  • It will be great to see how this may develop into either a commercial or open source product. Keep up the research!

  • For your information, the signs you signed for "Hello" and "Sorry" are not correct. Make sure you ask a Deaf person whos an expert in American Sign Language if you needed some consultation!

  • @mrjoeybaer Well, since those guys are french, maybe they are using French Sign Language ? Sign languages have lots of variations around the world, or even within a single country.

  • Amazing, keep up the good work guys!

  • Are you planning on open sourcing the code for this project? This could be VERY useful for so many applications, obviously :)

  • A team of students from Jordan created a more developed version of this software 2 months ago in Microsoft Imagine Cup Jordan!

  • Can you give a link to your project website?

  • Google Motion becomes real...

  • Ubuntu n'a pas reconnu votre carte graphique ? :)

  • Cool!!

  • The neural network is the software component that recognize the sign from the data produced by the kinect (positions of the body parts).

For simples moves , like a punch or a kick, it easy to recognize : high vélocity of the hand or the foot.

But for more complex moves (like the ones in this video), the problem is mathematicaly harder...

Neural network is a way to bypass the problem,. It builds a mathematical model of the moves using move samples.

  • what exactly is a neural network and how does it help? There are plenty of gesture recognition without this?

  • This is awesome. I am curious about the inner workings of your neural network. What sort of topology did you use and what did you use for your inputs? Did you use only the joint positions or did you somehow incorporate velocity as well? I am thinking about trying something similar but I have minimal experience with NN.
