  • AB is such a player.

  • notice when the guy closes the computer, the screen doesn't tilt with it, but just gets covered up by something. :D

  • 3:25

Sounds like a vote for being vegetarian? :D

  • i eat them just by boiling them in hot water .

& just sprinkle salt on it (: .

  • Oh man...I gotta find dry roasted edemame so that I can make that brittle! And I might try making that dip for the holidays, too. :)

  • Is that a plastic cafeteria tray holding ingredients?

    AB is amazing :)

  • Actually there's two plants (well parts of two) with all EAA. Soybeans/Hemp Seeds, hemp seeds are way better for you though.

  • 8:11 = crazy alton lol

  • -.- straight from the pod is da best >.>

  • it sounds like he says ioleucine, but its really isoleucine

  • OR, "I owe leucine"

    BA DUMP DUMP CHRRR

  • No! Phenylalanine's one-letter abbreviation is F! P is proline!

This is the first time Alton''s scientific information has not been to my satisfaction. I think I'll let him go, because he's such an all-around badass.

  • @sandn8r9 He was just probably using the first letter, not it's abbreviation. But yeah I see where that could bug you a little :p. Haha.

  • @sandn8r9 He might have been afraid that people would think phenylalanine was spelled with an F.

  • internet fighting is like the special olympics even when you win your still retarded

    everything gives you cancer

  • edamame dip looks soooooo good! :E

  • I love dry roasting my own, tastes and smells way better than pre-packed crap. Just soak the edamame, at least overnight (I sometimes add dried garlic, or red pepper flakes to the water), drain em, put em on a cookie sheet, and put in a 350 degree oven, check every 10 minutes, stirring each time you check, they should be done between an hour to an hour and a half. Its worth it!

  • And an added benefit is that doing it by yourself is often cheaper than buying prepacked snacks. Of course never having seen prepacked roasted edemame in the first place, i may be wrong.

  • Edamame is great... But ALTON!!! It isn't the only plant food with a complete protein! Try Quinoa.... But that's another show, right?

  • lol

  • "now get a whiff of this. oh sorry"

they really should make smell-o-vision. well at least for food network

  • He looks like Captain Sig on Deadliest Catch.

  • ITS AN APPLE!

  • He needs to keep his hair shorter... This new look.. Just isn't working. Otherwise a rather good episode. I know I am going to try the recipes. Most of all the brittle.

  • its his hair. if you think he looks bad, he might think he looks fine. if you don't like it, than stop watching, or just listen to him.

  • okay i know i am being kind of obsessive, but the proper pronunciation is not Edama-mee, it is Edama-may. in Japanese the e is pronounced with an "ay" sound. and that ends my little rant...

  • Alton Brown looks more like Alton John with these glasses

  • hey im under 21 so i cant get any form of wine, so anybody got any suggestions which acid i can use ( like lemons or oranges ?)

  • deathgod623: Depending on the state and store you may be able to purchase de-alcoholized wine (wine with the alcohol removed). Some compounds are only alcohol-soluble, so it may or may not work. But it's likely worth a short if all that's needed is the acid from the fruit.

  • oh ok ill try looking for that. thnks for the idea

  • You should be able to find wine vinegars in the grocery store, which is I think what he used for the salad at the first part of this section (I was never carded for getting vinegar). If you still can't get wine vinegars, then I'd say go with a standard white vinegar, or lemon juice.

  • Yes, but remember, you shouldn't cook with any alcohol you wouldn't normally drink. We got hit with that in Year 1 Culinary Basic at my college.

  • frankly if you are making a sauce it doesnt matter. All the alcohol is there for is to pull alcohol soluable flavours out of the food. Its as simple as that. The fruitiness doesnt matter. Just watch some of ABs tomatoe episodes.

  • You're wrong in my opinion. There are alot of things that you could use any alcohol with, but sauces is NOT one of them.

  • the reason you would need to have a good wine for is if the sauce is going to be used in a stand alone sauce but if the reason you are using the wine for is to pull the flavours from tomatoes or similar alchol soulable flavours then why waste money on a good wine. But you have to watch some videos of AB to understand the reasoning. I do belive it was his canned tomatoe pantry raid episode.

  • Ah ok. My mistake. I thought you were talking about a made-in-the-pan sauce. I have watched alot if not most of his videos, but I have not heard of his canned tomatoe pantry raid episode. ill have to go watch it :)

  • I found the episode. Its the Musell show from season 3. Here is the episode transcript. "You see, I don't think it's got to be great. In fact, unless I'm planning to reduce it down into a glaze or a pan sauce I never lay out more than one dead Lincoln for cooking wine. After all, what do I really want out of it? A little acidity, a little fruitiness, and just enough alcohol to extract the alcohol soluble flavors from things like the tomatoes."

  • that last recipe looks really good! edamame brittle!

  • altons hair style is wired

  • anyone else getting a msg saying this video is no longer available? grrrrr

  • that hapens sometimes with all videos

just refresh your browser, or if wireless refresh your internet or restart your p.c ( if it wont come up no matter whaat you do ) it might also be which browser you use, firefox is ( to my knoledge ) better than internet explorer ( though i prefer IE) so you may wanna try the vid on firfox. also make sure your flash plater is up to date .

  • Thanks, I'm not sure why it wasn't loading...part 1 was fine and any other vid I tried to view was OK as well...anyway, it's working now, so...no worries. Thanks for the info though, I use firefox and everything is up to date, must have just needed to refresh or something.

  • but what about the health risks of soybean??? what about the decreased testosterone levels (. Nutr. 135 (3): 58491. PMID 15735098), the possibility of lowering a man's sperm count (Human Reproduction, pp.17. July 23, 2008.) or what about pancreatic cancer (Toxicol. Sci. 55 (1): 529. PMID 10788559) ... the information in the brackets are references to science journals

  • **the information in the brackets are references to science journals if some people think that im just making things up

  • Actually the risks of soybeans and cancer applies only to people whose health was already compromised, and the honest truth is that the chemical in soybeans which is potentially harmful (An artificial estrogen) is in a low enough concentration that the risk is minimum.

As for the decreased sperm count, it actually isn't that big of a deal. The sperm count is the ONLY thing that the soybeans affect, and unless you eat nothing but soybeans straight up daily, it won't have a long term effect.

  • Couldent you technically eat soybeans to lower your sperm count and have a lower possibility of getting someone pregnant?

  • I would not rely on that one, but it does go far in explaining lower birthrates in certain locations.

  • Holy Frijoles, that's one hungry crew!

  • Yay! when's the cracker episode going to be up?
