm beginning to realize more and more that YouTube comment boxes are very pointless if you want to read any relevant info to the video you're watching.
I didnt notice a big difference between the signal quality when I swapped component to HDMI on my 360 (32" tv), but removing the mess of pins from the TV was certainly a bonus and freed up the slot for any device I pick up in future that is limited to component only.
@lockergnome Can you do a component vs. HDMI video? Can component output native 1080p or is it like an upscale? Can you also discuss the different "versions" or HDMI (like that 1.3 or whatever it is)? Also, do you have any knowledge of any new upcoming cables that are better/newer than HDMI?
@itouchhacker241 - The inventor of the technology was married to someone that insisted that everything in the house be yellow. This was their way of getting back at them.
@lockergnome Hmm, the only place i use composite is... the connection from my cable box to my tv, its on the bottom of my list of things that need a "high res" cable.

If you unplug the green component cable, you won't get video regardless of if the other two are plugged in or not.

I use my composite cables for component all the time. It seems like component cables are always way more expensive.

if components 3 cables send video what sends audio?

@treyatl2006 oh ok then. so you wouldn't use just component, you would have 5 cables connected all together if you were to use it.

robnaj 7 months ago
@robnaj The Red and White cables are usually next to each other on both component and composite sets. They're the channels of audio; left and right.

Component is red, blue and the difference between the two + sync... its not actually green. This is why you loose picture if you unplug it.

@lockergnome I've had people comparing results hdmi-component saying they like the analogue red colors better than HDMI. interesting stuff
hassanfakiri 7 months ago
@Gmango2126
HDMI has a bit less noise (as its all digital) but its nearly an unnoticeable difference.
tipoomaster 7 months ago
@Gmango2126 Identical for all intents and purposes.
phototristan 7 months ago
@Gmango2126 component gives almost 480p and HDMI can give 720p all the way to 1080p
GerArriaga 7 months ago
@GerArriaga
No, composite gives up to 480i & component can go up to 1080p.
HDMI can go up to & beyond 1080p.
